Olympic Opening Ceremony

Thought the whole thing was excellent, only spoiled by the BBC presenters speaking at times when they should have just kept quiet.

I agree with what you are saying, about a boxer, who won a medal 60 years ago. Greatest heavyweight yes, pound for pound, debatable. Everyone else in that final runup represented something, what was he there for? I either missed it in the commentary, or there wasn't a specific reason?

His link to sport ? Being one of the greatest sportsmen and Olympians of them all ?

Can't believe everyone on the internet saying it was good. I thought it was terrible ceremony apart from the bond bit with the queen. I was in a bar watching and i'd say about 2/3rds of everyone thought it was rubbish as well.

Mr bean is one of british TV's biggest exports! It's seen all around the world and the show has been sold in 245 territories worldwide (Thansk Wikipedia!) so to some countries it's a big example of Britain.

One of my friends is Chinese and it made his night seeing Mr Bean. Apparantly he's quite big in China.

I thought it was brilliant. The whole Industrial Revolution sequence was simply the best piece of performance art I have ever seen. Wonderful. Mr Bean was epic. I loved the celebration of the NHS, an institution that is quite rightly the envy of the world. An institution which Mr.Cameron et al is trying his best to dismantle, so a big slap in the face for him I thought. :D My only twinge of embarrisment was Paul McCartney at the end. He may have been great once, but his voice was offkey and weak last night. Maybe he should retire. :p

Thought it was pretty good! :) Loved the transition from the farmland to an industrial landscape.

Would have loved to have seen a Bond scene played out after they parachuted in.
