No because I am going to update the water block soon so I didn't see it being necessary. Good advice I don't want to use a razor I will probably end up chopping my hand off.

Two questions

MX-4 or Prolimatech PK-3 for the die? I have both to hand.
Suggestions for a good set of 2 x 4 GB or 2 x 8 GB ram sets that are 2400Mhz XMP. Looking for the best for Pi calculations obviously :P

2400 C9 is easy with Sammy Green and Maximus V extreme. Save yourself some cash and use my guide to OC them to atleast 2400 for Pi.

Aright everyone seems to think sammy greens so I think I'll buy a set of 4 x 4 GB ( I guess just using 2 x Dimms for SuperPi is best, less stress on memory controller? ) and then use the money I save to invest in some very nice heatspreaders :-) Corsair do seem; way overpriced considering I can do the job easy myself.

***using the MV Formula, not the extreme though***

Yeah they used to be 50, got mine for 37 on an offer. :D

Memory has went through the roof recently. I think I just got 2200 9-10-10-21-96-1T v1.65, testing now :)

edit// no real gain over 2226 9-11-11-21-88-1T v1.6. Rather run 2226 anyway.

Remember buying a 750Gb Caviar Black for £45 and them being £100+ a few weeks later because of floods in thailand and I was going to buy two for raid!

Yeah but they don't get hot at all,id save your money on the spreaders, some folks put 1.7v+ through them without issue

Knocked a couple of seconds off, sub 6m 30s still eludes me :(

Need to start upping PLL voltage no more than 1.89v. If you are daring you could go for more core voltage, sometimes you have to set the voltage monitor to ignore cpu voltage else it will error on boot.

This is a single threaded application, it's because IvyBridge can run about 10-15% more instructions per clock.

edit// updated table.

Why did you think Intel used cheap paste instead of solder on ivy,to keep performance lower than the high end x79

ivy e,will improve x79 though

smart f%$^s,

and in doing so ruined a perfectly good chip. Can't wait to delid as soon as I get my paycheque there is 100 bigg ones going on an EK Elite Supremacy and Naked Ivy Bridge Kit. Hopefully this will give me much more headroom for more overclocking, I just hope the temperature doesn't increase with the weather.
