Olympic Opening Ceremony

One thing I don't understand, why did they keep making announcements in French then translating them into English, it slowed the whole process down as everybody(who couldn't speak French) waited to find out the information..

If it was in Paris I could understand, but it's the London Olympics so all announcements should have been in English..

International Olympic Committee (le Comité international olympique) is a Swiss organisation and French is it's first language. The founder, Pierre de Coubertin, was from Paris.

It should be done in this order: Host Countries Language > French > English if needed.

Who cares if it's tradition or whatever, the host has spent millions upon millions putting their games together, the least you can do is not have THEIR language come last like it was in China.

I disagree because I don't think the order is a big deal.

Black people were on TV darling, BBC and their left wing agenda!!!!!!

Sorry I really don't see how it was left wing or right wing for that matter, celebrating the NHS is not left wing as most conservatives love it just as much as the lefties.
This.

Most of the older conservatives I know support the NHS & are proud of it, just not the extensive welfare state.

The whining and crying by the right over the ceremony is incredible - the second you see a brown face on TV they start harping on about multiculturalism & some hidden lefty agenda.

Overall, it was a good show - had some depth & character (Along with a bit of humor which I was pleasantly surprised about) & he wasn't afraid to ruffle a few feathers - good on him for having some guts.

Read the thread, it's been explained many, many times already.

Reading the first page of this thread is just lol. So much misplaced pesimissm maybe Boyle should have made that British trait a theme!

Hello

Does anyone know what the group was called and the songs name, as the flame was being carried around by the young athletes at the opening Ceremonies

Read all of that, most amusing. Quite hilarious in fact.
Sometimes it is nice just to get the broadcast.
On 3 of the 24 HD channels BBC were broadcasting the ceremony, with commentry, without commentary and with audio description. They also broadcasted it in 3D.

So far I think the BBC have done well.

I've watcehd beach volleyball, handball (which wasn't the sort of handball I was expecting - aparently this is a european olympic handball) and volleyball, the wife watched badminton, we both watched simming and gymnastics and flicked to the cycling. I really enjoyed the archery, and some of the Judo too. The coverage has been great.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know what track was playing when David Beckham was doing his speedboat bit and also during the montage before? Ta.
