Dangerous combination of upgrade itch and Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket!

I currently have 2 x AC-LR's and wonder if it's worth upgrading them to the U6+. Everything runs fine so I know I shouldn't even be asking this question but the itch!!

Wi-Fi 5, brb just checking the year we are in.

There is zero chance I'd deploy something with a plastic mount outdoors, it's only a matter of time before it fails and the thing drops off. And are we *really* supposed to believe that people get themselves into a situation where they need to carry APs around on their van but don't know the situation they're about to encounter so need something that can be ceiling mounted indoors or pole mounted outside? Surely if you plan things with a slight degree of competence you're never encountering the situation this product is designed for.
100% this.

“The use case for this is having it in your bag when you might need to deploy a quick access point”

How many prosumers (which I think is Ubiquiti main customers) are doing that?

So I’d have to have a bag with a PoE switch, a UniFi 4G Router and one of these would just complete the set? I just don’t see how it’s any different to a UAP-AC-Mesh. Obviously it’s more expensive but apart from that?

Pretty disappointing product on the whole.

Ok, will have a look at getting another U6-Mesh and placing it on top of a shelf unit. Trying to clear some kitchen appliances that are blocking signal until I can get a cable run into the back of the kitchen

Would be nice but they really need to get their act together on day 1 and ensure it has feature parity with Synology/UnRaid etc. And not be gimped by 1 GbE ports.

I agree.

I can't wait to move away from this Synology (DS1621XS+) as I had another issue with it the other day where it randomly dropped an M.2 drive (WD Red), it was fixed by powering it down and taking the M.2 out and putting it back in. However, on the software side, Synology does have it nailed down. I need to find a good supplier for Kioxia drives now and then I am moving.

Is it worth going for the Unifi 8 Port (4 x POE+ Port) switch to power a U6 Pro, U6 Mesh and U6 Lite or am I as well going with TP Link/Tenda/Random Other equivalent?

I assume you mean the USW-Lite-8-POE?

If so that's a good little switch and should power most of the UniFi PoE devices.

I didn't think it was that expensive, as it's around ~£100 from them directly. I've noticed elsewhere it starts to creep up in price

It really depends. If it’s part of the Enterprise line it will be 10GbE, Pro will be 2.5GbE, Pro Max and the ports will light up and if it’s Ultra it’ll be USB 2.0 but think of the all devices you can use it with!

That’s surprising. It took them the best part of a year to get a WiFi 6 access point out after the standard had been ratified let alone releasing one before the standard is ratified.
