ONM - MarioKart Wii Review

It's probably because I'm used to using a pad for every other mario kart and am just being stubborn when I couldn't use the wheel effectively from the word go.

I much prefer the wiimote + nunchuck though, feels more direct and responsive to me.

After 10 mins or so pulling off turbos is every bit as easy as with a stick/pad - the difference being that it is so much more satisfying.

The steering of the wheel just feels overly sensitive compared to the pad which is spot on. I honestly hate the thing. Its only included so your grandparents can play along.

how does it work using the nunchuk? cant see what thats used for tbh lol

Z shoot
A go
B jump
tilt wiimote up = wheelie
tilt wiimote down = stop wheelie
shake remote = trick

Agreed. There seemed to be a delay in the steering too, which I suppose you won't notice unless doing time trials.

We should arrange a time and date to play.

what's everyone's favourite kart/character?

7583 online... there's absolutely no competition :(

If hosting an event thing via the MK channel, do you need to have everyones friend codes?

Was going to get this on launch day but have been let down by SOO MANY Wii games I thought i'd wait although should have known better with it being 1st party.

Picked this up today.

Never played had any of the others. I was more of a Diddy Kong Racing person when i had my N64. Never had a gamecube.

Enjoying it but the graphics seem a bit under par, i know it's more about gameplay, maybe i have been spoiled by Smash Brothers Brawl...

I've just spent half an hour online, great fun! First time I've played this, apart from playing Double Dash on the Gamecube for a few hours, years ago. I love the online, works seamlessly, was really impressed - just need to learn the tracks....and how to steer...and everything else!! :D

Just been playing this online, getting on quite well with it. I quite like the wheel, the steering obviously feels quite natural. I can turbo with it fairly well. I've not tried the nunchuk yet, so I'll have to give that a go tomorrow.

I can understand Kreeee's complaints about it being very item based... On some tracks with a lot of people you can end up with bananas and shells spammed everywhere. I also think the spin-outs are a bit harsh - getting hit by a Bullet Bill takes ages to recover from. God help you if you get hit by multiple items in a row - you can go from first to last in moments and there's nothing you can do about it.

Damn, I was fearing that would be the case. Being punished for having the lead in a race from the beginning. You may as well slow down to remain in 2nd or 3rd close behind to take the win at the end while they are being bashed.

I think after the N64 version it became too much about powerful items. It wouldn't be so bad if there was only a small chance of getting something big but if you're behind, on every game since that one you seem to get all the help possible.
