Fabregas never said in public that he wanted to leave but he was probably aware Barcelona were going to make an offer for him and so said he wants his future sorted. That probably means he wants to know where he's playing next year, not that he wanted to push a deal through in the next week. I still for some reason believe he'll be at Arsenal next season, especially after Barcelona today saying they won't be paying £50m for him. It's not worth it to Arsenal to sell him for less, they don't need any money, I'm not convinced Fabregas definitely wants out either. He knows Barcelona will sign him any summer over the next 10 years.

another angle; if fabregas really has said he doesnt want to be at arsenal, whats the point in playing a want-away-player? why not just get the money you can now and replace him. Seems petty to me, although we will never know the complete inn's and outs of whats been said

Well from what i know of Wenger and past dealings is that IF Fabregas said to him...look i dont want to be here next season then im pretty sure Wenger wouldnt stand in his way and let him go. On the other hand, hes integral to our team so its only logical that we get as much money as we can for him....hes not a bit part player, Wenger knows how important he is to Arsenal so i dont blame Arsenal for holding out for more money.

Fabregas was quoted as saying that the conversation he had with Wenger over his future was the best conversation of his life. :p

Can't remember where I read the quote, I'll have to dig for it although I'm sure it can be found with a bit of Googling. I have said this so many times in this thread and I'll continue to say it; Fabregas will still be an Arsenal player at the beginning of next season. Arsenal have already said he is part of our future plans, he is under contract until 2015, he is not for sale, we won't consider it, we won't counter-negotiate we won't even discuss it, end of story.

Manchester City are prepared to make Fernando Torres the world's richest footballer in an attempt to land the Liverpool striker, but he is ready to turn them down in favour of a move to Chelsea, Soccernet understands.

One of the men at the centre secret talks about a possible move has disclosed that while City are ready to outbid Chelsea, Torres is more interested in playing Champions League football next season.

"City were ready to offer Fernando Torres a huge contract, and by that I mean the biggest for any footballer anywhere in the world," the source told Soccernet. "But Torres said 'no', he was not interested."

Although no formal contract offer can be made by City as they have not agreed any fee with Liverpool, the middlemen have been working feverishly behind the scenes.

Torres has been made aware of the enormous salary being put in front of his advisors to tempt him to Eastlands, with the deal reportedly equal to the phenomenal wages Cristiano Ronaldo commands at Real Madrid - more than £200,000-a-week plus image rights and bonuses.

The source close to the deal confirmed that "negotiations" are already now underway behind the scenes involving Chelsea, who have made Torres aware of their interest, in a move that is being privately reciprocated.

The source told Soccernet: "Yes, negotiations are going on behind the scenes, and just how much Chelsea would offer in a transfer fee and wages is not something I am prepared to discuss at this point."

While managerless Liverpool are likely to hold out for £70 million for Torres, Chelsea believe a more realistic price is £50 million, so a lot of hard bargaining can be expected once Roman Abramovich authorises the first official offer for Torres.

Another source close to the Torres 'talks' is convinced that Chelsea may have already tabled a bid in the region of £45 million, well short of what Liverpool might expect, but that no response has so far been forthcoming, with Liverpool dispensing with one manager and recruiting another who might have strong views about whether Torres should be allowed to go, if he wishes to leave.

Well we won the 'Boat Race'....From what i have seen he is a good player who under Mancini can only improve and he is definitely more value for money than Smalling....

But where? Surely he wouldn't go to Real, and Barca won't be able to afford it...so that leaves no-one really. Not that can pay the amount it would require.

Yeah doubt he'd ever go to Real as you say, maybe Barca can beg their bank manager to pony up some cash. They could even dig around the back of the sofa for loose change. :p

Even though I'm an Arsenal fan I'd love to see him at Chelsea, think of him and Drogba playing alongside each other!

Broughton has no power over the day to day runnings of the club (if any power at all), he's just a figure head.

Benitez leaving makes it a lot harder to keep him but ultimately everything rests on a club that he's willing to join (which probably rules out City), making us a huge offer. It's possible that Barca or Chelsea could make that offer but far from certain.

On Sky Sports this morning that Joe Cole has signed for Arsenal on 90k a week wages.

Interesting decision, by both parties!!

edit: cant see it anywere else, so maybe it was just a rumour...
