Path of Exile(diablo clone)

I heard about the lag before, but luckilyI didn't experience any yesterday. I think I got to level 8. Unfotunately, after I killed the crab boss in the underground tunnels and I TP'd, whilst in town the portal disappeared and when I used the waypoint to get back to the cave the whole thing had reset, so I lost the loot it dropped. Killed the crab again with some cool traps.

I'd like to support these guys, but it's tricky deciding what to buy. Maybe one of the pets. Too bad those glowy things can only be used once from the look of it. It would be better if you could buy something which made all of your helmets/gloves etc glow. Otherwise when you find a better item you will have to get rid of your glowy one.

Town Portals vanish when the area they're in 'resets' if nobody has been in it for 8-15 minutes.

I think the item glows are 'reclaimed'. At least that is the impression I got from the patch notes. It binds the item to you and prevents it been merched until you reclaim the effect, so you can use it as many times as you like but only on 1 item at a time.

Buy extra stash slots, you'll definitely want them later on.

I'm about to cave in and buy my second set of 6 premium stash tabs ><

Piety was... rather easy on my Marauder. The General hurt like hell thanks to his Molten Shell. Kole was so retardedly OP, he could 2 shot me so I just ignored him. Piety I just stood in front of her and battered her to death with my Geofri's Baptism and she didn't do a great deal.

A word of advice for Marauders. Get 'Resolute Technique' sooner rather than later. I finally got it at lvl35/36, halfway through Lunaris Temple level 3 and it makes so much difference. Was just bouncing around with Leapslam for most mobs and instead of it sometimes missing it was just smashing everything I landed on, absolutely hilarious :D

started merciless on my ranger last night. oh man i need better gear the xp death hit it insane :(

I beat Piety earlier on Cruel (what a tedious fight that was with her Ice Arrow 2 shotting me and the fact she transformed EVERY 5 SECONDS! Took around 3 deaths

Merciless was going quite smoothly till I got up to Haildrake. Talk about ridiculously OP. If I kept him at range his Ice Spear would freeze me easily if I didn't avoid it, if I attempted to tank him his regular attack would do 1000 damage when I only have 1100hp! In the end I played ring around the rock with him using Puncture... then got myself killed when he was 1 shot to kill... then went back and got myself instagibbed by Ice Spear cos I wasn't paying attention. 45% exp gone :(

Started playing this morning as a ranger (always go ranger / hunter class first :D) Only really had time go et to the first "shop" bit but the size of the spec map is amazing :D

Might keep me away from finishing Torchlight 2 for a bit this one :)

This is awesome, I just got a Corpse Detonate gem so I am exploding bodies everywhere just like the Necromancer in D2! I just set a fire trap then bear trap which kills 1 monster and damages the rest, then I detonate it and kill everything in a bloody mess.

I just picked that skill up as well, quite fun :D

Just killed the necromancer in the fetid pools, really liking the amount of customization possible in this game its awesome :D

Stash tabs. You will almost certainly want more stash tabs after a while, when you start storing items in order to fill vendor recipes for orbs or for storing alternative equipment sets for characters in other classes that you might play in the future.

I've sent them $20. I bought a weapon glow as a sign of support visible to other players (thinking that it might encourage some other people to send the developers something). The rest went on tabs. I've filled them. I'd have 50 stash tabs if I could. I have 4 stash tabs filled with rare items alone, just waiting to get 3 rares with the same name.

It's not made very clear, but the glowing effects are transferable from item to item. I've transferred my weapon glow half a dozen times. You bring up your inventory and the in-game microtransactions window, select "Reclaim Effect" from the transactions window and click on the item you have the effect on. That puts the effect back into your transactions window, ready to be applied to another item. With recent patches, it seems impossible to lose an effect (e.g. you can't sell an item with an effect applied to it).

Absolutely. I'm using Ground Slam and Heavy Strike, but the same principle applies regardless of what skills you use.

I also suggest Blood Magic and as much health gain on hit as you can get, along with as much health as you can get and as much life leech on hit as you can get.

Never miss. Can constantly chain any skill. Groups of mobs usually heal you rather than damaging you if you use an AoE skill (like ground slam). Ground slam for groups, heavy strike for individual mobs (DPS is about twice as high).

The biggest problem I'm finding on cruel difficulty is chaos damage, which seems to be everything apart from physical or elemental. 20% vulnerability is a problem and I've no way to do anything about that.

yeah he is a pain. i think i went 0% xp in knowing he's 5 lvl above me and i'll just grind him to death as i had nothing to lose anyway :p

I really should've gone back to Docks and farmed up a few levels I think.

Piety dropped (shockingly) quite a nice Evasion chest piece, though it had 1 int socket on it. Used about 15 Jewellers and eventually got a 5 socket (with 3 Dex 2 Int which was ideal, though 6 sockets would've been nice as its /itemlevel is high enough), then I used all my 12 Fusings and the best I got was 4 linked slots :(

I just don't know what to use the 4 GCP + 4 Chaos I got for my Exalted Orb on. I can't decide whether Deaths Harp is actually as awesome as it sounds or if its only so valuable because it has a really low level req on it too. Or whether I want a quality Frenzy or Mana Leech. Or whether I just want any old bow so long as it hits hard since I'm not too fussed about sockets in it now that I have an ideal set up in my chest armour.

that depends on your setup, i haven't even looked at what bow i want, as i'm still waiting for life leech to drop for me  until then my spec isn't finished :(

my main farm setup will most likely be 6-slot ice shot or lightning arrow - multiple - faster attacks - life leech - added ele dmg

and then probably elemental hit for boss fights

Can anyone explain why the shadow should use evasion armour instead of just "armour" armour?

Armour is crap is the jist of it. From what I've gathered from threads I've looked at on the forums, the formula behind armour and the 'physical damage reduction %' that the Defence tab states have absolutely nothing in common. Armour works on the basis that the lower the damage of the attack, the more damage it reduces (relative to the amount you have).

So a 100 damage attack could be reduced to 10, but a 1000 damage attack would be reduced to maybe 800, if that. In some ways I guess it is to mimic 'armour penetration' from hard hitting boss mobs but you need something like 10x the armour of the damage inflicted for it to reduce a reasonable amount. Someone had done calculations that basically showed that for lower damage, armour is great, but for high damage hits, Endurance Charges make much more difference. And of course, the Shadow has basically no armour nodes near him and nothing to boost number of Endurance Charges.

I've gone for a physical crit ranger rather than elemental. So my ideal set up for 6 slots (for damage) would be Increased Crit Strikes + Damage, Faster Attacks, Mana Leech and probably Life Leech. That would at least give me the option of swapping to a farming 'Item Rarity + Item Quantity' build. Either way I really just need a high damage bow atm but getting a head start on levelling some good Quality gems could be handy too.

well got a high dmg bow at the moment, shame it is only physical and only blue :(

wasted all my chaos orbs last night on 2 6 socket bows and i roll stuff like adds 1-4 fire damage

Jumped on a low level shadow cos I wanted to see how Vaal Pact + Ghost Reaver + Claws + Chaos Innoculation went. Coming along nicely so far, had an epic amount of luck in 'The Cave'. Got an Alchemy and a Blessed Orb from the same mob, then later on a bear dropped a Portal gem :D

Portal spam!!!!!

so this is free to play or will i need to spend cash to play properly? via micro transactions?

TBH I prefer traditional pay model of purchase a playable game.

Definately free! Micro transactions are mostly cosmetic (different spell effects, weapon glows, pets etc) the only thing you may want to get much later on are the extra stash slots. That said I only got those to support the devs really, I had some store credits from purchasing closed beta key I havnt even completely filled the default ones yet

It's free and more than playable, there were a few minor hiccups at the launch of open beta (dcs) but these are sorted now...and the good thing is, the only advantage you could get from any real money purchases are extra bank space. GGG are against p2win games so it should stay that way (I hope lol)

Game is just awesome, it really is :)

edit: should add also, the extra bank spaces are pretty cheap and you wont find yourself needing new ones every 2 mins either so don't let that put you off.
