Pascal Titan-X Launch

The joke is other than slightly having a bit more VRAM than the equivalent card would have had - this is basically the GTX470, etc. for this generation but you get to pay £1000+ for it - well played nVidia.

Uh oh.

:D Sorry Rroff. Hope you enjoy the new "fanboy" label!! :p

i told people the Ti was coming 3months later but they couldnt wait
no one likes waiting
well maybe monks, but i dont think this card is target monks

I remember you saying this. Nobody listens Mei!!

and LOL, Monks :D Just wonder where Monks are going to get £1200 :)

Why is it called X again?
Why not

Why isn't it using HBM2?
Its not available and simply doesn't offer any advnatges. thsi thing comes with 480GB/s bandwidth already. 384bit of GDRR5X is more than sufficient., just look at the 1080.

Why is it being unveiled with no hype at a low-rent event?
Its a niche product that most people simply wont buy. No point spending a fortune on marketing, PR, press invites for a product that wont sell in volume to the masses. the product will largely sell itself to enthusiast - Kapp is already preparing his credit cards.

i met a monk all he cared about was his broom
maybe nvidia will get a monk to try VR that would be pretty sweet

What's that got to do with anything I said? Nvidia themselves have claimed their Titan cards are outside their normal pricing structure. Go take it up with them.

My point still stand. Nvidia haven't reduced the price of the Titan cards no matter what else has been released.

Oh, and the original Titan had full DP etc, but there is a reason workstation cards costs 1000's and it's because of the support and software you get with those cards.

You just provided the answer to your own point: The Titan cards are outside the price structure of normal cards. Why? Because they serve a niche market who are willing to pay the price.

Support/software is irrelevant. The Titans were a fraction of the cost of normal workstation cards.

The original discussion didn't only include the Titan pricing either. You rabid AMD fans have been crying about Nvidia pricing across the board for years. A period in which AMD continued to fall in performance.

Why is this not GP100? No competition? Save for later?

GP100 is designed for HPC with a lot of transistors spent on FP64 performance which isn't needed for gaming, and an HBM2 interface which just isn't needed at this time and isn't possible due to HB2 availability.

That's my point. AMD don't have any alternatives. So OF COURSE Nvidia can price their GPUs higher. AMD failed to compete. People like you love to whine about an Nvidia monopoly but fail to hold AMD to account for the current state of affairs. I blame the loser, not the winner.

That is a veyr good point.

We all want AMD to do well and prevent a Nvidia Monopoly but people seem to be blaming the wrong company. AMD have completely failed to bring out a new line up and what they have brought out is pretty lackluster in performance with absolutely dire performance per watt. Here's the kicker - the 1060 actually has betetr performance per dollar than the 480 so where on earth are AMD expecting to pic up any market share form?

I just hope it is a case that AMd are putting all their eggs in the Zen basket because there are much bigger fortunes to be had there. Polaris P10 is such a half-heated attempt, by AMD's own words there is a 15% improvement in architectural efficiency which is less than the 20-25% Nvidia achieved with pascal, the net result being the 480 uses more power than 1070 at half the performance!

Fingers crossed Zen meets or exceeds expectations. AMD really need Zen. They are so for behind in the GPU NVidia are just doing their victory laps while AMD are crawling to the next aid station.

at £1000 it looks good value against the £750 1080 koolaid.

thats how b0rked we are right now.

looking at the cost then, I assume its 30% quicker than a 1080. gulp.

Hmm Nvidia are being greedy ***** and AMD are bloody useless.

We need a new player in this game IMO.

So true, wish Samsung made GPU's :)

Nope, blame Nvidia for Nvidia prices. This is just pure greed. They have jacked the price at every level. Also the RX480 VS GTX 1060 is a wash in performance terms. With the 1060 doing better in DX11 and the RX480 performing much much better in DX12. Going forward the RX480 might make more sense to some. Although I do agree with what that other guy said, that people mostly are clueless and could buy in to a DX11 card cos it has an Nvidia label.

Attack? Greg we not in some sort fighting arena? LOL Man up!! This is a Forum for Discussion I can freely say what I want! If I disagree with something even if its right or wrong to some people this is my view END off!!

My View people should Just wait for the Ti!! How was that Attack LOOOOL

It seems "most" have more money than sense. We all complain about price and why GPUs are getting more high priced Well people need to wake up and smell the coffee. These Keep selling then all Nvidia Line up will keep on rising in price.

Lol you clearly missed the Mickley take where you said defensive, so I switched it to attack. I knew you wasn't the sharpest tool in the box but come on man, lighten up :D

Just noticed something else from the specs, I don't think it is a full fat chip as that would have 3840 cores on it. This looks like it has 256 cores disabled.

Does that mean there will be a full fat chip waiting to be released later as yet another Titan variant ?

The price gouging goes on !!!

room left for the Ultra or Black editions when yields improve/peoples wallets are drained by this card first.

AMD Fanboy recommending to buy a Nvidia GPU? Well that makes perfect sense

Tip: Am not a FanBoy! never have and never will. I have recommended Nvidia GPUs to a lot of people. A true Story a friend mine called Chaboy quite big on Youtube his first PC recommended by me was a Nvidia 670 I could easy told him to buy AMD but I didn't because at the time that was his best choice.
Now my choice would have been AMD because I dislike how Nvidia do things doesn't make me a Fanboy!

I really wish I wasn't at work, as I have the perfect gif for this comment :D
