I have a question about best practices with how I want to control my son in laws devices. He has his usual distractions like his ipad, phone and switch. He needs to focus more on his studies and not jump straight to his ipad.
I've created a secondary ssid (hidden) for his devices to connect to and if we (my wife and I) feel we need him to work on his studies we switch off this SSID. However when doing so on the Unifi control access, it somehow momentarilary kills off the main WIFI off in the whole house. I really need a way to have quick access to switch on and off, without geting into all his devices on the Unifi console. Suggestions?
Just tried it an it does the same for me. Is that a typo with son in law ? Does he know you are blocking his internet access ? I would expect him to tether any devices to his phone when required so may not be worth a lot of effort trying to block it.

Just looking at helping a guy upgrade his network. We're going to go with Unifi. Any reason why I should get the U6 Pro acecss points rather than the U7 Pro?

I'm currently running an Eero Pro mesh Wifi at home with a Cisco managed switch and a Firewalla Purple Firewall between the LAN and Virgin Cable Modem. The Eero has to go between the Cisco and the Firewalla for some reason and it doesn't support vlans or more than 2 Wifi networks (Normal and Guest).

I'm looking to replace the Eero's potentially but not the Switch or Firewall and Unifi seem's to be well thought of.

Am I right in thinking I can get a couple of their APs, un their network controller in a VM and just plug into my existing switch fabric to get up and running?

Yes they will mesh. Ethernet for each Ap is obviously preferred. They don't have a local power adaptor, you'd need to use POE injectors.
