Overspeeding...consequences?

Ha ha, take your Sat Nav on a plane and see your car doing 500mph. Unfortunately you have to be quick at taking a photo as the "car" jumps from road to road.

if we're being pedantic if you get caught at 78mph under ACPO guidelines you wouldnt get anything :p

You are allowed 10 % +1 mph. You get a ticket at 10 % + 2.
 
The limit has always been what is on the signpost.

The ACPO guidelines (and they are just that - guidelines, which dont have to be adhered to, especially if its a famous politician) have always stated that enforcement should start at 10 % + 2mph, thus allowing you a leeway of 10 % + 1mph.

the +3 is just people getting mixed up and passing it on the others wrongly etc..

one of the american stand ups made a very good sketch about the speed limit on our motorway

Obviously as a travelling tourist, its not immediately obvious what the speed limit on our motorway is. There aren o 70mph signs, just a motorway one at the slip road to signify the start of motorway rules.

So anyway he decides to do the speed that everybody else is doing as a "best guess" type of thing. So he does 80 + mph in the outside lane with everybody else.

And then he finds out the limit. 70. Precisely the speed everybody was not doing lol.
 
The only thing on the speeding course I didn't agree with was the fact that, on a motorway, where 95% of traffic is travelling at around 90mph - the safest place to be is in the fast lane doing 90mph

90% of fatal motorway accidents happen in the slow lane

a) slip roads cause traffic to enter and cross the slow lane
b) trucks in the slow lane
c) hard shoulder right next to slow lane
d) most road damage in slow lane

driving at 70mph in the slow lane in the UK is legal, suicidal and stupid
 
I was "caught" at 66mph in a 60
I requested all the camera paperwork and pictures etc.
They told me the 10% thing was pure fiction
The course also told me that the law recently changed and that accidentally killing/maiming people was now (correctly) treated as manslaughter and people had already gone to prison for it

For example: driver hits pedestrian driving at 30 mph in a 30 zone at 1900
Judge: why were you driving at the MAXIMUM SPEED allowed?
Idiot: it's the speed limit
Judge: it is the MAXIMUM SPEED limit - it only applies under PERFECT conditions (daylight, no rain, dry roads, driver is well rested, etc.)
Idiot: but it's the speed limit
Judge: obviously it wasn't a safe speed to be driving - somebody just died - PRISON

a) Move out when traffic is joining
b) Overtake trucks
c) Huh?
d) Watch out for big holes, etc, as you do on any other road

You do realise that if more people drove at 90 in the "fast" lane then more accidents would happen there, yeah?

You know your post tells a lot about your driving.
There is no "fast" or "slow" lane on a motorway.
There is Lane 1 and then there is an overtaking lane - the clue is in the name.

Although let's be fair; "fast lane" and "slow lane" are generally understood, if not strictly accurate, terms for the nearside and outside lanes.
