****** Official World of Warships Thread ******

I tried the carriers and wasn't sure about then, but having played the tier 5 Jap carrier... What a beast! Loaded with 3 torpedo planes and a bomber you can do quite a lot of damage either with a big attack in one go or a constant steam of planes heading to the enemy. I quite like this one!

I've just unlocked the T4 american cruiser as I enjoyed playing the St Louis, however it's gone from 14 guns to 6 and torpedo's.

Do the higher tier cruisers get back to more guns?

Yup, every free to play game ever has them

;) You know it.

So this is out to play LIVE now ?

Yup, free to download now.

I suspect part of the problem is the complexity involved in distilling down a complex operation of a warship, into a game being controlled by a single person. Granted, we don't need to manually shovel coal into boilers, but even a destroyer has separate lookouts, helmsmen, gun aimers, etc. It is actually quite a lot to manage, as well as then thinking about the actual aims of winning the map, or team play.

I've played a few games, but with my limited skillz they often turn into slugging matches, or isolated 1v1's and I don't feel as though I can contribute a lot to the 'team' effort, even if there is any team play happening.

Also, there's no penalty for not bothering with team play. Frustrating as War Thunder can be when your team fails, at least there's some incentive to try and win a match. Seems a lot of people just play Warships to do their own thing - and I don't see a way of changing that easily.

Free to play = no incentive to play well.

Yes, wait until you get to T6 with the Cleveland, dpm monster ;).

well allmost at my t6 jap destroyer and t5 jap cruiser.

Enjoyign this so far, but it feels like something has changed in the gameplay from Closed Alfa and Beta - not sure its not the lack of players.

Noted that the new destroyer players are dropping torpedos to far from targets and with other players in the way.

I don't think a lot of new DD players even know what the range of the torps are, also see this with those players that all of a sudden get torps in the cruiser lines, the amount of time i have been tk by some idiot in a Tenryu is astounding.

you guys have a clan for this? just started playing at tier 6 US BB, kinda of enjoying it after a break from warthunder, sick of no cooperation with the dam tools you get lumbered with in matchmaking

Most of the games I've had in WoWS seem to be populated by the same idiots I've seen in WoT since they fire their guns at nothing in particular (some times, I felt like going into chat and state that firing your guns makes you easier to spot even if you're out of detection range) and seem to go off in whatever direction they want.

seen a lot of this where each side just fires guns from the start what they dont realise is people are starting to practice at finding the source. Last night I was in a match next to a ship top right of the map. He started firing from the off about 5 times, didnt move at all just fired. Then he stopped firing and started to move slowly. As I was moving off just level with him all of a sudden 4 lots of shots come over the horizon, hit him and blew him up. Another one I wish I had videod. Made me wonder if there was a mod someone had created to identify source of shots when you can't see the ship.

St louis is a DPM monster. Cleveland can be wrecked easily if you know where to aim to hit its citadel (which isnt hard on this ship).

The St louis though is silly armored for its tier, has an insane amount of gun and its citadel points are all below the water line and very hard to hit with shells

There is/was a mod for WoT that marks the last known position on the map. i seem to think this has been made for WoWs too so this may explain it if he hasnt bothered to move.

There is a Aslan mod pack for Warships, but I also understand there is a Warpack aswell that's been developed - Which I hope is wrong :(

It's just a game mechanic (as I mentioned) where you can be spotted from further away if you fire your guns (the same thing happens if you don't turn off your AA guns and secondary armaments at the start of the match), but you're only visible for a limited amount of time so it takes someone to actually notice and take a speculative shot if the targeted ship isn't visible (remember that you do get notifications when you hit a target) and considering how many times that person fired their guns it's possible if there was someone in range they had enough time to target, get into firing rage and blow the idiot out of the water.

Also, you can enable replays in WoWS but it does require editing a file or you can use the Aslain mod pack which does the work for you so you can run the replay file and record it after anything has happened.

Just discovered signal flags perks (exterior tab) and ship upgrades (next to ammunition in modules) purchased with "normal" money. Also just got 1 day free premium too for moving up a level in my profile. Unless the flags dont show on other ships I've not actually seen any other ships with the flags.

Had some really good matches tonight although probably because the other team were stupid. We were losing an A-B-C match 2 to 1 and we were 5 v 3 ships for some reason the 5 ships didnt capture our C zone so we took B and we reversed it to 2 v 3 ships then started to take A but managed to get the other 2 ships. Dont know how as mine and another hardly had any health left.

Also had first taste of the opposing team telling us to destroy one of their own for doing nothing.

Starting to get the hang of the tier 6 carrier now, just had a good game with lots of damage...

6096 fire damage
25877 flooding damage
7173 bomb damage

and 118887 torpedo damage :D

Carrier matchmaking is really broken in this at the moment. It's like the mm system has no idea how to balance them. Had several games where it puts me and another langley or hosho v a tier 6 carrier. Consequenty every group of fighters we threw up even 2 v its 1 got wrecked and it appeared my fighters couldn't even shoot the t6's torp bombers down.

Is there a way in game to see the user names of the ships in your team, wether it be in the map or in the normal view?

Had a weird game last night where someone was annoyed that i fired my torpedoes too close then I think there was a mixup and being 5v1 up, our guys started fighting each other till i was the only one left and we lost...I had a feeling the guy who started it thought he was shooting at me.

If you press L Alt then it will display more info above the ships, this can also be turned on permanently through settings.

Re. Carriers, I'd love to see how many people are playing them. I'm not convinced it is that many. Maybe the MM is really limited in its choice.

Personally I hate carrier play. Much rather get into a decent dpm cruiser or a sneaky IJN destroyer.

I also find the RNG element of battleships really frustrating. You wait 40 seconds, fire a carefully aimed salvo and miss from 8km. The occasional 3 citadel hit salvos are fun, but it is just like playing a KV2 with the derp gun.
