Overclockers Shop accounts?

I would like an account system on OcUK, but it is expensive and many people find it really annoying to log in and register especially if it is a one off order.

personally i think it would deter people. I like the fact that i dont have to sign up just to oder something trivial like a mouse or a cable.

Accounts would be a great idea, that way I wouldnt have to type the details in nth times.

They have a £4.75 delivery option for small, lower cost items, but for anything over a certain weight/amount then the extra insurance is needed, and I believe RM never satisfied in that department.

Insurance costs about 50 pence with RM so that cant be used as an excuse for charging £10. 1st Class hardly costs anything so I dont see why there isnt an option for that, small items I would class as 0.5kg or less and that costs just £1.90 so I dont know where the £4.75 figure comes from, but I certainly wouldnt pay that to post a 50 pence ide cable, even special delivery doesnt cost that much.

A well-implemented account system shouldn't deter customers at all. By that I mean letting people fill in all their information as normal, then allowing them to check a little box at the end of the order form if they want to set up an account for order history, tracking details and to avoid entering their details next time they place an order. What I wouldn't like to see is people sent to a static page (as many competitors do) with a blunt message telling them they need to register an account, go through email confirmation etc. before they can start adding items to their basket!

To post an 8cm fan costing £5, it costs £8, thats over £500 insurance, whats the point in paying more for postage than the item itself?

yeah i agree with the delivery thing.was going to buy some artic silver(costs £6.46) but it was approx £12 after adding delivery :p

For small items like fans and cables , MM is usually cheaper and probably no worse than buying new anyways

I can only say so much, without crossing the line of slandering OcUK. But I'll do my best.

OcUK need to offer more economic delivery options for small and light goods. The current £8 simply is simply not competitive. Recorded/Special delivery options would be adequate.

Accounts would be good. A certain competitor lets me save quotes - a feature I find very useful.

I feel they could get better software their website's shop. It's a bit of a pain to scroll down an extremely long list with pictures and descriptions of each product. I'd imagine a good bit of bandwidth is guzzled, too.

A clickable title and a price alongside is good. Click the title, and the main description can open in a small frame. Meaning not having to go click back and forward, either.

My 2p worth.

ocuk used to use a second class service for small items - no more as far as im aware

no accounts needs to stay - if you dont order regulary then you will eventually forget/misplace your account info and its a pain when you cant make a new 1 as your only allowed 1 address, happens to me all the time

i would love an account system, especially when it comes to tracking orders and RMA issues, both of which i seem to have problems with which i shall not discuss on these forums. i love the shop and the forums, but sometimes i'm having to put in a lot more effort than i have done with other retailers. if this message is inappropriate please delete.

ROLF who the **** is gona pay £6 odd delivery for a £3 IDE cable. :D

And thats been a problem of mine with overclockers for a while, postage costs. Mostly on samll items, like the bargain 1 gig memory pen. I wanted one but when the postage was added it wasn't anything like a bargain anymore.

So I'm left with the choice of waiting til I need more stuff or go elsewhere.

Once I found an item on overclockers that was £10 cheaper than all the competition. Postage came to £30. The next cheapest site was £10 dearer but £20 cheaper on postage.

Swings and roundabouts I know, but there are stacks of low price £10 and under components I have wanted at sometime or another in the last couple of years that Ive been not able to buy due to postage costs.

£5.25 (+VAT = £6.16) postage with City Link for a £3.46 IDE cable, RM is £6.95 + VAT (£8.17)

They took away 1st/2nd class as people were ordering items worth more than ~£30 on them that the insurance covers and then when the parcels went missing OcUK were paying out for them.

Personally I'd have liked to have seen RM 1st/2nd class stay but with a cap on the amount you could order with it, but I guess this wasn't an option.

This is an easy one,
if you were mr ocuk, and you had say 10 orders with 1 ide cable or similar item a week, would you be bothered to implement another shipping method for those few orders? it probbably causes too much hassle to have rm AND city AND something else, so just cut the ones that dont make much profit and arent worth it.

That search thing is impossible to use effectively.

forgive me if I'm wrong, but is this not shop-talk?
You're under the (common) misconception that shop talk in general is not permitted. Certain things are not allowed, for sure, but it's not a blanket ban.

basically no bad mouthing or questions about orders.

What would be good- and rather easy to implement would be to have the old system still in place, but with the option of creating an account (even if it only stores your address / credit details say). When you come to order you can fill in your details as usual or just key in your username/password which will automatically fill in all the form fields for you.

True but such a high postage may mean OcUK would lose potential customers.

I have to admit I'm one of those. Most things I order from competitors unless it's very urgent I'll just use the cheap delivery option of a couple of pounds and wait a few days longer. I order a lot of single items (for other people, usually) so don't want to get stung by high postage as it adds up.

I suspect that is pretty much the case - it probably takes as long to process and deal with a £2.50 order for an IDE cable as it does to deal with a £300 order for a videocard, and you can guess which one is more profitable.

I must admit there are times I really miss the cheap shipping (I keep getting tempted by one of the mice, but forgetting to add it to larger orders).
