I may be reading something into this that isn’t there and I mean no malice by saying this, but that’s not normal.

I also usually have the tab open during the day to check for deliveries. The mrs also likes to the have the cameras showing.

lol, maybe not. But it's very handy to be able to see if delivery people are approaching and if there's anything going outside from the comfort of my chair in full completeness of a multi cam security system rather than peeking out a single window.

If I hear a noise or something seems odd I don't have to go outside, I can get an immediate overview of the property in literally 2 seconds to see if there's any intruders, or if it's just the usual foxes or just something weird going on in the street.

There's been a big uptick in crime and break-ins where I live, so it provides huge peace of mind having a live feed (plus the ability to jump back in time quickly if I miss something). We've also had the police in our garden multiple times over the years looking for burglars jumping the fences from other properties (this was prior to getting the cams)

I was also able to catch DPD tossing my packages with immense force onto the ground from the back of their van a few days ago too, wouldn't have see it before they rang the bell if I didn't have the cameras open in a separate window. Half the packages were badly damaged and I could bring it up with the guy immediately instead of jumping through hoops on a telephone system after the fact.

It's got a lot of benefits, hence why I'd find it hard to go back to not having it now.

I have my UniFi cameras in my Apple Home app and have them on most day, it's handy for delivery drivers, we have a camera in the nursery, and I'm a nosey git.

I also have my outdoor cameras streaming to my tablet during the day most days. as others have said, check for deliveries etc.

In fact, my previous Yi camera managed to catch the delivery driver dropping my UDM Pro SE being delivered.

Fortunately it wasn't damaged, still worked and still works to this day (video is from last year)

I've got a USG which seems to of failed early today.

No lights/internet connection except a blinking green light next to the console port.

A few videos show a psu problem but I have a green light on the brick .. I've changed the plug to the brick but no fix.

If this is a PSU issue does anyone have a link to a replacement please?
if it helps, this is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0055PKHU8. Mods I hope that’s ok as Ocuk don’t sell Unifi or adapters, but let me know if not and I’ll take it down.

Nice, I'd be interested to see the viewing angles of both, and the performance at night. I want to point them at my rear fence and cover the side garage door, there is no light at night so IR is very important, and I'd prefer not to have to buy a separate IR flooder, although at a push this is definitely possible. The dome would only really be installable at ~10 metres on a soffit, whereas the bullet obviously has a few more options and I've actually got a perfect spot for it with an existing cable run (its an aerial but I can utilise the same route).

I’ll post some day/night pictures later with some approximate measurements.

My recommendation would be the bullet camera mounted on the wall just out of arms reach from the floor. If the distances is short the the wider angle dome camera may be better but I’d use the wall mount for it. When mounted on an upper floor soffit, it’s just going to be looking down on the tops of peoples heads.
@platypus

Dome mounted on the soffit of the garage so its pretty low - I can reach up and touch it with my hand. There is a street lamp at the end of the drive and the light source to the right is another camera but it doesn't really change what this image looks like.

This is the bullet, the light sources you can see are solar fairly lights and basically give off zero light in reality. You can see them but that is it.

The bullet does a better job covering bigger open areas, I have another dome covering a smaller area and the wide field of view comes into its own. On domes the IR shoots through the clear cap which creates a little glare - you don't get that on the bullet.

I’m in the process of sorting internet in my new house and while I have floors up doing some different jobs I’m going to run some network cables and then look to install some decent access points so we have good wifi throughout the house. The house is a reasonably large Victorian semi with accommodation spread over three floors my initial plan is to put a good quality access point on the middle floor and see how much of the house gets good coverage before adding any more for the first and third floors. I’m not a power user and I’m not going to tweak things to the nth degree in pursuit of maximum speed I just want something that works and can be easily expanded if necessary. Internet is used for home working streaming for a family of four and web browsing so which Ubiquity device would you recommend?

So, I have 3 unifi switches. 2 us-8-150W and 1 us-8-60W; they are Office[150W] > Loft[60W] > Garage[150W]. I don't think the spec makes any difference but just pointing out that they are different in case.

I finally got round to aggregating links between all the switches - for resiliency more than speed. They're all running at 2Gbps now, no problemo. However... what is listed on the ports keeps changing, and the topology bears no resemblence to the physical layout and keeps changing.

Everythings working but I've no idea whats going on. Anyone got any ideas/thoughts?

The problem with this plan is that you're not going to get signal radiating upwards from a downwards facing AP. Therefore, placing the sole AP on the middle floor won't work. It'll need to be placed on the upper floor, then see whether the required signal radiates far enough down to the ground floor. If not, a second AP would then be required on the ground floor, or possibly the middle floor depending on floor/wall thickness

You're not the only one that the topology diagram doesn't work for

As long as you are away that a single client to server stream won't go above 1 Gbps.
Yeah thats fine - I haven't really aggregated the links because I'm dead keen on 2Gbps, at some point when the finance committee sanctions it I'll move to 10GbE switches. It's all cabled in with Cat6a.

I'd run/aggregated the links primarily for redundancy.

That's refreshing to hear, most people use port aggregation because ZOMG it gives me 2/3/4/whatever Gbps on every device, as if by magic.

Fair point! The third floor isn’t going to be occupied properly for a while so i will definitely add a second AP on the top floor my office will be up there so there will be a cable or two run anyway.

What would be the simplest access point to start off with?

Sooooo I plugged in my new g5 bullet and it took my cloudkey down :D :(.

I wonder if that means my poe switch in the loft is on the fritz.

E: Does anyone know how to enable smart detections for the g5? I've got an message saying "To enable Smart Detection, please contact console owner to agree with the terms and conditions" but I'm logged in as the admin/owner.. and there doesn't appear to be anywhere to view and/or accept them.. not having much luck from the internet either.

FML I'm not the owner... its an account I used ages ago to set it up and I can't find anyway to transfer the ownership. I found this https://community.ui.com/questions/...ct-Owner/4cad1cef-e06e-4268-9cd3-81cb5dc53b1a but it doesn't work... Lots of complaints on the UI forums about not being able to transfer ownership.

Eugh there is no way I want to do a factory reset just to enable smart detections >.<. "When unifi goes wrong"

Eyeing up a UDM SE as my UDR upgrade. I need more ports and my wife would like a CCTV system but we do not want a subscription or cloud-based system.

However Unifi cameras are very expensive, well the GX Pros are. Do you have to use Unifi cameras with Unifi Protect? And if not, are there a range/brand people recommend that work well with Unifi?

You do not. There are options to get non brand cameras on, but in my opinion unless you want to spend lots of time tinkering with your cctv system it might be better not to. Still... it's doable.

The Unifi cameras are... well they're ok. I've got two g3 bullets, 2 flex and just installed a g5. To be honest I'm not that impressed with the picture quality on the newer g5. I want to try one of the Unifi 4k cameras but just cannot justify the cost at home; I think when we upgrade the cctv at our business we'll go down that route.

You'll need to upgrade the hard drive in the SE for a cctv system, no idea why they included something so small but other than that, Protect is good. It was naff when it first came out and replaced their older product but they have worked on it and its reliable and easy to use, which is essentially all you need.
