**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Played first games of S2 this weekend. Lost my one placement game and got put in gold, whats up with that. Lost because I forgot to change from Random to Terran..and got Zerg, which I've never played before ^^

Then played 6 1v1's and lost all. I am so terrible at this game it's unreal ^^

Lost about a dozen in a row my first time, over a year and hundreds of hours ago now (began in the beta). Stick with it, learn from every last little mistake, get better with hotkeys etc. and you'll rise eventually.

I've not played in a while. Don't have a single game on ladder since the reset... am probably so rusty that I'd get knocked out of Gold (play random, so maybe could be higher league if I stuck with one race and had more free time) if I jumped right back in, so I'll have to build-up watching replays etc. :o

what on earth is going on with the placement system at the moment? is it bugged?
people getting put into gold who dont belong there, then you have people struggling to get out of silver and plat who dont belong there.

wish blizzard would sort this mess out. MMR's gone out the window?

The placement system is hard because u might lose 1 low game. I've been sat at 3rd in bronze for a week now. and still stuck in bronze but I keep winning. I'm beating most only thing i've lose to is a 6pool and some marine + scv rushes.

Keep at it. I was bronze 1 for about 2 weeks. Once it pairs you with mid-high ranked Silvers regularly (maybe even a gold here or there), if you keep winning you'll get promoted soon.

Within 1 week of being promoted to silver I was then up to gold.

It's frustrating but when your MMR sorts itself out the match-ups get better.

It's difficult to place someone accurately without a lot of games, with only 5 games its easy to get skewed. Recently I've had a few people d/c or quit at the start (seemingly to get their rank lower for whatever reason). So if a new player gets a quiter from gold/plat then the system presumes they won, etc etc.

As for promotions I think they just account for form and don't want people changing league every time they have a few lucky loses or wins. Before I got promoted to silver I'd beat 4 silvers in a row and thought jokingly I wonder if you need to beat 5, and after beating the next silver player I got promoted... whether it was the reason I'll never know!

My cousin stopped playing so gave me his acount.. played pure Terran and I've gotten higher in Diamond than I do with my Zerg, yet have no idea what im doing.. says it all :p

tis true, didn't realise untill last night. Will post you screenies when im home if you like :)

Really? When I tried to play terran (My main race is protoss), I was terrible at it... I found zerg far easier to adapt to. The conclusion most people come to is that the races are pretty close to balanced

3v3 team I play with used to be low gold rank. We played 1 placement which we lost in 5 mins and we then got placed Platinum. First game we're up against Master league players.

Hard to have fun / learn anything when you lose in 5 mins.

Terran is easy, just keep hitting the a key until you win!

Reminds me of this:

^ Don't get it?

Going to try playing some games now if anyone is on and wants to help me with some practice :)

You could always try a all in with terran to see if I can defend it

However grossly inaccurate and outdated (I didn't make it), it's just a joke on how the races are/were childishly stereotyped in the community....well, the lower-skilled, less-relevant areas (i.e. Bnet and Teamliquid forums).

most people would actually disagree with that.
sc2 is quickly turning into a game about who can cheese the most first, cheese is strong in this game - and theres a great many pros who agree and want the pace to slow down

Macro play is getting there, but blizzard seriously need to pull their fingers out of their ass and make some changes before it realistically becomes a key part of the metagame, however id expect we will have to wait for the big changes HOTS brings before we see anything on this front.

1A?Have you ever played Terran? The amount of micro required in battles is huge.

Why everyone here thinks that Terran is overpowered?Terran was OP when SC2 came out but every patch since then was nerfing T and buffing P and Z.The game is almost perfectly balanced imho, so stop complaining and enjoy it.

Looks like you edited your post, you changed your mind?

I find the game is very balanced. Sure MASS units is a royal pain especially top-tech units but some good micro can stave off any cheese (remember, scout, scout SCOUT! not just their base but yours).

Just learn to strike early and hard and always expand around the 10-15min mark (or go early expansion like i do most of the time, pays off big time).
