Olympic Opening Ceremony

Overall I liked it, the industrial age show was kinda epic, however the were really two underlying things that really came over very big:

1: This country doesn't appear to have done anything worth shouting about in a century.

2: This country hasn't produced much decent music since the 80's, and on that note where was the Priest/Maiden/Sabbath? these are the British bands the world remembers from the 80's not the pop **** that was only popular here and while I personally hate the Spice Girls they were the biggest band of the 90's, seems to me the guy in charge just picked British music he liked lol

Couldnt agree more to be honest. Just showed me that we USED to a be a great nation, all we seem to be proud of now is Facebook and texting.

As a starting point go read some history books, look at some technology sites, learn about our defence exports, that might go to change your totally odd view on Britain.

To say we haven't done anything to shout about is so misguided it's hilarious. I do wonder about people such as yourself, if you have no national pride and only wish to run the country down could you do us all a favour and find your utopia country and leave.

Completely agree.

It both outstands me and worries me how negative people are. I can only imagine how much fun these people are to hang around with.

I thought the opening ceremony was awesome, I admit it was helped by watching with much more cultured friends who knew the relevance of every part of it.

He didn't say that.....he said that was the impression the ceremony gave, not that was his opinion.

Indeed. Uk lead the field in many of the sciences, medical advances, astronomy, mathematics and lots of others.

In which case I apologise, I'm just on high British defence mode atm :)

I do agree that it didn't showcase the nations future, which is a shame because we are at the cutting edge of many things.

Dunno how it came across on the tele but I was there on Friday and it was awesome from the stadium. The only boring part was when the athletes came out, my god that went on for what seemed like a lifetime. Thankfully for most of it they had some decent music on otherwise would have fallen asleep.

Too much time on spent on the NHS.
No hard rock/metal, with too much time spent on sex pistols/clash. The rest of the world knows us better for other music (in my opinion rightly so). Also, Sir Paul was an embarrassment.

Would have loved some Python, but perhaps that was too British for the international audience.

Loved the show though, the transformation of the landscape was fantastic. Queen + bond was a nice surprise and Rowan Atkinson was fantastic as usual. The way they did the beacon was genius as well.

They should have gave the brits with speaking parts elocution lessons though.
