Permabanned members

Even Maccy says so. OCUK is doing a new free holiday competition if you mention the special location.

I have no idea what the stupid brown bear thing even is

Considering how some of the "now permabanned" members had spent months, sometimes years, spouting off xenophobic nonsense and racist dog-whistling it might be nice for the rest of the forum users to have confirmation of the reason for their removal from the forum(s).

Secondly it *just might* act as more of a deterrent from others spewing the same kind of toxic views when they see other's have been banned for it.

Whilst that's an attractive theory to some posters here and maybe even some of the mods one can't help but notice that some of the more prolific accounts of socialists/"progressives'/ 'lefties' etc have also taken a permanent forum break

I haven't been keeping track of them all but Amigafan2003 and chroniclard come to my mind. Of course they may have been banned for other reasons, like MM breaches.

From my perspective the forum isn't what it once was for lively and sometimes quite adversarial threads. Can't say that I'm all that surprised really.... still a bit strange that a computer store kept an associated forum open in anything like the current year where non computer related politics was a subject open for discussion!

After all.... even keeping something as ostensibly tame as a GPU or CPU sub forum in some sort of order is a quite a daunting task for a set of mods!

Creates traffic - or supposed to but attracts the wrong type of people to a tech forum.

At a guess, right now it attracts more of the right people - customers - than the wrong people - non-customers. However, it's a virtuous circle in that some of the wrong people create content that attracts more of the right people.

Might be me not appreciating people who purchase fewer computer related items than me but I have a list of companies I deem reliable enough to purchase from (in case there's an issue with the sale or the product after sale) and I just tend to go for the cheapest one with stock available to me sooner rather than later.

Only ocuk stats could answer that for the traffic here. However within the last few months I see posts not being answered fast like before. I see posts now that can go a week before someone responds to it. There is still a lot of unanswered threads floating about. That would seem to me traffic is declining. But I’m not an OCUK stat monster.

I said on one day in 2024.
You’ve already failed at the first hurdle.
You now don’t get a chance to ask.

Did I mention that there’s only one chance to guess?

Ask what? You didn’t say it as a question nor did you say it as it was the only chance to guess.

Also who was your reply 2 you didn’t include a quote from whoever you were speaking 2.

Accounts get perma'd when members ask for their accounts to be closed too.

Might just be my perception but I don't recall seeing so many historical posts from permabanned-ees. :)

When I've been having a leisurely trawl through these forums it seems to me I'm seeing a lot more posts in threads where a member has been permabanned. Is this just something I've only just noticed or are permabans on the rise? Have we recently got a new mod with an itchy trigger finger?

If they keep perma banning everyone there won’t be any one left.
