******Official War Thunder Thread*******

Thing is, the Tempest Mk V was introduced very early in 1944. I'm going up against F80's which didn't see proper service until just after the war. I wish they would narrow the bands a little based on historic data.

Indeed, my lad and I play this; he's doing the Brit line, I'm doing the Jap line. Both seem to have plane's off tier - the battle rating of a lot of the planes lead to mis-matches.

The other lines seem to get a lot more attention from the developers sadly. Although low tiers are tolerable - dunno if we'll make it to tier 5 for either of our chosen lines.

Well put a app in for the Squadron - Scott_Freer

Also got the A20-G thingy.

Current line up is the a20, FA2 thingy, and its prem equvalint, the Avenger and the Dauntless, and the Cat

Seem to be coming 3-6th in most games now, irrespective of loss or win, so doing okish.

Not keen on the rockets on the A20 now I ahve them, so think its 4x 500lbers will be going back on.

Half way through reaserching my first B25 as well!!!

Think I may research it, but then switch to getting some of the other tier2 planes fighters etc.

What do you do about crews etc? do you have dedicated fighter ones and bomber ones or do you just retrain them each time?

I've unlocked all the nations already, and opened up the crew slots on them prior to having to put money into the game

Do you have Teamspeak or something like?

Are there any good deals in terms of prem time, gold etc?

Saw something about a steam deal a while back not sure if its still true?

Downloaded earlier, will play later on.

p.s. what am I doing?

If you're brand new to War Thunder, play the tutorials - they are useful.

Then get yourself into some arcade battles with your reserve planes, and try to shoot down some enemy planes and destroy ground targets with your guns. For now, that's about all you need to know :p

Rockets on the A20 aren't that effective for killing ground units, but why would you use them to kill ground targets when you could shoot down planes with them? :D :p 1-hit kill on anything, so pick on juicy targets like PBY's.

For crews, I try and spread things around so I've a crew with several planes and gaps in the BR between them - but as Gaijin keep changing the BR of planes, this can get a bit mixed up! For bombers, it doesn't matter a lot until you start purchasing extra gunners. For a fighter, this does nothing, but due to the cost of gunners it makes sense to have 1 slot dedicated to bombers, or more depending on how much you love teh bomb.

However, a lot of bomber gunners are garbage anyway, seeing as they only have a single 7.7mm MG, or sometimes 2 if you're incredibly lucky - so it's often not a wise expense putting extra gunners in, compared to improving your crew in other ways.

Exception to this rule is of course, the honourable H6K. With a 20mm cannon in the tail position, it's such fun to man it and destroy whichever idiot thinks it's a good idea to attack you from behind. Check the earlier pages to see what a full OcUK squad of H6K's in full troll-mode can do!

ok <bit of in work googleing etc>

Steam deal is now £24.99 still a good do, but I didn't go through steam to get WT? Can I still get that bundle?

Never used Steam you see

If you're looking at the Ace Advanced pack on Steam, then yes you can buy it, but only once.

It was on sale last Christmas, but haven't seen it on sale since.

You'll need a Steam account to get the bundle, and you can setup War Thunder through Steam, the only real advantage being once you add friends on Steam you can see easily when they are / aren't playing WT, or other games.

The 10,000 eagles is better value than buying them in-game, and you get 2 months of nice premium bonuses. The Typhoon 1b is awesome, coming fully upgraded and packing 4x 20mm cannons, but at the moment it'll be useless to you unless you fly it in Realistic battles only, because in Arcade it'll put you up against players who have a full lineup of BR 3.7 - 4.0 planes, and you'll only have 1. :p

The Pe-2 is one of about 10,000 Pe2's that the Russians have, all of which are uninspiring and almost identical. I think I've flown it twice...
whereas my Tight-poon has 349 air kills, for being shot down 131 times. See why I love it? :D

Ok cool cheers for the advice

I'll try and figure it out and see if I have any spare money once I've played a few more games and done a few more lines - think once I ahve done t1-3 in the yanks, I'll do the brits.

Then consider that bundle

And I'll get the H6K, it seems to be the squad mascot so Can't let the side down it seems

It's tougher than I expected it to be.

Cheers very much

Might be on later after work, but got a few things to deal with this week in work so it could be weekend before I'm on for a decent ammount of time

if there is a TS I ahve it installed so let me know don't mind chating utter rubbish while crashing gracefully into the nearest landmark

Cheers for the games tonight guys, much appreciate the help

Got my B25, and its great.

Defo need to learn more and practice

learning is a tough one, you are fighting people who are inherently stupid most of the time, its overcoming this that is the problem.

The B25 is great, a lot of low-tier fighters dont expect you to take them on which can provide many lols

Its a good job I seem to fly stupidly then - I fit right in currently.

The Realistic battles I did with sira were good as well - definatly something I'll be doing more of, even though my current flight style is not sutiable for it - steep learning curve but its worth it.

Yeah the B25 has proven to be great fun so far, it really is very chuckable in the air on arcade, though the sooner its fully set up the better

Currently working on the rest of my t2's in the american line up, I won't have much longer left on them - about 4-5 planes if that.

Got some great advice on the crew skills etc - very very welcome for that.

Also got my first Hawk as well, looks like a well armed thing, though I'm not long off the P40e now as well

F6F. 'Nuff said. It's mediocre in arcade but really really shines in realistic since it handles beautifully, a really stable aircraft and gun platform. With 6 x 12.7 mm guns it makes short work of most things in RB, along with 2400 rounds it means you can fight for a long time in it.

Bought the Ace pack last night. This game is so good. Obviously need to practice a lot, but its a lot of fun. Think I've got a headset somewhere so I'll have to get TS up and running and join the squad.

Have you requested to join the squadron?

What's your in-game name, and I'll add you if you want some company / wingman.

Now, get spending on some lovely crew points and premium planes :p

Fantastic! It's great to have some fresh blood to distract the enem... I mean...have join our wonderful team...yeeesss... -_-

Get yourselves up to Battle Rating 3.7 and 4.0 in your chosen countries, then start work on the Russian lineup. Thanks to Gaijin being a Russian company, and seemingly quite biased, their planes are known to be good from low level biplanes all the way to Jets. Some might say OP. And we all enjoy running our 3.7 Ruskies on occasion, or even dropping to biplanes and showing the real noobs who's boss (10+ kill games are easy to come by at this level).
