PC Game Pass (was Xbox Game Pass for PC)

@strumpusplunket Damn, that's disappointing, really hoped you could keep playing once you had it installed. Might be worth leaving them some feedback regarding this, not sure how much notice they will take but it can't hurt.

Publishers are the ones who decide when a game leaves Game Pass (probably to align to another service for more money usually!!). MS do not have any say over it other than they demand a minimum of 12 months availability I think.

Cheers. Yeah, it is. I might leave feedback. Hadn't really thought about that, but the fact we're still in beta with this might mean feedback is picked up more, who knows...

It's not the fact that games will leave the Pass that bothers me. It's the lack of communication and transparency that led me to sink time into something that I didn't know was going to leave the pass so suddenly.

If I hadn't Googled for "new games on Game Pass" a couple of days ago when I saw a post on here about some forthcoming inclusions, I wouldn't have even known why the game disappeared from my account this morning. As it was, I still didn't know exactly what the implications were given that I'd already installed and started it. I looked all over their site for information on games leaving, how to get notifications of this and what happens to installed games that leave, but I couldn't find anything even after searching.

@strumpusplunket Over the last couple of weeks it displayed on the home screen that games were leaving soon (and which ones).

It's not great, I agree - though no different to Netflix or Amazon Video in that you don't get much advance warning of departure.

Where is this on the homescreen? You mean in the Xbox beta app? It would be good to keep track of without having to check Twitter or something. I've been using the app quite regularly, but I didn't notice anything. I see a few categories with headlines, and I did notice some "newly added" notices, but I haven't seen anything I noticed about games leaving. I may just not have been very observant, of course (my wife would probably say this is the most likely explanation...).

My preferred method of communication would be an eye-catching notice on the page for the game itself on the store, or a warning when you click install that you only have X days left, but I guess they don't want to make too much out of the issue of games leaving.

On reflection, after the initial disappointment of having to put The Surge aside for now (definitely going to finish the remaining third or so once I see a deal), I have to say that I have enjoyed a lot about having access to the Pass overall.

It's encouraged me to try games I probably wouldn't have otherwise bothered with. Chances are, if I'm being honest, I'd probably never have got around to The Surge at all without it, given the other 100 or so games on my Steam wishlist.

I've also dabbled in Hellblade, Superhot and State of Decay 2, and I'm glad I didn't buy any of these because they didn't really grab me. Plus, I played through West of Loathing, which I probably would never have bought, but which ended up being a lot of fun. Also very glad I got to finish The Outer Worlds without feeling I'd overpaid for it. And I installed Metro Exodus overnight.

I guess you gotta take the rough with the smooth...

Yeah, there's a banner saying "Games Leaving Soon - 30/11" and then you click on it and it brings up Football Manager 2019 and Abzu. I think it's a fairly new addition as I've not spotted it before and this app has been out since GamesCom in August, IIRC.

There doesn't seem to be a permanent? quick way of accessing the "Leaving Soon" page though so you can always check it as needed.

Ah, found it - it's on of those banners that cycles through several displays!

I just clicked through the tabs and noticed the final banner is the "leaving game pass" one. I've never sat with that banner displaying long enough for it to cycle to that display on its own, so I never saw it.

I think they could do more to make this visible, but at least I know where it is now. Cheers.

They could definitely improve the "games leaving soon thing" by at least putting a tag next to any games you've installed on the left to say what date it's leaving.

I subbed the 3 month for £1 ultimate and installed a few games including Metro Exodus on both the PC and XBox. I had hoped the save games would sync between the 2 but it seems not. Shame.

I signed up for the 3 month sub for a quid and while the game pass itself works fine, the offer also mentioned 6 months free Spotify Premium and 1 month EA Access as being included - trouble is I have no idea how to activate these??

I tried web chatting with the game pass people but they couldn't tell me how to do it without having the Xbox dashboard, which you presumably get when you have an actual Xbox?!?

Has anyone got any idea how to "activate" these 2 extra offers?

"Your code for 6 months of Spotify Premium will be sent via email and the console or Xbox (Beta) appmessage center, following your purchase of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (this can take a few days). The codes must be redeemed at the Spotify website listed in the message or email. Then, it’s time to get gaming and start listening."

I assume the spotify code will come to your email, might have to give it a few days maybe

It took three weeks to get my Spotify code when they did a similar offer in October, so you might have to be a bit patient.

Yeah thats what I loved about it, just games I wouldn't have tried. Though personally I love Hellblade but we're all different. I think the best find for me on game pass has been Dead Cells, definitely something I never would have gone for ordinarily.

I can't seem to find the banner you guys have mentioned saying games leaving soon. Although I have just noticed a warning symbol over Abzu which I have installed saying its leaving soon, so that's pretty good if they've just added that extra warning.
