Olympic Opening Ceremony

Anyone else think that the track list for the Opening Ceremony was just amazing...

Tune after Tune

Yes loved the music from beginning to end, especially the soundtrack to the Pandemonium section with the forging of the rings. But one stuck out in my head as extremely random. After what felt like an hour solid of techno music being pumped out during the Athlete's Parade... then BAM!, Bee Gees out of nowhere.

There was a bit too much High Contrast and Underworld for my liking. Good tunes. But there's more British electronic music pioneers than those.

Only one bit of HC which sampled Baba O'Riley and one bit of Underworld which was pretty much the defining tune for a generation, even my dad has it on CD!

**edit** Just seen the listings, I'm wrong :p Mind you most of those are new productions and Underworld drafted in High Contrast to work on the sound track so I guess it's obvious they'll feature heavily.

To the anti-nhs brigade, I wonder how much less tax I'd pay if there was no NHS ? Similarly, I wonder how much I'd have to pay towards private health insurance to get equivalent cover.

Anyway, I thought it was a great show, displaying some of our culture, achievements and humour to the world and it seems most people really enjoyed it after the hyper-efficient, impressive but somewhat soulless display in Beijing.

You do know you can be against the current setup of the NHS without wanting to go towards an American health insurance model?

... Not sure if this has been discussed or not but why does The Daily Mail think it can get away with blatant racial stereotyping and discrediting the good work the NHS has been doing for many years. ...
I can't believe that anyone could ask such a question

It's the Daily Mail for God's sake, it's bound to bitch and whine about anything at all to do with the NHS and also with the Olympics if it comes to that.

I am disappointed that Great Britain haven't done better so far in the cycling and swimming but the opening ceremony was great and the coverage has been great, particularly the gymnastics - I am a most reluctant convert :)

you can like the NHS without using it for some weird political message?

One thing I don't understand, why did they keep making announcements in French then translating them into English, it slowed the whole process down as everybody(who couldn't speak French) waited to find out the information..

If it was in Paris I could understand, but it's the London Olympics so all announcements should have been in English..

It should be done in this order: Host Countries Language > French > English if needed.

Who cares if it's tradition or whatever, the host has spent millions upon millions putting their games together, the least you can do is not have THEIR language come last like it was in China.

I agree.

The girl who was announcing the country-names in English sounded more and more hyper & happy as time wore on. I think by the time they reached "G" she was on her 10th can of Relentless.

Well its the daily mail, they think that a fearful readership is a loyal readership. Their readers won't change, but like any relic of a bygone era they will simply die out and then we can be rid of such a comic publication.
