Opinions on this first gaming PC build

So overall is this ok? I'm still not sure if the 2700x is too much, I just think if I'm not going to upgrade my CPU for a few years it's probably the better choice? Also, I was thinking of just leaving Windows 10 unactivated for now.

Is the 2700x bundle on the x370, not a better deal?

Buildzoid reckons the x370 is the better board (slightly worse vrm heatsinks, better phases and pcb), seems like the only thing it doesn't have is storeMI, which you may be intending to use I guess. Everything else seems to be bios based.

x370 aorus k7 was flagship vs entry X470 board. even if Ultra has same matching phase count, naturally IR would be better in a flagship then entry model.
can see why it pays off to have a flagship board with CPUs and ryzen, will stand better offer against budget/mid entry next gen boards

will be interetsing to see z490 boards as z390 will only be high end tier (currently)

The bundle comes to £1416.28 however my build is £1370.72. I guess the bundle has better RAM, however I don't think it's needed?

Would you say for the extra money the bundle is worth it? It's just once I add on keyboard, etc. it adds up.

I'm in the same boat with it adding up, but the bundle also includes a 480gb SSD, so you wouldn't need the 250gb you have listed (admittedly, the 250gb is a bit faster, but obviously half the size...). Your CPU, MB, Ram and SSD, according to part picker uk, is £605.40. The bundle using 3000mhz ram, is £584.96, so is actually saving you £20. You could even use that £20 to go towards a 120gb ssd (better quality than the bundle one) for OS and key software?

I cut out the SSD in my prices. Thanks, I didn't realise you could change the amount of RAM but can see it now! So the bundle comes to £1363.23 compared to my £1370.72. Would you say the bundle offers a better motherboard and RAM? I know it doesn't really matter but the Patriot RAM was on the QVL for the motherboard I selected. However the Team RAM isn't on the QVL for the motherboard bundle.

I have to assume that Overclockers aren't selling incompatible ram, that's pretty much my thought on it anyway, and I intend to buy the bundle (potentially with the 3200mhz ram though. The QVL list does state they don't cover every model of compatible ram.

From the research I've done (watching buildzoids youtube channel, at least what I understand), the x370 motherboard is better. However, one feature you may be looking into, is the StoreMI which is not available on the x370. StoreMI is when you link an SSD to a normal platter harddrive, and it acts as though it's a hybrid drive. In this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4vKun2zk6M&t=335s buildzoid states the x370 k7 is better than the x470 ultra gaming (in the comments).

Basically if you want StoreMI, you need the newer motherboard, but otherwise the bundle motherboard seems to be better.

flagship boards tend to be better then entry next gen boards. now the x370 Aorus K7 and X470 Aorus 7 are in different leagues , I can push 3600+ on the A7 with samsung b-die and 3400 with the ultra. K7 users can hit 3600hz i believe as well with B-die , but the A7 will handle future chips better

I think if the X470 will handle future chips better it will be better for me in the long term?

Although the bundle is £7 cheaper overall. Which one would you go for @orbitalwalsh ?

ultra should do you well as well. board should be designed to handle Zen2 chips and hopefully its better ram support. and then x570 will better etc . until 2020 when DDR5 will roll out . Interesting how AMD handle that as thats when zen2+ is due to be released ( but another story )

I think orbitalwash is talking about the flagship x470, not the gaming ultra that you're looking into. Ram support seems to be largely bios based as well?

Are you likely to be getting 4000mhz ram in the future? I think DDR5 will be the next big step, and I suspect they'll release another zen motherboard that supports it (as well as being am4 compatible throughout).

sorry, i'd take which one give you the most for less haha . Ultra would edge slightly in terms of board quality , but X470 would receive more support.

480 GB over 250gb is a nice addition, specially when you first format up to 10GB will be gone

memory controller on CPU - not sure how much of a change it would need . AMD marketing are smart. new socket type

@Beth wondering if X370 bundle will allow you to move o 8 Pack 3200 for same cash/break even

x470 would let your just run the 2700X as it see's fit etc

The bundle with 3200 is £1386 so £16 more, but this isn't including Windows or keyboard/mouse.

If the x470 would let the 2700x run as it see's fit would it be better? I don't know much so just want one with an easy BIOS to set up. Do I have to do the parts shown in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbpqkiaO7q4 for example set it to XMP, etc.

I don't really want to get into overclocking as I wouldn't know where to start! This may be a stupid question but do you have to enable XFR2 and what does it do?

Auto clocks it's self depending on the workload etc .
Can reach high clock speeds on 2 cores (4.2-3) with average of 4ghz on all cores .
I just set manual overclock to 4.1/2 for all cores no matter the load . With streaming you want everything constant !

Ngl a lot of this doesn't make sense to me. I think I'm just going to go with my build instead of the bundle as the Patriot RAM is on the QVL.
