some screens from tonight :)

Antony jokingly told everyone i was hacking in the first game, so my own team started attacking me just before we won :(

Well I am finding that the easiest way for me to unlock things for planes is to fly them in arcade and then once upgraded, move them over to historical. Stock planes really have it up against them, or so it seems for me at least, when playing historical.

Also means my progress towards the Meteor is going a little bit faster which is nice :)

Outstanding hackage there Mr Kutter :p

@Eames: new planes/flight models mostly. When you say Ground Strike, you mean tanks? If so, no news so far.

Last time I saw news on the groundforces, you could buy into the public beta with an expansion pack. If you poke about in steam you will likely find it. Unsure of price, what you get, or duration tho. And remember, whatever is in it will just end up being added to the full Free To Play game soon anyway.
Plus, I love planes and blowing the hell out of tanks, so I'm happy as is :)

I've been spending some time in the German tree lately. Wow, what a difference. The 190-A1 really sucks since it flips out below about 180mph and the 109 is just so badly armed. I'm up to the F2 atm; I went with this for the 15mm air target ammo which I heard was supposed to be amazing. It's not, frankly.

I've not tried the new FW190, but the 'older' one you unlock first is a murder weapon.

Brainchild rates the new FW190 though, so make of that what you will :p

The F1 and F2 variants of the ME109 are garbage, they have almost no ammo for their 1 pitiful cannon, and you're up against things with armour by that point so you're very lucky to get a kill with them. Persevere, or use other planes until you unlock the F4 and F4/trop. Then, get some experience on those until you can unlock the R1 modification, which gets you 2x underwing 20mm cannon pods. Then they become useful ;)

I do, and am unrepentant. Don't use them to hunt high level bombers, though. The wings are so tiny they make the thing wallow past about 3km up. (This was a real problem with the actual FW190's, and was resolved with the introduction of the TA-152. Well done, Gaijin.)

Everything he says about the 109 is accurate. Except it was called the BF109 because it was designed when the company was called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, later renamed Messerschmitt. Every original airframe bears the tag "BF" :p
Use the flaps on a 109 only at medium and high level. The thing has a wonderful "feature" of dropping the nose the second you wap the flaps open, and if you're low level then you're going to eat dirt. Tasty, tasty dirt...mmm... ;)
Don't try turn fighting in ANY German fighters. It's an excellent way to commit suicide. Boom and zoom / Being a sneaky ******* / Head2Head / "Ramming speed, Mr.Sulu" are the only ways you will get kills.

I'll see you all when my net starts working again!

I just found the FW190 so unstable as a joystick player (i.e. full realistic controls, no instructor) when performing tight manoeuvres, it has a high stall speed and nasty stall characteristics of flipping in the other direction (again, another realistic trait apparently). I find the 109 much better in this regard, it climbs nicely, is ok at altitude, turns ok enough to get out of trouble but the armament is so lacking. I'm researching that F4 to get those 20mm gondola cannons ;)

Just really disappointed that I cannot get on with the 190 (A1), it's just not effective at mid-low altitudes like I hoped it was going to be, I was expecting the stall characteristics to not be so bad.

After a mammoth sesh' last night using the Mk.22 Spitfire (easily one of my favourite Spits, thanks to great firepower, maneuverability and the ability to carry rockets or bombs), featuring the help of such great personalities as Mr. Spangles, Essex and Boycey, with Anthony playing a supporting role...

I ALSO have the Meteor! :D
...Well... I say that, but not actually... coz its hella expensive and I don't have half the lions I need to buy it, nevermind putting it in my lineup. But if I did, I could!
Review to follow.

I'd just started to get used to the FW190-A5; it seemed better than the A1 in that energy retention in the vertical was better. Then they go and adjust the flight model. Tried it out last night and I've died spinning my plane into the ground in the last 3 games. GRRRR. Got to get used to it all over again.

So I was trundling along an enemy runway, capping quietly to myself, when this Avenger comes along and drops his bombs on me!

Well, I was not having any of that nonsense! Rocket time!

Very Honourable!

I then proceeded to cap unmolested, and won the game.
OcUK - Coming on your airfield.
But sometimes coming up off it. ****ed off, and with rockets.
