Pascal Titan-X Launch

Based on the core count and clock speed it will be ~24% faster than a 1080, based on the teraflops it will be 25% faster

TX was ~43% faster than 980 based on TF

What a joke

I really hope I'm wrong but i have a feeling this is the 1080ti, branded as a Titan which has been released 1st to maximize profits as theres plenty of demand for more power. As it does seem they will release the full fat titan later probably when Vega hits. Makes perfect business sense this way round, rather than 980ti eating in to Titan x sales. If it can do Witcher 3 at 4k Ultra @ 60fps i would probably get one.
You've got it backwards.

Makes more sense to release the top dog card right away at a price premium to capitalize on all the big-spending enthusiasts and then release the better performance-per-dollar top end variant afterwards to get the people who aren't able/willing to buy the more expensive version.

There's a reason Nvidia have done it like this twice now.

Because we've been burnt before, so it's best not to jump on the hype train until the cards have been benchmarked and reviewed
If this was the case, then why do people constantly overestimate what AMD cards will do before release?

And when did you get burnt? As far as I can tell, Nvidia have outperformed expectations with:

970/980
980Ti/TitanX
1070/1080
1060

The only 'disappointment' from Nvidia anytime recently was the 960. Other than that, it seems they are fully delivering on great performance. Pricing on the other hand...

No it wouldn't - TPU at 4k places the GTX1080 as 31.5% faster than the old Titan X. If the new Titan X is 60% faster than a old one that would make the new one 21.6% faster then the GTX1080.
Ah yea, you're right my bad.

No way it's that slow, though. Surely they aren't going to release the most disappointing flagship Titan yet and charge an extra $200 for it? Say what you will about the 1070 and 1080's pricing, those cards are at least very powerful. 20% more performance with a 100% higher pricetag would be shockingly terrible.

^^^^^^ This

Everybody knows the script:
1.)Release the Titan X - people get excited and pay mega-monies for it since it is the "fastest card in the world"
2.)A few months later the GTX1080TI is launched which is faster and much cheaper

Rinse and repeat.

thinking about it though GP100 has 15.3 billion transistors gp102 has 12 billion transistors and the Titan has 12gb Vram, the 1080 Ti CAN'T have 6 gb as it'll be the same as 1060! so it's got to have at least 9gb based on a 384-bit interface but still 1gb Vram more than a 1080/1070 seems too low, so could we get a 12gb 1080 Ti and then later a 16gb Titan. do we think we could get a titan based on gp100 at all? I was hoping gp102 had all the same goodness as gp100 apart from the lack of double precision. lets wait and see what the performance is like. 4k on a single gpu? sure as long as you don't go crazy with the AA

Again, that strategy makes no sense.

Titan -> x80Ti afterwards is the ideal strategy and why they've done it twice in a row now.

It makes total sense. This isn't what the Titan was promised at, it has the same amount of VRAM as the last Titan. It also allows nvidia room to release a faster card if amd manage to compete down the line. Plus it's more profit for nvidia as they can sell a lesser card for more money. It's totally something nvidia will do.

I think this would have been the 1080ti but has been rebadged as a Titan due to the lack of competition. We will still get a 1080ti but a lesser form of one.

I hope you're right but i feel the ARE people who will put this kinda money down this time round especially with 4k and VR gaming or high FPS monitors , as shown with the demand and sales of the 1080 which would make a savvy company switch the business model this time round to maximize profits. I mean just look what they done with the founders edition. I wouldn't put anything past them this time around. Again i hope you're right but i just don't see it this time around where there is demand.
