*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

If they are cheap, it’s worth considering but given they are essentially 2 generations old at this point, they’d need to be cheap.

Edit: for context, both my WiFi 5 access points are knocking on 5 years old.

Although I am not in any rush to upgrade my current Ubiquiti APs I keep a watch on the new specs and note the U7-Pro has a fan in it.

As we move to ever faster AP speeds and especially ones design for higher density use this isn't a surprise, but something I would be wary of in a domestic environment in case it kicks in too readily. I upgraded one of my UAP-AC-Pros to a U6-Pro last year so may do the same for the next older model I update given the U7-Pro fan.

I too noticed the introduction of a fan. I do wonder just how high-pitched the whine would be, there isn’t room for anything large, so the potential for that annoying range of fan noise is high.

Still rocking a mix of NanoHD and AC-PRO here, and in no massive rush to upgrade.

I see some pictures of the UniFi NAS have dropped :D

Along with a new switch (16 Port - Pro Max) and G5 Turret Ultra

I've been toying with the idea of swapping my Hikvision CCTV setup for Ubiquiti protect but I'm hearing the camera quality isn't as good.
Isn't as good how? They don't do colour vue or whatever it's called however I find the IQ absolutely fine.

Well, I have procrastinated for ages about upgrading my ancient asus router, couldn't decide between Synology, Microtik or Ubiquiti....finally pulled the trigger on a Unifi Express.

Why? Presumably your existing system works as intended?

The IQ on protect is fine but the camera range is somewhat limited and they only do what I’d call ‘standard’ day/night IR cameras. Hik have a much broader range of products some of which offer full colour night vision If you have the ambient light to support it.

Spending a ton of money on CCTV isn’t worth it once you get a system that has a good base level of quality which I’d presume your Hik system does.

It's the NVR Pro chassis, and from leaked documentation it's also the same CPU.

7 bays, no m2/NVMe, no dual 10 GbE option, no expandable RAM, no PCI slot. That's a no from me then.

It sounds very much like it’s going to be just a basic NAS which for an ‘enthusiast’ is very limiting.

A NAS for the likes of you and I is a much broader machine and the right software support is arguably more important than the hardware it runs on.

I’d suggest this product isn’t for us but it could be something which is very useful to a normie who runs a small business, particularly if it allows you to run 2 at different locations as an offsite back up.

This is true, Initially I had thought about it as a future upgrade if/when the system starts to fail.
I then thought about changing out to reduce boxes and electrical items in the rack. I'm pretty happy with how it stands currently.

Then I’d leave it as it is, but a 4090 instead if you must burn the cash :p

I’m glad I made the change.

An Express, UK-Ultra and flex mini (awaiting the addition of a Switch 8 Lite for POE goodness) plus running Ethernet though my house has meant my three storey gets good signal throughout now.

Yeah I'm going to see how I go with the express initially, probably extend with another one, and perhaps upgrade to a PoE setup over time.

Decided to order and go with CG Ultra + UC7 Pro as a first dabble into Ubiquiti world.
Was tempted to go UDM-SE but its not wise to dump big money at this early stage.
