Overwatch

Placements seem pointless after playing for 15 seasons. I have had +200SR swings before doing placements though. I've never placed lower than where I finished the previous season. But I do only generally play tank and I can see if people switch roles a lot that they may see bigger differences.

Yeah you can jump up big amounts of sr on placements if you do well enough and it takes more into account than just win loss ratio. I know when I first played on my ult account it went up 300sr on placements so it obviously knew I was not a silver player. most times now though it is within a few matches of your old score. Back in like season 10 they used to drop you a few hundred sr just so you could work it back but thankfully they done away with that.

@Stu I think you under estimate how much difference the changes will make, reapers healing is dropping by 20% that is a big amount and make him much easier to kill, the mcree fan the hammer changes should make enough difference for brig to survive a stun and fan the hammer. I know from a brig point of view that makes both these characters much easier to deal with.

Changes of 10 percent can make big difference, a lot of the time it's difference between you dying and not dying, also with more damage you build ult faster and in a game like overwatch where one ult can wipe whole team it makes big difference.

I think torb junk sym mei soldier all needed a little something more as they were lacking behind.

Looks like they actually doing a decent job this patch!!! (although I dont like the lucio changes but they were needed)

After last nights few games with Ginny, I'm starting to think I might have hit my cap on DPS in high gold.

Getting called out a fair bit for being quote: "a bad DPS" or accused of throwing.

I did manage to get a 6 man kill on point with pharah, which I will try and upload tonight. Which if I remember right might have been a point deny, but can't be sure.

Not sure if to take a break from comp for a while and try practice mechanics of a better range of DPS heroes or go back to playing support and a better Zarya so I can fill a little .

I wouldn't pay too much heed to people saying that... the enemy players not dying is the symptom of something not working, and since dps players are (or should be) the primary killers they are often the first port of call when it happens... but the tanks and supports have a role to play as well:

Tanks chasing kills and not trying to protect dps/supports -> dps get picked off, or you lose your healing/sustain
Supports not healing the right targets or chasing kills -> tanks die, then see above, or supports get picked off themselves

That Genji who absolutely rips through an enemy team getting 5-man team wipes left and right? Often has a Winston or a Dva playing correctly with him to help soften up targets or use their cooldowns to stop the enemy team from shutting him down before he gets that value, and supports propping the whole thing up.

I'm not saying you should always assume you aren't partly to blame, but people throw out "dps get kills ffs wtf" in almost every losing situation in my experience

Thanks, and yes your right for the most part.

I had 4 gold medals (i know not a great reflection on the match itself) but if i have gold damage, elims etc. I must be at least playing my role partly right?

Ah well, Maybe Ill learn the new support hero....

Don't let it get to you... I know how it feels because the same thing happened to me last week. Playing Reaper all evening, many games with imginy, and getting gold/silver medals every match; then on Kings Row attack I don't think we even got the first point, and I only had 1 elim at the end of the first round, and this one dude on Widow or Ashe (who was getting damage from a safe distance) was giving me loads of abuse on voice comms that it was all my fault because Reaper should always be gold elims and gold damage. Even after I swapped hero I was still getting abuse until the end of the match (which we lost)... however, healers were giving me zero support (cos Reaper is invincible if you didn't know), and the tanks didn't push through the first choke at all, so it was a massacre. Had I gone from playing really well all night to zero in one match... no, others factors have an impact.

Unless you are able to seriously hard carry, you can't excel at DPS if the rest of your team are not performing. The important thing is to realise that your current hero isn't working in this match and change out to a different DPS with different mechanics, or maybe change to an off-tank, or just ask someone else to swap role and just admit the current matchup just isn't working for you.

Like I said, I know how you feel, and I was still angry about it the next day too. The guys being salty are the problem, not you!

Exactly as above... you definitely should have the elims medal as a dps character, but since the context is only within your own team it doesn't actually tell you that much (e.g. I've seen games where gold elims was 3 after an entire round)... doesn't necessarily mean the dps are at fault still but it's a sign that whatever the team is doing as a whole is not enabling the dps to do their job...

It's one of the many flaws in the SR system too... people say "just try and play your best and perform your role even in losing games and you'll climb in the long run" but if you get a team who aren't adapting and aren't supporting each other properly then even if you are a great dps player you might come out of the game with a gold medal at 3 elims, and the system will punish you harshly for that...

want to buy friends to play with

seriously getting fed up of kids and people not willing to change things up, Im all up for losing if the team has worked together and been simply out played.

seems theres a few of us that play and are all complaining about poor teamwork, lets join up :)

throw in your ID's :D

Did you guys try out the new support hero, Baptiste, on PTR? Is he good? I saw the announcement for him and thought of starting to play again as I haven't played since Brig.

I quite like Baptiste... not spent enough time to fully decide. I think he has a very different play style to the other healers, so will need to work out what works best... I am tempted to put some hours into him and consider him as one of my viable heroes. His offense is more like Soldier, which suits me, and his healing is more a bit more forgiving than Ana since it does splash damage and he has better mobility. However, he has some limitations healing from range, which might limit him depending on the team comp. Co-ordinated teamwork is a must to get the most from him... I don't think he is as OP as I initially thought and he won't break the game at gold level, but I'm excited to see if and how he is used in OWL.

Limited healing from range?? Not sure if serious? His healing grenades travel some hell of a distance!

And he can throw his protective barrier thing some waystoo! He has a VERY all round kit. He can seemingly be played up close or at range and still pump out decent healing numbers.

His issues, at least early impressions are escapes. He has his jumpy boots for mobility yes, but that's probably more for keeping better/safer positions and line of sights to heal at range or throw his barriers out.

His self heal and AOE heal, IMO are more for using when pushing, or to make it to the front line to plonk down your ULT.

I might be very wrong, but thats what i take from him.

What rank do you play at, most of us have listed our id's on pages gone by and are on my list, you can play with me if you want I don't mind playing with anyone, I play anywhere from gold to masters.

Right now I'm in plat (hopefully back to diamond in a couple of days) but I also have ult account to play with lower if needed.

It's mainly me and musty playing together from 9pm to 1am most nights, sometimes stu jumps on as well but anyone is welcome.

Mine is Ginnnny#2449

Your phara is fine for your rank, I think it keeps getting better you have your own style going on where you don't need healing which is nice.

If you wasnt working all day you would probably already be in high plat. You have already learned loads from us playing together and your mechanical skills is obviously getting better.

Unless you get better though your dps isn't good enough for diamond right now , the skill level of dps players in diamond is far beyond what we seeing in low plat so learning another character now or switching over to baptiste would make it easier to climb in to diamond and beyond.

Zarya is getting nerfed so might not be the best time to switch to her.

I think baptiste would be good for you, surely the phara rockets skills will transfer to his healing grenades.

Nothing to worry about right now though, your phara is good enough to get you another 500sr.

Normally play around diamond/top end of gold

fell down to low gold now due to extremely poor teamwork I would say I should sit around mid diamond at my skill level. I shall add you tonight :)

Thanks man.

I think i play her VERY cautious because I know subconsciously I don't want to be picked off early by hit scan etc. and then shouted at by the team for being bad.

Also (unless you play as Mercy) I can never rely (and probably shouldn't) on supports for a pocket. So I always have to play out of line of sight, and still try be effective. Which is hard in itself. I think a lot of people (at least lower ranks) forget quite how hard she is to play well.

I wish i played her before the splash reductions, i know i would have owned then!

What do you play Marc? Wondering if we can get a good 3 stack team going.

I think the key to getting a good match on overwatch having 3 people on your team that know what they are doing.

You need 1 dps who is capable of getting multiple kills each attack.

1 tank who is upfront in there face creating space.

1 healer keeping the above 2 players alive.

With these 3 ingredients you will have a nice match and everyone else should fall into place. But if you are missing 1 of the 3 you will probably get rolled.
