Overwatch

Medals smedals. Lots of hero damage done without finishing them off = you just fed their healers ultimates etc.

To an extent, but they do count for something I feel. I was playing yesterday as Soldier and one guy was moaning about me and making jokes 'Reaper, I'll give you my ult' (as Ana) 'I think Soldier would be better with it' says Reaper 'I don't' {snigger}. I think his issue was Phara had killed him too many times. Now I'd been focusing Phara as much as I could, but when Phara and Mercy are up there, I have to get Mercy first before I can move on to Phara, they were both playing quite smart, not over committing, staying close to cover etc and I was the only counter to them. At least 4 times in the game I took Phara down for Mercy to bring her right back again.

As we started Overtime half this guy was asking me to change. I pointed out I have gold damage, elims and kills... is he sure we want to lose that? 'Medals mean nothing' he replies. 'Really, that's a lot of the enemy I've been killing that wont be getting killed if I swap out... I can do if you're sure though'. He didn't say anything further. He kept telling me to focus Phara when I already was, she couldn't get forward as I was battering her. At least 3 times, maybe 4, in the game I ended her ult early with minimal casualties. Makes you wonder some times what people are expecting of you!

I would loved to have known how far ahead on each stat I was than second. I know if I've had a bad game (often reflected by lack of golds too) this wasn't one of them.

People always moan when there's a hitscan that can't kill a pharmercy, makes no sense at all. Almost impossible for one soldier to take them both out. The Ana should have switched to Zen to make it easier.

I did try playing on US servers a bit, it was better for comms but you still got people that didn't grasp the game at all, make weird switches etc, that is obviously unavoidable as not really governed by geographic location.

This was in the middle of a massive losing streak that I didn't have the sense to take a break from though. I should give US a go again now.

I need to play more to improve but I get very bad "competitive anxiety" still trying to repair my SR from that loss streak.

Is there a reason they shouldn't? Tbh, I wouldn't want them to wait for a season to end before fixing things clearly wrong.

Fixing is fine, but changing the entire dynamic and playstyle of a hero as well as a new map most probably haven't played enough just isn't the right thing to do.

It's like changing the rules of Formula 1, what teams can and can't do to their cars mid season... Makes no sense and just causes havoc.

Personally, I don't think that anything should change in a season (specially now as it's only 2 months long) until the start of a new season.

I do get that, but would suggest we shouldn't be taking it that serious tbh. Formula 1 there are literally millions of £££ at stake, I believe people work 20 hour days sometimes, people's livelihood on the line perhaps, people's lives on the line for sure. What's at stake in an Overwatch comp season? Worst case is I can only play one character and they change how that character works and now me SR is no longer accurate. To me that's not a reason to delay something.

Ahh the infamous Phara mercy combo. I havent been playing for a long time and just had a game last night where this was a thing. Me playing mcree and someone else soldier. Now i do alright in the headshotting department but hitting those 2 with headshots while airborne, which is required unless you want mercy to heal all the damage while you reload, is ffing difficult and to top it of i had the soldier dude yelling at me to focus them which i was already doing whenever it made sense(im not going to chase them down through enemy lines alone just to be nailed dead by the entire team) yet he seemed fare more into going after junkrats and fat pigs himself.. some people. This was comp btw.

On a side note. It just dawned on me during my last game why i never end up playing for long. Always thought it was some of the cheese abilities/character like Genji's ult(that stupid silly arc and medium range for a melee hit wtf?) but no its the toxicity. Its why i stopped playing League/Dota. You have these ill mannered quick to loss their temper people screaming insults over voice because someone did not do their personal bidding. As if somehow the game is about them being carried through the game while they press mouse1 to shoot at something random. Had 1 game last night, 1st round we lost, no hostility just a few suggestions thrown around including a swap of hero for me which i followed and we ended up winning. What a breath of fresh air that was. We could have lost and it would still have been a good game.

The 'competitive' you and I are playing is nothing more than a slightly more serious quick play and only because there is a rating attached. Professional tournaments, and the OW League will finish the season on the build they started unless it is bug fixes. I dont think new mercy and DVA are live on APEX at the moment

You've probably hit your level to be honest pal. You may be getting the gold medals, but you're not that good that you can carry teams to victory on a regular basis. I half agree on the playing more, but mainly because it will make you better. Don't try to be the master of everything, stick to a couple of classes you can get really, really good with, and you'll climb. Stop focusing on your SR so much too, just play comp to enjoy it. :)

I'm not entirely sure this assessment is always right (though can be).

I feel like I'm stuck just below gold, and can't get out of silver right now. I'm no GM, and never will be, but I think I could hold my own and make a meaningful contribution in gold, and probably platinum; but matches in silver are so variable it is hard to string a winning streak together. I know that solo Q is not helping. So many times several team mates don't seem to understand there is an objective (they play like deathmatch), or expect a healer to support them but offer no protection in return, or trickle back from respawn to feed the opposition one at a time. I understand these issues, and my aim is pretty good, so I wonder why I find myself in these teams. Other times (like last night), I was in a decent team, everyone in the match was around 1-2 star rank, except the level 600 Hanzo main on the other team who destroyed us... what was he doing in that match?!?!?

I've been reading other forums, etc, today, and there are so many that say "Git gud", accept that you are only a bronze or silver player... "I've proved you can easily get out of silver, because I did bronze to GM easily"... if you got to GM, then of course you got past silver easily!!! Don't compare yourself to me or others stuck in lower ranks!!! I do wonder if there is much difference between players in high silver through to low platinum... is it actually a very shallow skill slope, which makes it difficult to climb unless you are significantly better?

All in, I don't get upset about my rank, but I would like to play this like a team-based objective game (is this not right?). To add to this, I was in QP recently and I was using mic... I don't over use, and no one has ever complained to me before, but that day someone asked me to stop speaking... I replied that it was a team game, we should talk to each other... the response - "no talk, it's not comp". Sometimes I wonder if I'm playing the same game as my teammates...

There is a big difference between high silver and low platinum. At High silver I can run in the middle of the enemy team with Symmetra jump round like crazy and take them all out in one go, you just can't do that in plat because people can aim much better and work as group much better.

Last season I dropped from plat down to silver while I was learning doomfist and as soon as I got the hang of using him I got my rank back up by 600 points in a couple of days.
(what a waste of 30 hours that was he got nerfed so hard I can no longer use him)

I struggle at high plat but when I play on my sons pc at high silver/low gold I find it very easy.

Edit: My best tip for getting out of high silver solo queing would be learn a character like sym or torb that can carry your team on the defence. If you can stop them scoring first base the worst you normally get is a draw and you will rank up consistently.

I agree with those above, Pharmercy is near impossible to deal with, to the point where I feel like it has almost broken the game (and it's not just as simple as focusing the mercy first with everything else that is going on).

It's kind of a funny predicament. A while ago (before the d'va changes) Jeff didn't like that defence matrix could just wipe out someones hard work (ult). Well, you have the exact same situation here, if you don't kill the mercy then any hard work spent killing the pharah is completely undone. Now in the past, everyone knew to de-mech d'va before using tac visor etc... Today everyone knows you need to kill mercy first to stop the rez... (easier said than done though right). So question is, will she get nerfed in a similar way to d'va so as to not make that massive effort in killing someone pointless?

And don't get me started on 3v3s with mercy. Almost a guaranteed round if you have a mercy.

Yeah phara is a pain for me especially as I don't play any of the hit scan characters so if I'm in a match where they have a decent phara and no one on my team is playing hit scan I am well and truly screwed.

Lots a few rank points because of that :(

It's £19.99 at the moment, is it worth it? Do lost of people still play online?

I didn't get it until christmas so was about a year behind everyone and it was still great and yeah people still play it I think it still sells around 1 million copies a month. It's all on servers so no lag and a competitive match you find within 2 mins and the other modes normally get a match within 1 min.

The good thing about overwatch once you buy it you have there is no dlc to buy, any new maps or characters or game modes are all free.

Thanks for the tip. I'm pretty good with Torb, so I'll stick with using him. Just learning Sym after seeing many people say how strong she is at this level, but not having great results yet. However, not sure how you take out a whole team without trying... I quickly put Sym down using S76 if she jumps in, which makes me wonder about other silver players.

I just started playing a bit of torb this season and found this set of videos really helpful. They show the best place to put the turret on every defense point well worth a watch if you haven't already seen them.

Yeah symm does take a lot of practice to get really good with her I had around 300 hours just playing symm.
