** Official WoW Catalysm Alpha/Beta Thread **

Im a bit stuck on whether to be a priest or a paladin. Whats a good way to figure out which one to be? I was thinking try them both to a certain level like 10-15. Is that a good idea and if i do it that way is it best to be the same race so its fair.

Are you going to heal?

If it's for DPS, it might be worth trying out a druid too. Why?

They've got everything, long range mage DPS (balance), the feral DPS (basically a rogue) the tank role as a bear, and of course healer with restoration.

depends what you doing at end game

for me at the moment:-

Priest - PVP (Shadow is pukka)
PVE - Pala (Tank, DPS or Heal)

Priest sounds like a fun class where everyone wants in there team. I love the idea of just going up to a random player and just helping them out with quests and have his back with healing. My only worry is that there may be times when i need to solo can they do damage?

You could just level in Cata as a holy paladin. That way you'll see the old world changes, and better yet will get instant queues for dungeons!

Don't have time to wait. I'm in a semi hardcore guild + will be healing role leader. So need to gear and level to 85 asap. Will be spending the next weekend getting to 80 so it seems.

Hmm. I'm leveling a paladin now with a friend who's leveling resto druid (we're just doing it for fun). Hit an amazing level 10 in 2 days! :p

Though we've barely put effort into it. Really looking forward to do dungeons though, tank + healer = win!

Yes,they can do damage. The amount of damage they do is offset by the fact they can heal themselves.Fights will generally take a little longer if you have a healing spec but it's totally viable to solo with it.

The downsides to a priest are cloth armour so you'll be very squishy at first. You'll also be sitting and drinking mana drinks fairly often because all of your damage comes from spells..at least till you level a bit and get a wand for damage. On the plus side priests are very versatile healers with 2 effective healing talent trees. You can heal groups very easily and quickly as well as heal single targets very well.

Paladins use mail armour at first then get to wear plate at higher levels. They use a combination of weapon damage and spells when attacking. They are a hybrid class and you'll be able to choose whether to dps, tank or heal.Their healing isn't as versatile as a priests, they tend to excel at single target healing but suffer a little when trying to heal groups quickly.Soloing tends to be *much* easier with a paladin too with little downtime between killing.

To be honest, either class can heal 5 man groups well enough and you'll be in demand as a healer no matter which healing class you choose.I chose a priest as my main character because of it's versatility and challenging play style.I'm happy I made the right choice.I've tried a paladin but didn't like it.

Ultimately it boils down to what you like the look of :D

This. Don't know why someone would swap an account when it takes about 5 minutes to claim it back...

Exactly, there is nothing at all you can do to secure it and it just makes you another form of ebayer :(

He was even asking for one about level 74! I cant understand that at all considering it takes no time at all to level and its not like he would be getting a decked out character.

I've started to play again after 2 years, last time I logged in was november '08. I left my warrior at 72 and now he's nerly 75. Wanting him to tank! :)

Try running the Repair.exe utility first and see if that makes a difference. If not, use the Streaming Client which you can download here. You'll probably have to re-download a whole lot unfortunately.

Also, if you're using Vista or Windows 7 don't forget to set the launcher.exe and wow.exe Compatibility Modes to 'Run as Administrator'.

Does it crash with an error number?

Thanks, didn't even know there was a repair option! It repaired the files and it's almost finished downloading the patch so I'll be good to go again tomorrow.

What level do you think i need to play them both to, so i can make my choice?

one thing that really bothers me in this game now are the achievement points... something about the whole system just constantly irks me. call it being anal or being over-concerned with trivialities, but my playing experience is constantly ruined when i'm aware of how little achievement points my character has. i got to rank14 in vanilla and experienced most of the game's content, but took time off from tbc (when i rerolled a belf) and wotlk (irl university commitments). now i've returned my character just feels... 'weak' in some arbitrarily quantified way. perhaps it's just me but, yeah, achievement points have really spoilt my enjoyment of the game-- they detract from the original focus of raiding and hardcore pvp.

i get the same thing in starcraft 2 as well. multiplayer league stats are great and all but then there's that pesky achievement figure just leering at you from the top-corner... :/

giving this another crack at the moment, blizzard support was amazing (forgot my acc details and the account got "blocked" it seems a month or so ago randomly) sent off some details and my account was running with a week free added on :)

Anyway, playing a gnome mage at the moment and question with a tiny bit of grind/kill everything i see for lulz and having great fun. Am level 16, has taken a bit but im going slow and not letting wow get ontop of life. Joined a few mates from uni on a server so will be doing instances etc with them soon to boost up my leveling quicker.

But so far im enjoying it :D learning the best way for me to use the skills i have to take on level 20 mobs tonight, was a ball ache but its fun. :)

Cata hype has got to me too!
