ONM - MarioKart Wii Review

Anyone know what the supply of Wii wheels is?

Got a copy of the game this morning from a local store, but need to get a 2nd wheel now. About to head into Oxford to try my luck..

Games way too easy :/

With the wheel especially, turboing around every corner means you end up miles in front every time

Don't think I'll bother with single player just multiplayer now

Had a good go with this last night at a mates and am going to get a copy myself but might wait for the price to drop or for some more money to come my way as right now I can't afford it :(

That's like saying don't use your right foot in football because it makes it easier.

Okay Kreeeee you know the guy is right ;)

You have already admitted online is too easy. Well I went online and pretty much everyone was using the wheel and you are using the superior method.

IMO it spoils the fairness and spirit of console gaming. Like someone using keyboard and mouse against those with joypads... no one is debating KB/M is more accurate, easier but its not the point now is it :)

Now maybe mario kart DS is more skilled but its not gone anywhere and if you are looking for more skilled racing games we have PC sims and console racers like PGR4.

I could easily beat my casual gaming friends using the joystick cos I know they will want to play using the wheel but where is the fun in that? :p

Now go beat the n00bs using the n00b method of control :D

/hug

Is there anyway to do non-team play in multiplayer battle mode... I just want 4 player free for all like in MK64. Enjoying the racing aspect of the game but battle mode is a real let down for me because of this :(

Yeah this really sucks! If anyone knows the way please enlighten us.

I'm not a fan of the wheel, it doesn't feel like Mario Kart with it. It's quite good fun but the nunchuck is better although I think I will buy a classic controller.

What the hell is snaking? I have read the wiki explanation but am none the wiser.

strange, just tried playing online and kept getting kicked off after about 10 seconds into a race.

Any reason why or just dodgy internet connection ?

It's like the losers whining about snaking all over again. I want to get beaten because someone is better than me, not because I chose to use a poor control scheme. Online would be much better if ranking worked and I wasn't always pitted against lowly 6500 ranks.

Play some games that are not full mainly of little kids, people playing for a laugh and casual gamers?

EDIT: Surely the ranking system can not really ever work? I mean someone who plays it lots but comes just over half way may not be good but could have a really high score?

EDIT 2: Maybe not many people are your rank yet?

EDIT 3: I can't really see you getting beaten even when using the wheel?

Got this today, pretty fun playing 4 player co-op and gives a good reason to dust off my wii. I got it for a Fiver too when trading in red steel and super monkey ball :D

On ps3 UT3 there are joypad only servers. Why did nintendo not put people using the wheels in the same servers?

To me it is obvious those using that method are the "Wii" player base :p

I swear, we need a Godwin's law for use of the words "casual" or "hardcore" in console threads. We can call it Von's law. It'll be great.

No its just pretty obvious that if you are playing e.g. COD 4 on "hardcore" search and destroy you are in a different mind frame to when playing the majority of Wii games like mario kart "Wii" with a wheel :)

People just assume you can not be both and like I am assuming in your case take offense.

EDIT: I think when playing the Wii I become a casual gamer i.e far less competitive, more than happy to lose and give my friends and others a sporting chance. Whereas on PC games I would say I am more hardcore e.g. first person shooters I tend to be far more competitive, 100% in the zone and rub it in when I am on a roll.

So as you can see I can switch between being a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer whereas I think Kreeeee is permanently in hardcore mode :p

So far enjoying it, much the same as all the other versions of Mario Kart but why change a winning formula.

Only used the wheel control method but it's simple and enjoyable and I'm not too bothered about having the best advantage over others etc, great pick up and play game.
