Philips 20" 200W6CS Widescreen TFT LCD

you sure, jsut read through the topic again and-

'it comes with a power cable (kettle lead), DVi cable (already plugged in), VGA cable, and audio cable. I didn't use the DVI cable it came with since i already got one and it was plugged into the existing 17" TFT. So I did a quick swap, moved the 17" TFT onto the VGA channel and use the DVI for the Phillips.'

so mind at ease now - unless his was a refurb also!

Has anyone got a real confirmation from Philips about the panel type of the monitor?

I asked them via email today and they just avoided the question but specified it had 8ms on/off response time , they were very specific with this and said "8ms on/off , not grey to grey". Also they pointed me to an update of the specs at
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/2/200w6cs_00/200w6cs_00_pss_eng.pdf

Now the spec sheet first says 8ms on/off and then later in the same text says 8ms (typical) grey/grey

Is 8ms on/off better than grey/grey?

Anyway i just bought this screen aswell since it's £150 cheaper than the Nec here in Sweden and 200W6CS/00 is for sure a lot better than my Fujitsu-siemens C19-4 (same AUO panel as VP930).
I've tried some games like COD2 and Fear, there's no ghosting at all even in the fastest sequences and the colors look much better than on my C19-4.
No backlight bleeding either on my model.

I also asked about the production date and they said the 5th and 6th digit in the serial number is the year of production, 7th and 8th is the month. For me that would be 0604 which would mean my screen hasnt even been produced yet!? Weird

Anyway it's a great screen and worth every penny but it would be nice to know if it's got the S-IPS panel or not.
I saw on some other forum that IPS screens should have an violet tone to the black when looked at from the side, but is this true also for S-IPS screens?

I lvoe my monitor, only problem I have is the supplised dvi cable is to short, what kind of dvi cable do I need? need at least 3m
thanks for help

Got my Philips, one lit red pixel near the border, but so small can't really see it, in fact due to the angle not noticeable at all. Black levels are quite poor as usual with LCD, backlight is quite uneven compared to a LCD 32" TV and three laptops.

Good picture, pretty happy with it overall. Speakers aren't that bad. Auto switching analogue + digital input (using two devices into it)

Received my Philips this morning, screen's quite impressive...however, let down by 2 lazy pixels....can't recover them no matter how hard I try, backlight bleed is minimal but nevertheless apparent.....RMA time

the built-in speakers any good? else i think its a waste of space if i have to use other speakers for sound.
I tested them right now. They're a waste of space for me. I mean I wouldn't listen to music on them.

For computer beeps and whatnot I guess it's acceptable, for everything else... not really.

yeh theyre as good (or bad) as any other monitor speakers ive ever come across- they are just for sound events within windows i imagine. music starts distorting once you start going above 50% and bass plain sucks.

I wouldnt say they are a waste of space since they are underneath and therefore dont take up anymore of a desk- what would u have under the monitor anyways. In a way it kinda helps the monitor look more solid i think. course you couldnt tile em :p

one of the main reason im choosing to get a tft is too save as much space as possible and if i get this tft, i will keep thinking i couldve got a smaller size tft without built-in speakers. im paranoid i know :)

whats a good alternative to this tft?

It’s not that much space really, the built-in speakers are about 3.5 centimeters high. Look for some pics in this topic to see what it’s like.

If you're looking for something else in the 20" WS department there are some alternatives. Read some more topics here ;)

Thank you very much for that much need information. I was one of those who purchased the Xerox 19" but sent it back because of the confusion with the panel.

I also purchased the Belinea 20" widescreen, but also returned that because of a fault with the screen (blessing in disguise).

Thanks for the responses, I most definetely am going to purchase this monitor now.

Thanks again everyone. ;)

hi

i,m thinkking of getting this is just wo things, the whole thing about the 16ms and 8 ms and another question hhow do you find out about the dead pixels?

could you any graphic card to display at full resloution and support this tft, budget card like the geforce fx5200 on its DVI socket for example.

thanks
I had an Iiyama CRT display (not DVI) before the Philips.
When I connected the Philips to the PC, Windows (XP) and the GeForce 6600GT just sorted everything out.

I think I may have done this:
Right-click the desktop, select Properties then the Settings tab. The Screen resolution slider should have 1680x1050 as its right-most position. Then click OK.
I didn't use the CD that came with the monitor. You should find all the GeForce capabilities are in its properties here:
On the Settings tab from above, click Advanced and there should be a tab for your adaptor
