PATIENCE - IF PLANNING TO BUY A 50 SERIES..........

Just buy a Steam Deck to hold you over!
Just buy a Steam Deck full stop :D
Like the original poster sold my 4090 at the beginning of the month but the PS5 Pro and Steam Deck are keeping me very much entertained.... so much so that I'm starting to question if I really do need a £2000+ GPU

Alright that has killed the hype and managed my expectations, but I 100% appreciate it.
My venerable 6950XT has to keep me company for at least another 4-5 months then.

Can't see the Astral 5080 selling out that quickly if it's £1800 or some silly price.
Were you not around when the 30 series launched ... people were happily paying £2000 for a 3080 Strix so the Astral at £1800 should be considered a bargain

I guess that's true, if someone does desperately want a 50 series the rip off Astral and other overpriced models might give you a slight advantage in the first 30s.

Yeh I find that hard to believe as well.

Best not to feed into the hype. Sometimes the expectation of demand/shortage leads to exactly that....it's just a self fulfilling prophecy.

I don't see why anyone with a good 4xxx card is going to be that desperate to get one of these apart from very rich people for which money is no object and want a 5090.

For everyone else, what is there to be excited about that you can't wait a few months for? A ~20% uplift in raster and some new frame gen tech that will take a while to be implemented in loads of games? Meh.
100% I mean you only have to look at the general consensus of the Tech Tuber videos that have released since the CES announcement to know this gen is overpriced and DOA.

Obviously those tubers that get free cards and etaielrs will hype it up a bit to sell them but not on this planet or any planet is more people hyped for this than they were with the 40x series release.

I cannot believe some sold their 4090s even after knowing the performance uplift and the fact that it's never easy getting any GPU on release.

I'd rather lose a couple of hundred £ than sell my GPU before banking my bets on trying to get 1 on release.

They never learn.

The chatter has been definitely subdued for this release, even from the more vocal nV mouth pieces you'd expect to see hype messages and videos at this point.

There's simply a lot of pent up demand. There really hasn't been a lot for ethusiasts to "waste" money on of late save the 9800x3d which has been out of stock for the most part. And although a bit frumpy and she expects you to buy her fancy jewelery, the 5090 is essentially the only girl worth asking to dance at this prom. The cool girl (9070xt) is sitting outside in her car smoking and will, as usual, show up right as the party's over and you've already committed :)

I was being delusional until I read this post and was optimistic I'd get a 5080 at launch
Sold my 4080 Super then the very same day I saw the performance difference between the 4080 and 5080 is not much and instantly regretted it.

I sold my 4090 last November while prices were high at the time, I figured well might as well sell now just incase prices fall as we get closer too CES25, I've been pretty happy with the PS5 Pro and while I love PC gaming sometimes I have started to question if I really want to buy a £1200+ GPU again (5080/90)
