Path of Exile(diablo clone)

Argggghhhhh, kinda getting stuck doing Act1 Merc, finding upgrades is so damn hard, everyone is selling items (but no prices), nobody is providing ing names, no prices just offers, going to get boring really fast. Was having a really great time getting to lvl 60.

I've a few questions:

What do the letters in red in the top right of some skill icons mean? I've got two with an 'l' or 'i' on them and I've had a 'w' and an 'f' in the past.

Do support gems in a weapon work for the standard attack with that weapon? e.g. if I have life leech in a gem in a weapon, does the standard attack leech or is it only a special attack in a linked gem slot?

How can I find the couple of thousand orbs of fusing needed to stand a good chance of getting my slots linked? There isn't even a vendor recipe for them.

The red in the top right of skills are the support gems attached to those skills.

Support Gems do not work for the base attack only the skill they are linked with.

Tbh unless your onto merciless I wouldn't try to roll the perfect armour since you will replace it very rapidly.

Also in Act 3 one of the vendors lets you trade up to orbs of fusing if i remember correctly.

what class/build are you?

no the 4 tabs stay 1- 4

Yeah :(

Do you guys follow builds on the forums etc. or just wing it? The skill tree is overwhelming

I've been planning ahead but winging it. Made a few changes along the way and some of what I've already taken will need respeccing but nothing major. I need to stop making builds that use the maximum number of points and plan for 70-90 maximum to start with.

I know what you mean. I bought a few good items from someone when I was in Act 3 Normal (he gave me a good deal since I was a newbie) and since then I haven't seen anything to buy bow wise that is better. The only thing obvious choice is the Deaths Harp but that thing costs Gemcutters and I've never even seen one never mind had enough to buy it!

I did buy a Geofri's Maul yesterday for 2 Chaos for my lvl27 Marauder. Was insane, his damage pretty much tripled with Heavy Strike and went from ~180 to over 600.

Do note that there are 'recipes' of what to sell to a vendor to get a particualr thing in return, which can help when trying to get specific gems/orbs.

(example: multiple commons with 'quality' adding up to 40% or more -> a particular orb)

I can't link from here, but the PoE wiki has a page called "vendor recipes" that details some of them. Might be old news, but then again might be useful.

I've finally got the right build for me at my level. Woo!

I'm a L43 Marauder on late Act 1 cruel. I wasn't doing enough damage, so when I found a totemic mace with 4 red gem slot (3 of them linked), I crafted it to a rare and got +78% physical damage and decided to go with the well known ground slam marauder. Lots of damage, but I was getting slaughtered.

So I tweaked the build. Back to a 1H mace (rare petrified club with 3 linked red slots, good bonuses and 20% quality) and a shield. Ground slam and heavy strike on the club, both linked to a life gain on hit that gives me 24hp per hit, which is a fair bit more than either skill costs. I've taken life leech passives as much as I can, plus resists...it's basically the standard ground slam marauder with extra mace damage skills. DPS is reduced a fair bit, but I do not die. With 2H standard ground slam marauder, Brutus stunned and quickly killed me. With this modified 1H ground slam marauder, I didn't even need to use a potion. Straightforward chaining heavy strike. I stumbled into a nasty pack outside - The Burning Menace, a named bearded devil underboss thingy and a whole slew of bearded devils and those lupine things that set the ground on fire when they die...and I walked through it. A bit of equipment management and I have 1400 armour and 75% resist cold, fire and lightning. With 5 superior colossal health flasks (I've taken blood magic, so no need for mana), a heavy single target attack, an area of effect ranged attack and sizeable hp gain on each hit (which is every time - I've taken resolute technique), I'm laughing. All I want now is a 4L 1H mace so I can add life leech on hit as well, or maybe elemental damage.

I heartily recommend this modified ground slam marauder build if you're around the same level. It rocks.

HAHAHAAH ignore :D.

Taking the ring/necklace off means I don't have enough stats for my helm, which means I lose extra resistances :p.

I know that feeling :p

Got some gloves a few days ago for my Ranger with a red slot on them so thought 'Hey maybe I can put that Rejuvination Totem gem on my second kit onto my main kit incase I need it'. Req 98 Strength. Without the bonus my alt kit I get 96 Strength. /fail ><

I can see why people farm the Dock on Act 3. I just got upto it on Cruel and after suffering through the Flicker Strike/Discharge Undying (who are EXTREMELY deadly sometimes) in the Warehouses and Sewers, then large mobs of the Undying Monkeys with Puncture in the Marketplace, I got to the Battlefront only to find the Blackhand Guards were pretty easy to kill, then got to the Docks. The basic skeletons are no threat at all to a Ranger. The Spirits have a bit of speed to them but are still pretty straightforward and the Voidbeasts that are only an threat with the right set of buffs on a boss.

A word of advice to people too. When you complete the 'The Way Forward' quest in Act 2 to open that passage into Prisoners Gate, don't forget to go back to Lioneyes Camp and talk to Bestel. It dawned on me at lvl51 that I hadn't actually spoken to him on either difficulty so I'd missed 2 passive points ><

My optimism was, well, overly optimistic :)

I'm getting slaughtered in Act 2 cruel. I think the problem is chaos damage, because anything that isn't physical or elemental really rips into me. I haven't seen anything with chaos resistance yet, apart from one low-end rare torso armour with a bit of chaos res that was rubbish for everything else.

I have finally calmed down a bit :D, started doing maps on my own, done about 10 now, good thing is that most of the time you get another map inside. I seem do be doing well, I managed to do lvl 66, 67, and 68 so far, back to lvl 66 again as this is what i got. Not bothered about upgrading my gear anymore, trying to get RRRRG item but it proves to be out of my reach.

This game is superb! Just started playing it today as a Shadow. The graphics, music and overall atmosphere are nice and grim. I never liked D3's cartoony graphics. I really like the final fantasy-esque skill and gem system.

I'm enjoying it as well!

hit level 20 as a Marauder last night. Moved in to Act II. Lag is a bit of a killer (literally in some instances) but it is to be expected at peak times for a beta!

It's borrowed some of my favorite elements of games, the gem/skill system from FF10. The gritty perspective of D2 :)

Love it!

I heard about the lag before, but luckilyI didn't experience any yesterday. I think I got to level 8. Unfotunately, after I killed the crab boss in the underground tunnels and I TP'd, whilst in town the portal disappeared and when I used the waypoint to get back to the cave the whole thing had reset, so I lost the loot it dropped. Killed the crab again with some cool traps.

I'd like to support these guys, but it's tricky deciding what to buy. Maybe one of the pets. Too bad those glowy things can only be used once from the look of it. It would be better if you could buy something which made all of your helmets/gloves etc glow. Otherwise when you find a better item you will have to get rid of your glowy one.

Buy extra stash slots, you'll definitely want them later on.
