**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

It's not a big deal. While there are basics you'll need to learn if you've never played an RTS properly before a lot of the game will change when HotS gets released due to the new units.

I'v played lots of rts games.

What attracts me to Star Craft 2, is that it looks so much like Red Alert 2 and the CNC games.

You'd think that but it's quite a bit different, definitely has a more competitive feeling to it even just playing Multiplayer.
I've played all of the CnCs up to Generals and they're some of the best RTS games ever =D

hi all,

Just looking for some people to add to help me finally get out of silver. I feel I play better than the majority of people I play but make stupid mistakes that put me miles behind my opponents.

Character code is Slinkie 660.

I hate facing mech in zvt, I don't really know exactly what I'm doing against it and I usually scout it too late and don't find out the composition until it's too late. Seems with the queen upgrade more terrans are going mech.

Have to have really good control to go bio or biomech in TvZ due to that creep spread that never receedes. Best way to deal with a meshing Terran is to go with roach drops in the main and take out production.

Mutas also work but you need to go 2base muta so they get there at the point when theres only 1 Thor or none. If you then proceed to kill off tech labs and armories the Terran can never get a Thor out and unupgraded marines off of 1rax won't harm you.

You can also just expand like a madman on bigger maps with a few spines on each base I stop hellion runbys. That's only if you feel comfortable engaging a mech army tho. 15-16min hive tech is good XD

aye yes roach drops, need to start practising that xd. I'd also not gone muta in zvt for a long time now. I've been trying to expand everywhere especially when I scout they're amassing a giant thor/hellion/tank army and build up a lot of broodlords.

Concerning creepspread in tvz why don't terran make an early raven, maybe after getting a banshee and keeping it with their medivac cluster instead of using so many scans? If they don't get banshees just quick swap the buildings to build one then swap back?

Sorry I've never played terran :D

I'm still really bad at this game, but I have been practicing daily. Nearly out of the damnable bronze league, at least, I seem to be reliably beating most people in it. I love some of the weird builds you get with bronze league players - I played against someone yesterday who covered the entire map with planetary fortresses before building a single unit. Every single base. Still, I'm beating some silver league players now, so I guess I'm on my way out.

I always lose against Zerg, though (playing Protoss). They send lots of Zerglings at me, which I don't really know how to react to, then finish me off with Mutalisks or Broodlords. I'm not sure how to deal with the Zerglings at all since they seem to eliminate Protoss infantry very quickly unless you get a really good engagement and I have no clue how to effectively counter the Mutas/Broodlords without dying quickly to the Zerglings.

Any ideas as to what I should be doing when I scout the Zerglings?

Zerglings are easy to kill, but it just depends on what you are doing, if you are FFE'ing then you shouldnt lose to lings ever, but seeing as you're bronze i doubt you are, just get 6 sentrys and zealots, if muta come get stalker and blink and high templar, cannons behind your mineral lines with 2 templar there and you will be fine.

Slinkie and Daichin I was in the same position recently. I only bought the game a few months ago and started in bronze, moved into silver and now I've just got into gold. Playing regular helps. Though I only play a few games a week, so progress is slow for me :D

I got 5 pooled yesterday and instantly built a photon cannon in my mineral line. The guy was a master in all brackets and silver in 1v1 =/

That only worked if you build a forge first, You should always build a pylon and gateway/forge at your ramp vs zerg so you can quickly block a early zerling attack. Then chronoboost units out and build more gateways near your nexus. Is what I do and sometimes works.

Vs zerglings in the lategame stalkers and immortals are terrible vs them, but zealots with charge are very good as well as lots of colossus. Going colossos though you should have stalkers and perhaps high templar with storm to deal with corruptors and blords. Always try and get a stargate/fbeacon when you're nearing a good army number 150+ so you can get a mothership out, warp HT into archons and thats usually a good way of dealing with mass blords. I only deal with mas blords that way rarely though, I'll try and kill them with blink stalkers first, since waiting for a mothership usually means zerg has time to get a silly amount of blords out if they don't attack.

post a replay up, I'm assuming you're blocking off your main or natural to stop zergling run bys. Forcefields are great against lings. Blink stalkers and storm are good for mutas. Broodlords in bronze league should take a very long time until you see them, use blink stalkers, archons, mothership to counter them.

6/10 Supply was when the spawning pool went down, the build order in match history just records it as 5/10 because Zerg use drones to build tech.

Broodwar however, they started with 5 drones instead of 6.
