Olympic Opening Ceremony

I thought it was a bit disjointed at some points but overall it was excellent to watch. I know Mr.Bean was fairly popular but I thought that part was absolutely cringeworthy. There has quite obviously been a huge amount of clever thought gone into it and Danny Boyle is incredibly talented but it seemed like segments such as the Mr.Bean part were just 'fillers' for when they had ran out of ideas.
 
I wasn't expecting much at all, but I really enjoyed it. Within like 25 minutes the stage had totally turned around.

Didn't really like the NHS bit, thought it was quite random and it got very busy with Harry Potter and Mary Poppins etc.

Find it great watching all the countries athletes come out as well, all so happy and some dressed very brightly!

Hardly......it was a valid (and not necessarily negative) observation about the overall feel of the ceremony, from the scenes of the Industrial revolution, to the NHS and onto multicultural Britain....(not sure about the CND bit though)

Stockhausen just comes put with his usual personal attacks when he has nothing better to do. Par for the course.

The Mr. Bean was filler. It had to have filler, because you can't redress a stage and move hundreds of people off it without a pause. So the pauses were filled with bits of music, video and comedy.

I thought the Bean bit was genius and, from an international point-of-view, I think the British underestimate how much global cachet Mr. Bean has. He really is a British Icon in many countries around the world.
 
Good show but not on par with Beijing and Athens, probably sydney too. I strongly believe there is a hell lot more history and culture in the kingdom than the industrial revolution, NHS, sms's and music.
 
I didn't watch it all, had it on from around 10. It was pretty good and terribly British. The Queen could have at least feigned interest though!

Gotta say, whoever was controlling the broadcasting needs to be shot for that... Seems VERY odd they showed her just at that time as they would have known what she was doing before they flipped to her.

I agree - if it was supposed to showcase British contributions to the world, there was a massive amount of important events missed out.

because athens was more artistic and beijing epic . I dont know why should i remember last nights ceremony, except maybe mr Bean. But then is this all there is to Britain? What happened to Darwin, Shakespear, Brunel, Victoria, Cook? Its like you people have a fight with your past, thats fine to me but allow me to have another picture of Britain in my mind...i didnt like it anyway.

It was pretty much incoherent too, in athens and beijing there was a starting and ending point. Yesterday?

And wtf was that with samsung phones, i mean seriously? and the better part was when athletes were coming in the stadium the vast majority of them had iphones :D

Isambard Kingdom Brunel had a key part in the industrial revolution piece, he also read a passage from Shakespeare in the opening of it.

Agreed...Hence my comment earlier. It seemed to focus on a very narrow perspective. Where was all the pomp and circumstance, Knights and Clans (instead of those floaty things on bikes, we could have had knights on horseback, bagpipes and the Scottish Clans...... something a little more epic!), Science, Literature, Exploration and the Sea, a relationship that defined Britain in many ways......

The NHS is important and a great accomplishment, but I don't think it defines British identity exactly.
