**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

I did watch Apollos Zerg Bronze to Platinum series, which was very enjoyable. He did seem to focus on macro a lot, and unit selection (was great) but not a lot on micro which is where I feel I really need to improve.

Any youtube vids you would recommend on unit control?

Ive been doing mainly 3v3s to get used to the game before delving into 1v1s, so I dont have any replays to post unfortunately.

I don't know any particular videos but do a search and they'll be many. I highly recommend spending a few hours reading through a comprehensive guide on TL, just search TL zerg guide on google. Post up a 3v3 replay since we just need to see what you're doing.

Be more specific than micro or give a few examples and I'll give you a few pointers.

Zerg itself isn't very micro-oriented. It's very positional and macro oriented.

That's the reason Apollo doesn't mention anything on it and his is probably the most recent. Day[9] may have dabbled into it during multiple Newbie Tuesdays or in general during his mechanical dailys (which are also quite old). As for guides on TL I wouldn't take them to heart because the game has changed so much since the start of 2012 that it's barely recognizable. For example Terran used to be known for turtling, now Protoss is the turtler.

As zerg, the only things you actually need to micro are mutaslisks and infestors - make sure your mutas stay away from groups of marines, and dont clump up near thors. That's about it.

The rest of the "micro" is more about positioning your units pre-battle then a-moving. For example, setting up a flank with a group of zerglings, and having them attack at the same time as a group of lings and banes from the front, will give you an instant surround and stop the enemy retreating from the banes. Things like that.

You've picked the best race if your micro is bad :)

Oh, the only other thing you need to do is when you have large numbers of roaches, stutter step in to make sure they are all firing (they have short range), and if you get the chance, focus fire enemy immortals.

Watching the OSL Sheep? It's better than that MLG scrubtacular event you was watching yesterday =P

Marineking and MC playing today (in two separate groups)

Marineking just lost to IdrA...

I'm not going to bother watching IPL anymore. They don't even take it seriously. Trying to 2rax a Zerg in this metagame when queens and a spine crawler can repel it alone? So retarded.

You can have the best unit control in the world, but if you don't know what to do with that control it won't get you far. Micro is just decision making on the smallest level, if you focus on making good decisions, and the control will come with it over time with practice.

Also, if you're in Plat or below, which by the sounds of it you probably are, focus on macro. If you macro better than people in bronze/silver/gold you can just mass an army and A-Move with no micro at all, because you'll just have more stuff than them. Plus if you're concentrating on micro in <Plat, your macro is almost certainly slipping.

Idra too good for mkp I'm afraid :D
MKP probably knew how terrible idra is so thought he could get away with it. Just underestimated him a little

Makes me want to fly to Korea and slap him with a 2x4

That's a myth which was true back in like 2010. Belonging to three teams which have Bronzes-Masters I can tell you that not every low league player is a clueless mess.
You should be focused on your Macro anyway. Most Zergs come out on top with positional advantages and the ability to remax quickly.

I should change it to 'most people in bronze' etc. Sure not everyone is completely clueless, but for the most part they are there because their fundamentals are lacking.

Maybe a more correct statement would be; If you're in bronze/silver/gold focusing on fundamentals over extreme unit control will be more beneficial, or something like that, as some basic stutterstep/not letting your muta sit there and tank is pretty important. Letting your macro slip because you're were trying to pull off the sickest control ever is probably -EV.

Agreed. Unless you play Protoss then you need sick A-move micro to win games <3
