PC Nostalgia (Pick a moment in time)

Sitting down with my Uncle, installing Doom from floppy disks. Him showing me the ropes, then leaving me in the study until the room was pitch black. Can't remember how young I was. Then rinse and repeat for most command and conquer games.

a good lan party is what i miss.

remember being able to kill someone then throw em a cheeky grin, the fun, noise, banter of the evening
was always great.

unreal
quake
mdk

then mohaa just took over our nights

some great laughs on crimson skies, revolt came into its own as well all raced then spent the rest of
the week modding the cars altering the txt file, that was fun.

then the network play started to disappear from titles leading to the lone bedroom player of today.

quite sad really.

Today is all about trend following.

Wasn't there Cannon Fodder Quake 3 servers? I also recall them hosting Quake 3 Fortress servers or am I thinking another Cannon something...

LAN parties were fantastic. We have a proper setup in the student flat. I'm amazed I passed my exams with all the gaming that went down.

Going into OcUk when they used to be based in Fenton (tiny place) and picking up the bits for my 1st 'gaming' pc. AMD 3500 & 6800GT :D

I remember playing on my dads computer back in the mid 90's him over clocking it from 33mhz to 66mhz with switches on the board and loading Screamer (racing game) in DOS. when I really started to get into it we went to a computer fair and bought an AMD 2600 XP Barton which was amazing at the time but we had plenty of P3's between then. 80GB hard drive and then I purchased an NVIDIA 5200 256MB card so I could attempt to play Counter Strike.

I wasn't allowed to play Doom or unreal when they came out or Beavers and Butthead due to age restrictions and my dad! I also remember downloading a song via Kazaa and my dad having to get rid of viruses for many hours :D

Mine are all gaming related:

1992 - Sensible Soccer was the game my friends and I would play on my Amiga for hours at a time.
1995 - My friend and I networked up our Pentium PCs with 10BASE2 coax (my goodness it was a PITA the get networks working then) and played Command & Conquer instead of going to University lectures
2002 - My first real foray into competitive online gaming and my first clan experiences playing Battlefield 1942. This introduced me to proper high end GFX cards and the worlds of IRC and online game server hosting when you used to have to rent them.

Thanks so your saying a 478 motherboard with agp 3.3v agp 1.0 would be compatible with a pentium 4 and a voodoo 3? If you could suggest some actual boards I could buy that be great. As my current one is uncompatible.

Scour eBay for anything with a sis 645 chipset. Early 840 chipset boards would work too but they are use rd ram and are pretty rare. Also a different 423 socket. There are not as many options as I first thought.

A ASUS P4S533 would look to work as would a Abit SA7. Not easy to find though.

The easiest way to build a system with a voodoo card with a quick CPU would be a Socket A Athlon with a older Via chipset like KT133 or KT266 (and some KT333), they are easy to find and cost nothing.

Getting old now. But the standout moments for me would be.

Elite Force, being a trekkie immersed me into my first online fps. Good people, great game and I was probably at my gaming peak skill wise lol.

BeachMP_demo.Exe, iirc. RTCW, blew me away, ww2 setting, teamwork, bloody good maps.

Wake Island demo, BF1942 and mods were the best of the bf series.

Neocron, Never ever been as immersed in a game.

Thanks for the info on athlon chopsets all I want is the cheapest option to get my voodoo 3 up and running I need a cpu, board and psu and ram. I am new to a lot of this so simple language would be appreciated. And just a build list. Of parts to get

DOD 1.3b DOD_SEG3, never had such gaming perfection since.

I did also find my original voodoo in the garage and a couple of voodoo 2's
