Path of Exile(diablo clone)

Haven't played D3 beyond the demo, so I'm not in a position to do a direct comparison, but I'd imagine such issues are probably easier to forgive when a). the game is free and b). there are still 2 more acts and their related content to come.

i find it quite funny that path of exile has similar problems to diablo 3 but nobody seems to care. messed up loot tables, useless unique items and cookie-cutter builds. let's also not forget the generic look of all items your character never looks "amazing".

I dont mean to sound harsh but... If you played both games for a decent amount of time and still cant see the fundamental differences between path of exile and d3 in its current state then im not going to explain it to u.

I can honestly say I've never once looked at my character in PoE and thought 'looking like a boss!' (or any such derivative :p) because it doesn't really matter... (I'd bet money on more people having zooned in to look at the boobs on the statues in Solaris than to oogle their characters gear :D).

As far as Legendaries/Uniques go, I really haven't seen enough of them to comment but from what I have seen, most seem to serve a purpose, if only for levelling up. My Ranger has a pair of lvl5 Unique gloves (he is lvl47ish on Act 2 Cruel) on (I have 2 pairs of them now, friend had the second pair drop but gave me them because he thought they were useless only that pair had 2 linked dex sockets). Defences wise they are a bit crap but they offer a 20% bonus to attack speed when you're at full health which is a massive boost as a Evade/Dodge Ranger. Most Legendaries I've seen are down to what you can make of them.

You're right though i think there's a few reasons why no-one cares about those things, mainly the gameplay and engaging story/enviroments themselves..

Diablo III was all about coolecting the loot and looking like the Dog Baubles (which isn't a bad thing) Though PoE is different, they seem an after thought (to me anyway). The only items i really bother about are Weapons, For obvious reason..

Also, PoE has no repuation to 'up-hold'.. (It does now :) )

i prefer the statue boss with the red dink

Found my first unique last night.

A level 12 double-handed axe. On my ranger :D

Looks like I'll be levelling a Marauder!

Incidentally, aren't there gear-appearance options in the cash shop for this? I was under the impression you could buy non-combat pets, new animations and gear appearance changers. I've not investigated it, but if so you could theoretically have an awesome-looking character for (much) less than the cost of a copy of D3.

Yeah, you can buy new animations/weapon effects etc. After watching streams though your character will probably never look awesome, I don't really care that much though, they look "fine" IMO.

Yeah that was very distracting during that fight :p

I'm a little tempted to get the King Frog for a laugh, though I've already bought 6 Premium Tabs in the bundle so I'll leave it at that for the mean time.

Incidentally. I went through act 1 coop yesterday and there seemed to be Superior (Quality) gear dropping left right n centre! Was this always the case or was I just not aware of there value* before so never noticed?

*If you don't know what i mean, check out the vendor recipe's. Weapon/Armour with 20% Quality or group of items with a combined Quality of 40%+ = Whetstone/Scrap. Well worth having a stash tab set aside for random quality junk so you can sell them when you get enough.

You can also sell an item with linked green-red-blue sockets and get one of those orbs that changes socket colour (not ingame now and can't remember the name, chromatic orb, maybe?).

It also works out cheaper buying vender items with the linked sockets than buying an orb normally :).

I remember in closed beta, there was a Chrome plugin that scanned your stash, and told you available recipes from the results. I've formatted my PC since, but I'll see if I can find it again.

Loving my summoner/fire witch too much, so the rage quit didn't last long. Spell totem + Skeles rocks! On the downside, my Hardcore character died at 48 :( and Hardcore stash has the majority of my best orbs. Tempted to transfer them over to the default league, but I'll leave them there just in case.

Looks like it's still available, this is from the PoE forums:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/42272/page/1

What is it:
An extension to the chrome web browser that allows you to find crafting recipes and helps to organise your inventory. Initially developed by HouseAbsolute then updated by TJJ. I have taken the sourcecode and mutilated it beyond recognition.

You can download the extension here: http://njs50.github.com/poe_ext/

Installation

1) click https://raw.github.com/njs50/poe_ext/master/poe_ext.crx to download the file

2) Ignore the message about not being able to install

3) Type in chrome://extensions in the address bar to go to your extensions page.

4) drag the file you downloaded in 1 (should be on the bottom of your screen still) into this page.

Basic usage
- Log in to pathofexile.com with "Remember Me" checked.
- Open the chrome app (new tab page -> apps -> PoE Helper).
- Select the league you want to view.
- Whenever you want to refresh the items from the server you need to click Refresh then either "All or Partial (and select which parts to refresh).
- Select either the crafting recipe you want to make (only ones you can make are shown) or View Inventory to see what items you have.

I've found two - a mage's staff and a mage's amulet. I'm playing a Marauder.

Not awesome-looking, no, nor much less than the cost of a copy of D3. For example, simply making your weapon glow azure costs >$5. I bought the $10 pack of points just because I thought that getting a very good game for free was worth paying for :). That got me an azure glow for my weapon and an extra stash tab and the option to change the name and colour of it. I'll probably buy some more stash tabs at some point. I'm a pack rat for this sort of game, especially with the vendor recipes. A tab or two for rare weapons, a tab or two for rare armours, a couple of tabs for kit I might want for future characters...I could easily make use of many tabs.

You can buy animations too, e.g.

There's one for each class. 70 points each. $5 buys 46 points. You'd need to spend at least $45 just to buy the dance for each class (6x70 = 420. 2x$20 pack and $5 pack would get you 446 points).

The optional effects are expensive. For example, this weapon effect is cool:

It's 200 points. That'll cost you $20.

I think buying extra stuff is more about paying the people behind the game than what you actually get for your money.

I have found 1 unique so far, but it is a quiver and I'm a mara! I will be rolling a ranger too though so it can be kept for her.

Have also bought some coins and got a blue glow and 3 or 4 customizable stash tabs. Well worth the money considering the fun I have had out of this game so far.

Developers like this deserve money thrown at them tbh :)

^ ive found 12 unique's so far.....i had to buy the custom stash tab pack stash was just filled with items so fast

the devs really do deserve it like..the game is amazing
im currently lvl 74 farming Docks/Maps and city of sarn for easy loot

Does anyone know if buying the Premium Stash bundle for 200 points will upgrade the original 4 tabs to premium also, or will they need to be purchased separately?
