Sheesh. What's the plan for that then, for home? :p
Replace the UDM SE as that's a bit of an eye-sore bolted to the wall next to the ONTs. Granted, I could always put the SE in the rack but I like keeping it separate.

I'll keep the SE as a spare.

According to what? I have an SE, never had an issue with it connecting to the internet.
Just saying they couldn't get it to connect to the internet without first setting it up via the Smart Hub first then connecting directly to the ONT.

My plan for now is to get a Dream Machine SE and U6 Pro up and running. Then later add a Pro Max 24 and the doorbell and one or two G5 Pro cameras.
The U6 Mesh looks ideal if I need a stronger signal downstairs but I wonder if they will do a U7 Mesh.

Yes, U7 mesh and U7 in-wall will be along shortly.

The only issue I find with upgrading to the U7 line is at the moment they don't have Bluetooth in them so things like the UP-Sense won't work

So some friends have gifted me a few Ubiquiti APs over the years and USG. The APs are used, but never really implemented the USG as it isn't suited for the broadband speeds we're getting now.
This is all a bit of fun and learning experience so I don't want to spend the world on Ubiquiti, but I'm looking for an alternative to the USG that can also be a controller (if it can support PoE so I don't have to keep the injectors hanging off my swich so much the better, but budget is key).

I looked at the Gateway Express, but my friend told me it's cut down functionality and it's not worth it.
So what do you lovely people suggest? I really am not a fan of the pringle can style, but I convinced myself on the £200 for the Dream Router as it seemed to do everything I needed, but then find it's sold out on their site and is almost double everywhere else I can find. (What's with all this, it seems like Ubquiti are setting us up to get scalped - what have I missed other than being late to the ball?)

Can anyone make any suggestions or will the Dream Router be back in stock sometime soon?

Wonder why they don't publish the Unifi Express throughput on main spec page but its in the FAQ, apparently it will do 1gb even with various features enabled which is good.

Shame they don't do a 5gb interfaced version, would have been much better in todays market.

Odd comment, UDMP will only route around 3.5Gbps so not sure why you'd expect the express, the cheapest device to anything more than 1Gbps? UDMP only 1Gbps RJ45 ports, with 10Gbps SFP ports.

We all want the moon on a stick if we can :D. I'd take it if it existed - well and it was available....

Cut down how? What does your friend recommend?
I'm am not au fait with Ubiquiti which is why I'm asking here, but apparently the interface is a cut down version of the main one supported by the other Ubiquiti controllers and Gateways. I think he said something about lacking the depth of monitoring and reporting? I've not played enough with any of this to know or know if I'd need it?

I don't think it's lacking anything apart from the fact it 'only' has a 1 GbE port, but then you're not going to get 2.5 GbE or higher at its price point.

I like the sound of your reply. I just checked with him and he said it's the lack of IDS/IPS. Do you know if he is correct and if so what the Express has?

It'll do over 900 Mbps with IPS/IDS enabled, perhaps your friend is ill informed or mistaken.

Not that you need IPS/IDS at home.
