Opteron 165 overclocks

seller said:
you said I sent you a different chip? I sent you the 165 AMD Opteron dual core. I still have the reciept where I purchase the item and I only sold two of these on ebay, I don't sell any other cpu. Let me know what you have. Sorry for the inconvenience I missunderstood your email.
He is either a noob or he is acting like one

Ahh I never noticed you had got some new HZ that should run at 250.

If I remember right your motherboard at issues with earlier bios's. 0211 ?
Bios 0404 is supposed to fix a lot of niggles.

TRy your ram running at 2T instead of 1T.

Im using 0404 now. when I get home Ill see how memtest has run (I ran memtest for 1 1/2 hrs this morning, its still running) Tonight I shall re flash the bios, and re install windows.

Well I got a $150 refund from the guy so ill give this chip some abuse and see how it goes its now only cost me £155 so if i get 2.6ghz I will be happy

Nice result sgoaty, if it turns out to be a hopeless overclocker you should get £155 for it easily so you can just start again :)

Incidentally, can I ask those of you with good overclocks on DFI boards what PSUs you're using? I've got an old Enermax EG465 here which may well not cut it with the new CPU and board. I was thinking of getting a newer Enermax, possibly a Liberty, as I've always had good experiences with them but I thought I'd canvas opinion first.

Was my paltry 2.6 considered good? I will tell you about my psu anyway 460w Akasa paxpower.

On a DFI mobo? I've ready a few tales of woe with this combo.
You wont have any trouble with this combo. I think that was with the older version before the liberty series. I also have the same setup and its fine. ;)

Well I did a 15 hour run of prime with my CCBWE 0604 TPMW at 2.6ghz at 1.475v in the bios but reading 1.424v from the sensor thats what i ran my old chip at too. I am priming it at 1.45v in the bios reading 1.392 its been going for 3.5 hours so this chip may actually be a little better than my old one :D

It's not all bad then eh? Keep up the good work dude! ;)

Well my CCBBE 0910DPMW '904' has finally arrived, along with £30 of customs charges and a £13.50 handling fee from Parcelfarce, the robbing *****

Just need a motherboard and graphics card now.

Your not alone there m8, I had to pay charges too. It was my own fault though and the person who sent it did give me the option of declaring the full value (so it's insured) or to chance it with a very small value (and no insurance). I took the safe option, although next time I think I will just take a chance. ;)

Let us know how your chip clocks dude!

Yeah I did exactly the same and decided to play it safe as I couldn't face the possibility of it going missing and losing everything.

Came to about £230 in total so not too bad. I'm currently on S478 still but won a PCI-E graphics card a couple of weeks back which prompted my upgrade. I've not received the card yet and so won't be buying the mobo and completing the upgrade until it does as I'm £230 out of pocket already. Hope this thing doesn't take too long to show up. Think I'm gonna go for the DFI SLI-D board as it gives me the option of SLI at some future point which is a possibility but I don't need all the bells and whistles of the Expert.

Could some of you experts please give me a bit of advice about overclocking.

I have read some documentation online already but I'd prefer (as I'm a bit slow) for someone to just post exactly what settings I should change in the BIOS to achieve a particular speed, I can then have a play and gain a bit more understanding.

My kit is as follows

Opteron UP 165 Dual Core 1.8GHz
2GB G.Skill HZ DDR PC4000
DFI NF4 Ultra-D
Seasonic 600W PSU
Arctic Freezer 64 Pro
As my Multiplier is 9x I have already upped the FSB from 200 to 250 (as my RAM can take it) and so I'm currently at 2.2, but I'm not sure how to proceed from there.
