Oscar Pistorius thread

Even if his account of what happened is true, he is just incredibly stupid.

He was in the bedroom when he heard the "intruder", the bedroom where Reeva was supposed to be sleeping.

I am just finding it hard in my mind to follow his thought process. He comes in from OUTSIDE on the balcony into the bedroom. Before he left, he knew Reeva was in bed. He is then in the bedroom after coming in from the balcony and hears a noise from down the hallway. The absolute first thing that should cross your mind is the fact that whilst you were outside, your partner might have got up and gone to the loo. You therefore check the bed (which is presumbly right next to him at this point as he just came in from the balcony)

He is either a murderer or just insanely stupid.

Death by Dangerous Driving though is reckless but the intention isn't to kill.

The Prosecution here are arguing that Oscar fired four shots at somebody through a door, that wasn't a warning, that was intent to kill, regardless of who was behind the door.

Well, yes when you put it like that, it is even worse.

I just think it was incredibly reckless of him to not check Reeva was in the bed when he was in the bedroom upon coming back from the balcony and hearing the noise.

I'm just finding it hard to get my head around why you would not do this

Having lived in SA for quite a while I think I have a good enough understanding about crime in the area specially in Pretoria seeing as I have family living there anyway.

Yeah yeah, we get it, Pretoria is dangerous, this is basically the underlying defence case. It's so dangerous, you completely ignore anyone living in the same room as you and immediately assume any noise is an intruder.

She must have had great ass control, if she farted once she'd already be shot dead by the ultra paranoid OP.

We'll never know if his story is true, but he can't be convicted by a country as inept as South Africa. The defence team will likely get him off without even trying.

I think that you have to really abandon any form of logic to make his version of events even remotely possible, and I just don't buy it. Not one bit.

Hopefully he won't lose his temper and murder anyone else in future. :o

Putting aside his story and the prosecution for a moment, given that he has admitted killing her, what is the minimum sentence he can expect? anyone know SA law?

UK law you would be doing time, and the case would just be deciding how much, is SA law much different? is there a chance he could walk free?

He will walk free.

He was in the same room as her when he heard the noise that he thought was an intruder. I cannot fathom any reason why he wouldnt have checked that Reeva was still in the room in bed at this point.

Same reason as the last case in SA. Why would you not check your daughter was in the house if the car drove away before shooting at the driver?

He will walk free.

He may not. Depends on whether the prosecution decides to press manslaughter charges, or let him go on humanitarian grounds. At the moment they're still going with premeditated murder even if he didn't know it was her, they're arguing he still intentionally murdered the intruder.

He apparently grabbed the gun from under the bed. I'm sorry but I don't believe he thought she was in bed at all. Oh but he was too scared to turn the light on so he didn't see her, there must be no moon in SA .

If he shouted for her to call the police, wouldn't he think it was a bit strange she didn't answer when he thought she was in bed right next to where he was getting the gun? Nothing adds up at all, but he will no doubt go free with his expensive legal team :(.

Everything is pathetic in this case. The tragic death, the media circus, the corrupt legal system is SA and the dreadful reasoning/excuses.

Worst still is the seemingly global bias in favour of the amazing Mr. Pistorius. Even the BBC can't help themselves, quoting his accomplishments at the end of every news report on their mobile site.

I risk sounding bitter, I know - but all the focus seems to be what a great guy he is with little sentiment towards his victim's family.

If he shouted at her on his way to the bathroom as he states, obviously his focus would be on the supposed intruder. If he already believed Reeva was in bed then a lack of response would not mean he'd suddenly think she wasn't there. He might have just thought she hadn't woken up or maybe he thought she was phoning the Police. But I don't think he'd have had time to consider it much.

so who here if they heard a burglar would go looking for them in the pitch black dark without first making sure their loved ones where ok ? not me

his story of events just seem like madness to me but are certainly still plausible . past storys of his anger aren't doing him any favours
