**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I am sometimes, the only person I really speak to is Cigo and other than that, no one talks etc.. so I just soldier on, on my own or join sc2improve for customs.

ah fair enough, i've not been on for so long i dont even know who's hanging around any more :p

My ass only has one exit and still does Sheep.

All I can reply to your longass post is....

MAN THE **** UP SISSY AND PLAY THE DAMN GAME AND STOP QQ'ING WHEN YOU LOSE.

unless its TvP cos that's broken as ****

AND unranked matchmaking is a stupid idea because ladder really doesn't mean anything in the first place. These People just want epeen.

Well aside from the fact I disagree with you, you still haven't explained why unranked matchmaking is a bad addition. You've stated your opinion that it is unnecessary but haven't explained why it is actively bad.

If there are no negatives to adding it into the game then even if there no positives (which IMO there are many but obviously you disagree) you have no way to justify your extremely negative reaction to it.

Basically what you have said so far could be summarised "I won't use the unranked ladder because I'm a man and don't mind losing points. I don't care if lots of other people want it and would be encouraged to play the game if it were added. Even though the addition of the unranked ladder would be positive for them, and neutral for me, it is a terrible idea and should not be added to the game". Do you not see how stupid this view is?

Your idea about there being more players = more community = larger esports scene is extremely wrong.
There are loads of people who haven't even ever played Starcraft that watch it regularly.

Firstly that's a strawman argument. Secondly it's blatantly obvious that more people playing the games potentially means larger esports scene. I'm not saying there aren't other ways to grow the scene (such as drawing in people that dont play the game). Your arguments don't logically follow on from each other. You state something then state a conclusion which is not a logical consequence of your premises.

(sorry, I did a logic course this semester at uni so i had to get some kind of use out of it before i forget it all :D)

I could equivalently say "more british citizens means that there are more people living in britain". Would you then reply "that's extremely wrong. There are loads of people living in britain who aren't british citizens"? It's not a valid counterargument. You could say "it's not NECESSARILY right" but you can't say it's wrong.

Dammit Sheep, I knew we couldn't agree for long.

Ok here goes....

Unranked matchmaking is bad because you're splitting the community up even more so than it is now. At the moment we have...

People who play Ladder
People who refuse to play due to not wanting to lose
People who refuse to play ladder so they play custom games
People who've just outright quit because they can't take the pressure

Now we're adding a fifth section with people who play unranked matchmaking. Why does it matter? Unless you can choose your matchup then it wouldn't be any easier than just looking for someone in the community to practice with which is actually a lot more effective as it grows friendships which is ultimately what SC2 fails in, it's a very lonely game.

And onto the second point...

The majority of people who play Starcraft2 actually have no idea about the professional scene, it's the same with most games that have one. The majority are people who just play for fun while the minority are the ones who follow professional gaming.
While more people playing creates a potential for there to be a bigger community it doesn't have to lead to a bigger esports scene.

IMO what will lead to a bigger esports scene is more exposure. There was a thread on TeamLiquid a while back from one of the casters in the community asking what people thought was the next natural step for Esports (Not just SC2 based) was.
Most people said a TV channel or show and that's probably a great start but TV isn't that great anymore, I know plenty of people who haven't watched a TV in years (myself included). I'd like to see more free to attend events partnered with a more mainstream scene to allow them to benefit from eachother.

(That last part was just everywhere lol)

Would this "fifth section" not go a long way to actually wiping out the previous three? Or at least two of them.

Not really because if you don't like losing and you lose in unranked matchmaking you're going to throw your toys out the pram still.

It's pathetic that people stop playing because of a few points lost.

Hi all,

How have you got your keyboard shortcuts set up? Do you have defaults or grid patterns etc? I feel mine need to change but want to know your experiences on what you found the best for you

Mine are all standard. I'm pretty sure that's how the pros play also so if it's alright for them then it's good enough for my ****** play.

I know some people who use Darkgrid but I won't bother learning it because it's not logically better.

Standard all the way for me, it's how I've practiced since beta. I did have a go with grid on recommendation from a few people but frankly it wasnt worth relearning the structure when i already had the default setup instinctive in my head :p

Honestly my opinion is just pick one and stick with it. :) Not seen anything which is fundamentally better than standard setup so just go with what you like.

Dammit Sheep, I knew we couldn't agree for long.

snip

I agree about the need to expand the scene but adding players to the game itself is certainly not going to hurt the esports scene. Worst case scenario it adds 0 followers that's still not a loss.

Regarding "splitting the pool" I have done some thinking on the matter. If Blizzard does split the pool then I agree with you 100% it's a terrible idea. But I don't think they will. Here is a thread I made on Bnet outlining how I would implement the unranked ladder (and also what I predict Blizzard will do since it's the most logical way): http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3980428220?page=1 unfortunately the thread has been filled with absolute retards who don't have any understanding of how the different approaches to the unranked system would work. The OP is the only post worth reading in that thread.

Hi all,

I use a completely custom setup. My pinky rests on left shift and my other 3 fingers rest on ASD while my thumb rests on space. I've remapped control groups to CFREW4321. W is all my production, E is my command centres/orbitals and the rest are my army hotkeys although I never really use the ones above R. Space is mapped to TAB so I can easily cycle through my production. A is attack move and X is hold position (for stutter stepping). Units main abilities (stim, EMP, siege mode, build basic and advanced structures) are all mapped to S and D. I use the keys Q\ZX for secondary abilities (snipe, repair, cloak etc) and VBG for the really rare ones (cancel, nuke). I have camera saves layered under the Alt key (like in darkgrid).

I'ts a ridiculously effective and efficient setup. 90% of my macro actions occur on the WEASD keys and 99% of micro uses just ASDFXC. I created the layout myself with inspiration from this thread which I would highly recommend reading http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=326424, darkgrid and my own ideas.

When I first played the game I used standard hotkeys but I hated how illogical they are (based on spelling of names rather than position of key = fail). I switched to grid which was better, but still pretty rubbish. For example 1 for select army, Z for stim and T for attack move is a horrible combination to press.

So I decided to create my own setup which was suited to what was comfortable for my hand and with the aim of minimising motion. I created it about a month ago and switching was pretty brutal at first but it doesn't take too long to get used to. I think after a total of 50 games with it I'll be completely accustomed to it.

Are there any macro G-15 keyboard mods to use with this game that anyone knows of?

To add to what Kamwah said, there really aren't any useful macros you can create for SC2 anyway so it's a waste of time.

When I used a G110 I used to have the following mapped to a macro:

Enter
TAB
"gl hf"
Enter
Build SCV
Ctrl + 4
Ctrl + F1

Basically my game start would be: Lclick CC, press macro key, right click minerals. within less than a second I'd assigned my CC to a control group, said glhf and sent my workers to mine.

I couldn't really think of anything else you can assign to macros which is genuinely useful. Injecting could be partially macroed but you still need to click on each individual hatchery.

IMO it's not worth the bother and will just make people think you are a noob. Also Blizz doesnt approve but I doubt they'd catch you

OMG I can't stop laughing at my last game.

So I was playing on my diamond Z account and I get put up against a Masters. I was generally polite at the start and said "GLHF Offracing, don't hurt me" and he replies with "STFU and play"

So I did play... I went Stephano style 3 hatch before gas and maxed at 12mins with Roaches with +1 attack.

RAPED! XD

He goes "WTF" and leaves.

lol sweet justice. Most satisfying thing ever is winning vs BM.

I had one game which started with "**** you noob" in response to my gl hf. The guy cycled through just about every form of cheese imaginable in the TvT matchup and did quite a bit of damage. He offensively gg'ed about 4 times but i just ignored it.

After a while of us both macroing we had a fairly large engagement again in the centre. I killed his army narrowly and he said "gg". I though ok he's actually developed some manners so I said gg back. After about 30 secs I start to wonder why he hasn't quit and it's at this point he says "you can leave now".

I rofled and said "you have to be joking" to which he replied "noob". He then did the usual lift off into the corner to waste my time.

So many utter idiots in this game. It seems to bring out the worst in a lot of people and the best in others.

Thought as much. Though my fingers are only really able to stretch to the 1-6 keys so I guess I'll use them as the control groups I can't reach.

Do you guys ever get "GG for you now" as they're attacking, then they lose? I find that pretty funny, as they always try and turn it around and pretend it was them saying 'GG I knew I was gonna lose'
