Path of Exile(diablo clone)

Can someone explain to me what stats your looking for on gear, someone said to me its like diablo meaning casting speed is the best stat, with crits. Well where do other stats come into this, like physical damage, ive noticed every bit of gear has some kind of block or energy shield too, who uses energy shield gear, im kinda confused like i was at the beginning of diablo 3.

If you have a read of this page it explains it a little but in a nutshell items can have a preffix and suffix attached to them to make up their properties.

I think, off the top of my head blue items can have upto 2 extra properties and rares upto 6.

So, if you where to memorize all the names you'd instantly know how each item in the game is going to roll and be manipulated when you recraft it.

You can also have an item on your cursor and then type /itemlevel into the chat windows to see its level, this helps out comparing items and if its worth spending materials to upgrade or change it over your current item.

As for your specific requirements, its hard to advise without knowing your class and how your planning to spend your passives.

Hope this helps.

I'm a Witch. The item rolls seem similar to diablo, Its just the stats on the items that are strange to me, Just loads of percentage stats most of which seem absolutely useless.

Had the 900% unarmed damage unique mitts drop tonight, but sounds like unarmed builds are quite hard work at the moment. Dunno whether to hang on to them or sell.

Heh, I've got those as well. Very tempted to try it out just for a laugh. Probably completely useless in reality but might be fun trying to beat Merveil to death with your fists :p

What don't you understand exactly? The only one I can see causing confusion would be Global Crit Chance/Multiplier.

Edit: Nice list of the stats, didn't know they had one. Are they up to date though? Since I notice they all refer to Life Regen as Life Per Minute when its always displayed as Per Second in game.

*drools over the prospect of an endgame hammer with 170% physical damage, 35% longer stun and 15% lower stun threshold* :D

D

The Item Affixes are confusing me the most, I've learnt that you can buy a high item level grey/white item from a vendor and then just use a orb on it to turn it into a rare, and them stats it creates will turn the grey item into what could be a amazing item, so really you can just farm a specific item level no matter the stats and then just orb it.

Orbs of transmutation and alteration are easily and reliably obtained from trading stuff with vendors, so I think it's a better idea to use them whenever they'd be useful than it is to farm in the hope of something better dropping eventually. I could farm a couple of hundred of each if I wanted to - why should I worry about using a dozen?

Because when you have an item you can't seem to find a replacement for, you'll more than likely end up looking in trade chat, then you will probably not have enough to buy it, and wish you kept your orbs rather than using on items that got replaced 60 levels ago. And sure, you could farm a couple hundred of each, but it would take you months for certain orbs. Exalted, divine, GCP, regal etc, all reallyy rare drops, you can't really farm them, would takes months.

Note the section of my post that I've just emphasised. At this stage, I am fine with base equipment crafted into magic items, which only requires those two types of orb (and maybe only 1 of them if the initial magic stats are good).

Good god Vaal sucked ass on my Ranger. I could survive a single laser so long as I was at full hp. The ranged summons could do a decent chunk of damage if I didn't keep moving. Luckily you were usually fine so long as you kept moving. But yeah, he killed me twice (put a TP up in the area or you'll regret it!).

After reading some stuff on the forums I've decided its a good idea to adjust my build slightly and go after some more health nodes. Apparently you should treat Vaal as a defence check so if you're having trouble with him you are probably in need of more defences.

I fought my way through the pyramid with a L28 Marauder geared towards damage...and got almost instakilled by the Vaal oversoul. I hit it 2 or 3 times before it blasted me with the laser and killed me from almost full HP.

So I asked someone I know who plays the game and he said that elemental resistance was particularly important. He was right - I took an elemental resistance skill and changed my equipment to emphasise that rather than DPS and I went back and killed the oversoul in a straightforward "stand still and chain heavy strike" fight. 75% lightning resistance was the key (I also had ~60% in fire and cold resistance). All it took was a change of jewellery.

Pretty much. Not sure whats confusing you about it though? You are more likely to find a normal item with the sockets you want than you are a rare item with the sockets you want. Though from what I was told by someone earlier in game, you generally shouldn't use Orbs of Alchemy as they are quite valuable for trading.

Aye thats pretty much my experience. Armour is only physical reduction. Evasion can't avoid spells. I had around 15% res when I started Act 3. When I finished I had 75% Fire + Lightning and 74% Cold. Made all the difference.

I downloaded about half the game, lost connection to wifi, it decided closing the program was the best idea, reopened and had to start from the beginning :/

Just tried this for an hour or so...

If i was blizzard I would be embarrassed this is what D3 should have been.

PoE is an early beta that's not even complete. They're still working on content - it's not just bugfixing and balancing. It's only on v0.10e at the moment (although I think they're being a bit odd with their version numbering - it must be closer to completion than that).

I haven't played D3, but it's noteworthy that a beta of a game from a small team is widely being placed on a par with it. Some say D3 is better, some say PoE is better, but the fact that large numbers of people consider them directly comparable at all says a lot.

Why, hasn't it sold like 10 million copies, as a business it's made a killing regardless of what anyone says.

I'm sure the PoE guys would take a tenth of those sales.

Because POE doesn't have a 17 year fan following?

If 2 hours of a beta have left a better impression on me, a TRUE diablo fan then what Diablo 3 did I think that says it all.

of course some people will like D3 more, possibly because they didn't play D1/D2 for thousands of hours so have no idea what the games fan base was heavily based on.

for ME PoE is closer to a diablo game than D3 has managed to be and that is only after 2 hours of tinkering about with it.

I've probably spent at least 2 hours in the skill tree on the website tinkering with my builds ><

I was looking on the forum and there's a Ranger physical build similar to what I'm trying to achieve but clearly with far better planning since they know what sort of bonus stats from uniques they can expect and what skill gems require what investment and so on. So there is a real depth to levelling that you simply won't get in 1 play through.

I think I'm going to take a break from this for a week or two, and hope they sort out the disconnects. Which is a shame as I had held back from playing closed beta as they kept character resetting.

I know they will sort it soon, but at the moment the loss of drops is causing me to rage :)

I think currently they do OK thanks to supporters. Not sure if it was rumour or confirmed but I believe over 1000 people did the $1k tier - I even saw one on the first day (you can tell by the pet). Their playerMax was 70k as well, this means they must have an extremely high player base already.

While F2P games have to take the long road to monetisation, I think there is room for this game to sit alongside D3. The AH really destroyed D3 for me, I am still really firmly against it's inclusion although I can understand why people enjoy it's instant gratification.

See this is wierd, I haven't had a disconnect for a good few days now and am sitting 3/4 hour sessions each time.
