petrol prices

110.9 for me today, first time it's gone above 110 around here. For some reason the guy at the next pump filled up his Passat then proceeded to fill up a number of those huge NATO fuel cans too. He'd have been better off yesterday lol it was 2p cheaper.

Businesses can claim VAT back on their fuel, so it's reasonable to assume that the Govt. may have made a similar provision as an incentive for motorists to use it.

Why? You have to pay VAT whether you use it in a deep fan fryer or an engine. Why is there an incentive to use it? It probably is no less polluting than just burning petroleum fuels.

The only reason the limit is 2,500l is that it would cost them more to get the tax than the actual value of the tax on lower volumes than 2,500l

Just filled up, £85! :(

Geothermal would be poor here, I know Southampton aimed to be self sufficient after the oil crisis of 1976 but only 8% (or something around there) of the city is run off the geothermal plant there.

It's used mainly to heat the civic centre and council buildings, does well but your right, not really a mass thing. Thinking that energy productions going to be like that though, I little from lots of sources, so wind, solar, tidal etc rather than one fuel providing most of the power

Depends on what sort of driving I do - I got 400 miles from the last tank, half motorway, half town/country stuff. Seen it as low as 200 miles from a tank with all town/country stuff.

to me, yes. To others, obviously not. Fwiw, I see Hummers as completely an utterly ridiculous vehicles.

You have just suggested that, in your opinion, the 530i Sport is not a performance car therefore it should get better fuel economy.

Since when is performance and mpg linked?

I tell you what if I had to give up my Fuel Card/Company Car, id seriously just get poxy small car, i had a micra on hire a few weeks ago, i got 90 miles from £10 of petrol on the motorway, and tbh it quite happily sat on the m-way at 80-90mph, and it was pleasent enough for the daily commute imo.

My ST costs £55 to fill up and at a push, i can get 330miles, generally i get no more than 260-270 miles,I couldnt stomach that kind of mpg out of my own pocket, i dont know how some of you guys do it.

25mpg and it isn't even a performance car, ouch :/

you came out in my car on sunday didnt you? didnt you notice the average fuel consumption on the trip computer right next to you? :p

it was aproximitely 13.1mpg at that point, and i only have 200 horsies

err since forever, you being dense or what? It seems pretty obvious that more fuel = more power = more performance.

That was hardly everyday driving now though was it ;)

I agree, the H2 especially because it's even got a **** engine.
At least the H1 had something, it was a tank but the diesel engine could take it places.

It's the biggest "My nob is about an inch long and I'm boring" car ever.

Just my opinion though, I've always had a hatred for 4x4's which can't offroad and just get used in the city.

What with that Nigerian pipeline explosion, I expect the oil companies to rub their hands as panicking traders push prices higher :(
