** Official WoW Catalysm Alpha/Beta Thread **

I have seen chaos bolts critting for 30k from lvl 82 warlocks in duels, and shadowstep ambush crits doing 20k. This is not ranting. Every single ability seems to have had it's damage boosted by 2~3.5x. People said that the high damage in WOTLK beta was just a bug, and would be fine on release, and look what happened. 14k scourge stikes on WOTLK release, that didnt get fixed for the entire duration of the beta.

In the end of the day, the beta is the best bet we have at the direction the game is taking, so I don't see the point branding everything as a bug or a rant.
Blizzard have never got the start of an expansion balanced, I sincerely hope that Cataclysm changes that trend. Strong feedback needs to be made to help the developers get it right.

Levelling dungeons aren't supposed to be hard, especially when its designed for people in greens to complete.

And what higher end stuff? the level cap is only 82, bit early to be bringing out the doom and gloom that its all nerfed and too easy.

Lol @ the complaints about damage and such. Numbers are practically the last thing they do in beta, right now i'll bet well over half the numbers for abilities are just a case of "that'll work for now".

As someone else said, might wanna relax a bit before going off on rants about pvp/pve balance until they maybe actually finish adding all the abilties and putting the level cap to 85?

Also, imo the changes (dumbing down if you want) to stats are one of the best things in cata. No longer do you need to wait for some genius to figure out the formula for your stats so you can tell if something is an actual upgrade or not.

I can understand why people may like the simplifying and streamlining of the game and to be honest considering that I am a casual player these dats the changes are probably better for me.

Personal preference though was that I liked technicalities, I liked crowd control and I liked challenging content. The game was more skill based whereas now it's generally players with best gear are those who can spend the most time at their pc.

As I say it's personal prefernce but I can understand why blizz has made the changes ($$$$$$$) but I can't help but feel a wee but disapointed with how it is changing. I will continue to play due to lack of alternatives and probably enjoy, to an extent, what is still on offer.

That's interesting No1newts, because from what I've heard if anything the new instances are close to, but not quite as difficult as the Burning Crusade normal mode instances. CC, situation awareness, multiple encounter phases etc. are part of the two opened so far, and we haven't yet got around to the Heroic modes.

A large part of how 5-mans in Cataclysm are pitched difficulty-wise depends on tank threat gen and mitigation, as well as the ability of other classes to effectively CC and/or off-tank. Until all the class changes are made it's really difficult to get a handle on what everything is going to look like when levelling, never mind at the level cap. I hope that Blizzard has got the memo that most outspoken players are sending: we really don't mind challenging 5-man content.

As for Defense as a stat... yeah, what Broken Hope said. Juggling stats around the crit-immune value doesn't determine skill or knowledge level (in the same way that a Prot Pally reaching uncrushable in TBC didn't), being aware of stat-ing priorities on a per-tier, per-class bases started to.

I think there is going to be a bit more CC in cata from what I have seen. Even an ICC 25 geared 5 man group were sheeping and trapping mobs last night in a few nasty 6 mob pulls. Some of the boss fights look pretty interesting aswell.

Something else to try and refresh your locked beta account. Change your password on live, it may take an hour or so to update the beta account with the change.

Watch TotalBiscuits playthrough of the first two dungeons. The introductory dungeons have CC in them, one of the bosses hit a tank for 45k unmitigated and most tanks without raid buffs nor ICC buf most tanks (not hardcore) don't have 45k HP...

'AoE' packs do 16k damage AoE knockbacks, bosses do combo-abilities, stop following the trend of every other WoW player that jumps of the Blizzard has dumbed everything down... WoTLK had the hardest encounters in Yogg+0, Algalon25 (at first) and LK25HC. Nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses indeed... M'uru, 4H and KT were undoubtedly awful but that which happened in the past is always harder than the challenges today because of said glasses.

They simplified stats because of the maths needed to balance stuff like Arp...

Lethal seemed to make the point this wasn't true and that the zones would change once you'd come back from Northrend.

Aye I did, this was before Alpha started and was something I had red on MMO Champ.

Although it doesn't seem to be the case now.

I hadn't heard anything / seen anything about the Zones changing once your back from Northrend and I don't think you linked / sourced the info like you said you would :p

Anyway! Really looking forward to Catalysm now :)

Finally received a reply regarding the alpha ban, not much info really.

Greetings,

Thank you for your email and our sincere apologies for the long delay in
responding. As you mentioned, your Cataclysm Beta account was
permanently suspended after being involved in a violation of our Rules
and Policies.

Unfortunately we are unable to see details of the exact violation that
took place; regardless, there is no possibility for the restriction on
the account to be removed.

It is with regret that we have to take this type of action, however it
is in the best interest of the World of Warcraft community as a whole,
and for the integrity of the game, that we have cancelled your access to
the World of Warcraft Cataclysm Beta servers.

Kind regards,

Blizzard Entertainment Europe

It's a bit heavy handed to permanently ban everyone who took up colin's offer from the both the PTR and the Cata Beta. (I'm assuming this is the group that have got the ban anyway). You wouldn't think that taking up an offer from a Blizzard employee would get you a ban. Still, its hardly the end of the world. I guess that even acknowledging that you were in the Alpha was breaking the NDA though.

Like quite a few people, I didn't post on this thread until I was banned, also how would they even link this forum account to the battle.net account? It seems more likely they have just banned any account that was invited via colinuk.

It's quite frustrating to not even be told why and be given a permanent black mark on my battle.net account, which may rule me out of any further Blizzard beta tests and the current public test realm.

I'm hoping that Blizzard will get this expansion right, it certainly looks very promising so far.

Tauren Paladin is where it's at! :p

I've not read this anywhere, but will the race changes be available immediately on the release of Cataclysm, for example Blood Elf Paladin to Tauren Paladin?

I would imagine the Goblin and Worgen ones will be held back for a while at least.

Well...that reply was helpful :).

After all this carry on with bans, almost non-existent customer support and my interest in wotlk not very high atm, I knocked my sub on the head earlier this week. I explained this in the comments for cancelling and just ended up with a template reply of "Please be advised our North American office is not able to provide direct assistance for any issues regarding the European release of the game.". Another hugely helpful email .

I used to have a lot of respect for Blizzard, but after all this, screw 'em.

As has been said before - not everyone Colin invited got banned. Must have been for other reasons.

Got the same email from blizzard as the one above, word for word. Going to send one back as I don't believe it to be acceptable behaviour on their part yet.

Of course its acceptable. Its their beta/alpha. They can allow/disallow whoever they want to play. Its not like you were paying for it either, and getting all up in arms about being removed is just plain silly. Just accept it and enjoy reading the news on mmoc witch is more often than not, more upto date than the beta. Since a lot of the changes blizz announces are from internal builds that havnt reached testing yet anyways. So youre not really missing out on that much anyway.

Also for anyone wondering why i wasnt banned, i wasnt invited by colin. ..And no i dont know why nor can i really guess as to why so many of you were banned.

I wouldnt go wasting your time and blizzards with pointless emails.

But since the nda is gone if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and i may answer them if i have enough time :-)
