**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Well in the few times I've seen this I was going blue flame opening off of a gas first and I still didn't have enough gas to get a siege tank and siege by the time it hit =/ and going really fast siege tank puts you way behind -_-

Zerg OP XD

Played my first placement match since January, my god I suck hard.

I hit Gold leagues a few months ago, struggling getting off the ground now. I just feel so sluggish.

I feel your pain, I didn't play for just over 24hours and lost like 3games in a row T_T

Game has changed quite a bit since January aswell. Not just with the patch, metagame has changed.

Yeah... I don't bother with hellions anymore. Just do CC first mass marine (like the replay I posted a week or so ago). It loses to a few things but generally is very successful. Gets the game over and done with reasonably fast too so I don't have to bother trying futiley to defeat zerg late game.

It's funny I used to hate TvT but now I love them cos they're so much easier than the other matchups.

There's a strategy post on the TL forums called the 12-14-18rax which is supposedly really good. All the zergs rape it in my league and I dislike bio cos it just takes one mistake and you're dead.

O well XD

Just looked back at my match history from the past 2 weeks. Prior to this, I had a month long break where I didn't play at all, so that was before the recent patches and metagame shift.

TvT 4-0
TvZ 4-0
TvP 2-6

I just don't understand how to beat protoss. I gather that I am supposed to do early damage etc but everything I've tried seems to be quite easily defended, and ends up damaging me more than the enemy. Gonna revert to the good ol' 111 SCV all-in methinks, much as it pains me to do so.

O the days when TvZ wasn't uphill!

I still have the worst trouble with Protoss. Some of my friends in Masters/GM are there struggling with Zerg and I'm like "lol still above 75% winrate vZ but like a less than 50% winrate vP" >.<

BTW Sheep, you should download the TSL4 Korean Qualifier replays (They've released all of them from the four quals they've had so far which is over 200 replays each qual) some great games in there to learn from.

How about the old 2 rax (1 reactor 1 tech) opening push with 5 marines and 1 maurader with concuss at about 5.30? I find that does OK early damage punishing the greediest P openings, then u transition into standard 3-5 rax reactor starport play. It also gives you a chance to win straight up if they make a mistake or two and it's the only thing that kept my vP anywhere near 50%.

Wanna punch whoever thought it would be cool to have a suicide unit in SC2.

If you are referring to banelings, then they play a vital part in the zerg army. Clearly too powerful to leave as a unit that can attack multiple times, but likewise quite an expense on a unit that doesn't regenerate.

Yep Banelings -_-

Hate them damn things. Worse than fungals and maybe even storm.

Lulwut.

If you're going mech then focus them with tanks, if you're going bio then stim, run back, then select only your marines and stutter step them backwards while target firing the banelings (leaving the marauders to soak them). Then split if necessary. Surely you already know this in masters?

Storm and fungal are both far harder to deal with than banelings.

Can you recommend some specific games? Especially TvP if there are good ones. Don't have a lot of time to watch loads of games as I need to get stuck into revision :(

I haven't got round to looking into too many of them yet but let me look into the bracket of the most recent qualifier and I'll suggest a few.

Just watching the GSTL and it makes me just want to quit. Zerg is so damn OP. Coca didn't even play that well against Marineking and he wins cos of the OP fungals and banelings.

TSL4 Qualifier 12 - 4th Korean.

I watched the finals aswell and they was some good games. Taeja Vs Genius.

Ro16 - Gumiho vs First
Ro16 - Taeja vs Finale
Ro32 - Maru vs Inori

Don't forget IPL Fight Club. There are a bunch of great matches in that if you search through the weeks for the TvPs with Taeja,Polt and MKP.

How am I supposed to deal with this? (proxy 2 gate)

My plan was to go 11 11 rax and bring SCVs but before i got that far he threw up 2 gates in my base. I figured i'd just lift off to the protected expo behind the rocks, meanwhile destroying his mineral line with marines from my proxy but it didn't work. What should I have done instead? Bunker and tech to banshees?

I've been kinda raping recently, facing masters people now for the first time in months since I stopped playing so much. Don't think I can devote enough time to get promoted but it's nice to know I'm reasonably close

Bunker in/near your mineral line and always do the first rax at your main ramp (never your natural cos it's just a telltale sign) then repair.
