Path of Exile(diablo clone)

everytime i get a unique drop that looks interesting i check poe trade only to find its worth 1c
are there many uniques that are actually worth a lot? i know the belt you got was
Not really no, check poe.ninja on the economy section and you'll get an idea of how few uniques are worth a good deal. At this point I recognise every unique from the art and base type and have a general idea of what's worth something, what's not, what's worthless but can become valuable if you just corrupt it and get the right implicit.
Most of my income this league has been from high value uniques and random rares that have dropped and sold for 0.5 exalts

yeah i figured there wasnt many worthwhile, just downloaded the poe trademacro for price checking so hopefully that will give me some idea of what to price things at because with rares i dont have a clue

Answered a few questions for a newer player this morning before leaving for work. Guy thanked me and said "you will get an exalt soon for your kindness"
One dropped within 5 minutes of him saying that.

Got to 28 challenges completed and almost at level 96 as well. Looking at the 12 remaining challenges there's definitely an easy run to 36. It might just take a little grinding.
Next on the menu I'm going to cap 10 observed bosses in every region, spam invites then rinse and repeat. Should be a clear path to the bosses observed and craftable watchstones challenges. While doing that I'll use map mods like Warband to push another challenge and hope the Blizzard Crown base appears in a ritual so I can get THAT one out of the way. After that it's more targeted things like deep delve, blight maps, conditional boss kills

It's handy for giving you an idea that something is potentially worth something but I'd not recommend taking the actual values it gives as gospel

Thanks for sharing the good RNG luck tonight guys, I've had 2 exalts from delve in the last 5 minutes :D

Bought a perfect Starforge yesterday, now I need to 6 link it hahahaha .............................. *goes back to grind*

Did a couple of Maven kills last night an somehow went from the first one with 5 deaths and getting hit by everything to deathless while also passing the memory game and dodging the coil beams. I think I lucked out in the last phase because she teleported right on top of me just as I popped my flasks and Vall RF AND my Ngamahu ascendancy passive came online so I managed to nuke her before she moved.
Also lucked out on the really long sequence memory game because it went left, top, left, top, left, top, left

Brought myself up to 30 challenges so now I get to lord it over the 20lets in global 2

What does this mean in PoE

"This gem can only support Skill Gems requiring level 58 (number rises per rank the support gem is) or lower"

Gems normally only go up to level 20 so there's something I clearly don't understand here.

Ignore the level of the gem. Look at the bit where it says the requirements on the gem and it'll have a stat requirement and a level requirement

It’s talking about the character level it requires to be useable. The higher the level of the gem, the higher the level that the character needs to be and the related stats, such as dexterity or intelligence.

Otherwise you could have level 1 characters running around with level 21 gems and support gems they’ve just bought and it would be a bit janky with no sense of progression.

So this confused me even more initially but got me thinking/checking the PoE wiki

I'm following a build guide that says to level CWDTS to level 11 and link it with Steelskin that's leveled to 16 and not to go above that.

Steelskin at level 16 has a level requirement of 58 and CWDTS at level 11 also requires level 58. I didn't understand why the build guide says to do this as Steelskin when used takes 1317 damage at 16, but if I leveled the gem beyond that it would take more damage when used with CWDTS. Based on that I should be leveling Steelskin higher so that it takes more damage when procced from CWDTS

BUT

For CWDTS to use Steelskin at level 11 & 16 it requires me to take 1485 damage. If the support gem was lower it wouldn't support Steelskin as "CWDTS cannot support skills with a higher player level requirement" so if I leveled Steekskin past 16 the level requirement would be 61 and then CWDTS wouldn't work.

I feel that's some bad design by GGG as I have to keep the gem capped at 11 and 16 to get more uses out of Steelskin.

Not bad design, just forces you to weigh up what you want more. Do you want:

A) A weaker effect more often triggered
B) A more powerful effect less often triggered

I personally keep my IC around 14 so that I get a decent amount of damage reduction but also low enough that it consumes my endurance charges enough to keep Valako passive from the Chieftain tree up

By the same token I keep Spell Cascade at I think it was level 3 or 4 connected to my Bladefall as it's at that level that you keep the AoE reduction at the highest value while also minimising the damage reduction

Exactly, it’s about getting the sweet spot for your build. It’s actually good design as it’s flexibility allows you to do such things in the first place.

GGG do a lot of things that appear convoluted or wrong at first glance, but once you fully decipher it (clear explanations aren’t their strong point admittedly), there’s usually a good reason for it.

At level 16 Steelskin takes 1317 damage, at 20 it's 2209, a difference of 892 damage
CWDTS requires you take 1485 damage to use SS, at level 20 it's a huge 3272 a difference of 1787

If the numbers were tuned so that your A and B example were equally balanced, I'd agree and level them to 20 but it's not.

I know I'm new to PoE after playing for almost a week but you're punished for leveling those gems.

Now compare the typical max HP of a level 70 character to a level 58 one and also the damage output of monsters in maps against those in acts.
Also look at it this way. I have max block, a buttload of regen, leech, life on hit, life on kill, life on block etc etc effects. Were I looking at using steelskin in that manner I would only need it as a safety net to give me enough time to replenish my HP so max level is fine since I have some 6.3k health anyway

I've got 3719 HP at 86 as a Cyclone Duelist. Now I'm wondering if that's bad :p

CWDTS has an internal cooldown of 250 ms, if it was higher maybe I'd agree, but no matter how you look at it, it's very clearly better to keep them low level to absorb a lot more damage over any boss encounter or clear.

Obviously CWDTS works with other gems so it's not easy to balance, but an increased ICD might fix that globally.
