Re Unifi gateway products, with the recent updates pretty decent now or still lacking against pfsense/untangle/sophos xg?
Depends on the use case, they are very good but I don't think you'll ever get feature parity with a proper enterprise product like you mention.

I used to use OPNsense and Untangle, they are both extremely powerful, however I prefer the simplicity of UniFi and it does what I need it to do (Dual WAN, policy based routing, S2S VPN, Wireguard VPN server etc).

Certainly get the simplicity factor. Just mulling UDM SE offering. Out of stock atm anyway.

I have the SE, and I'm very happy with it. 3.1.8 is a solid release, don't go to 3.1.9 if you do get one as a few people are reporting random issues which as usual the UI staff seem to be turning a blind eye to.

Many thanks, just looking at the UXG pro too, it I’d need to retain my cloud key gen2 controller for networking and protect.

Don’t get me wrong I certainly like pfsense/untangle/sophos etc.

VPN wise, site to site with IPsec and openvpn/ssl (previously with AD auth). AD server running with AAD connector

Speaking of updates, I usually see warning to let them settle or just avoid but worth doing any of these? It's been a while.

Edit - UDM and one AP.

Just do what I do these days, click update all and pray :D
This!

And make sure you have a local backup if you are using their Cloud Backups. As they don't give you an option of which backup to restore to. The only real way to downgrade is to factory reset, flash an older firmware, and use an older backup.

3.1.11 EA was released a few hours ago, not sure I'm brave enough to update as I've managed to get 3.1.9 running without issue. I think I'll wait for the next official release.

Had to roll back an update on my Wifi 6-LR last week, the update seemed to break connectivity on mobile devices. Unifi pulled the update in the end as no end of people were having trouble. It is the first issue I've had after an update, but it's far from ideal.

How does the content filtering options and such on the device compare with Untangle / Sophos XG etc? I've been running pfsense recently, but family member got phished last night :( - pfsense isn't one for web filtering etc. I was starting to look at more of the end device filtering options.

Changed the spam policies in Exchange Online further now so nothing goes to junk, it's all quarantined.

Their implementation is really basic, you just get an option for work or family on a VLAN (they call it network), I've never tested it. It's no where near as granular as Untangle.

Have they made any sounds about improving/expanding it?
