*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

Ubiqiuiti are never going to do a proper L3 product, if they were capable of it then it would have happened. Instead you get stuff marketed as being for a datacentre that can't do MCLAG or EVPN.

I think you might (and that’s a big might) see a change now Chris Buechler is gone. With someone else leading the Routing and Switching division, they might do better. Or not.

Has anyone tried out a U7 Pro yet?

Yes, and it’s fine, so long as you appreciate that WiFi7 may be hived off for 5G use and it’s not yet a ratified standard in the UK. It’s on very early firmware so there are some issues reported but in general it’s a decent access point.

Do they share the same mounting bracket as the UAP-AC-Pro?

Sort of. They use the Professional bracket which also fits the UAP-AC-Pro so if you have the professional bracket already, you’re golden, otherwise you will need to get the drill out I’m afraid.

Thanks I think that settles it and I'll stay with what works fine now.

That’s very useful to know. I’ve always assumed it could only map out UniFi components but if it’s doing it on LLDP it would seem sensible that it could map most managed switches.

I am completely smitten with the new Pro Max switches though. They do it all. 2.5GbE on some ports? Yes. Poe++ on some ports? Yes. 10GbE SFP+ uplinks? Yes. It would be nice if they were 100% 2.5GbE PoE++ but in reality you would be really unlikely to need more than is in the switches as they stand. Hopefully the Enterprise Max switches will be along soon to make me even happier with 10GbE PoE goodness. And the whole lighting up like a Christmas tree is pretty awesome as well.
I've got my eyes on a Pro Max 24, I think the POE would be a waste of money for at most a couple of APs, any cameras can be powered by the Dream Machine. Bit they tick all the boxes for me.

Still only 300-350 WiFi but that's plenty for what I need it for
Did you check the channel width on 5ghz?

It’s probably defaulted to 40, turn it up to 80. You could try 160 but you may encounter issues. 2.4 is pretty crowded around my way so I’ve left that on 20.

In the app, select the access point, click settings, radios, channel width.

sorry forgot to reply re that, tied 80 and 160, speed was still the same

/edit tried it again and seems to have made a difference now

I wonder if it did an automatic software update? I believe they ship with automatic updates enabled.
The setup process gives the option of switching it off now.
I just had the pleasure of setting up a UDM pro. Not fun and really questioning my purchase.
Attempt 1 - couldn't find my internet
Attempt 2 - wouldn't let me sign in to UI
Attempt 3 - decided to make a local account, failed.
Attempt 4 - decided to piggy back off my ERX and all ok.

Are you on PPPoE? The old USGs used to need time to negotiate a PPPoE connection. Enter the username and password and leave it overnight. It’ll probably be fine in the morning.

I swapped out my U6-Lite for the U7 Pro. It sits at the point of ingress, near my front door of a 4 bedroom house.
At the opposing corner, one floor up, I used to get around 30Mbps. I now get 250-300Mbps on the 5Ghz band. The extra range you get from it is simply beastly!
The speed itself wasn't the big deal though, the better signal is as I now have zero dropouts there as well.
Important when playing a live service game on my Steam deck in bed :)

This might be important to some as the Linksys Velop I got from Toob gave a better signal than the U6-Lite but the router as a whole had issues when I downloaded 100gig+ databases for work.
Swapped back to my 3 port USG and download issues are gone, but the wifi was worse so the U7 pro makes perfect sense.

Plus, I missed the Unifi controller as it gives so much more detail and control that the Linksys did.

The 6Ghz band and upcoming MLO are nice to haves at this point.

I’m sure there’s an option in the setup process to enter PPPoE details. Mine worked straight away.

I have no idea what was going on. I think perhaps it's my setup as I've got multiple ports doing different things on the modem so likely my own fault as I couldn't remember which one was which, it's been that long.
