[PIC_THREAD] Landscapes, Architecture, Seascapes

Not a stunning picture, I admit, but not a view of Oxford that you see very often. This was taken from the roof of the hospital. Just a pity the main architecture in the middle of town is nearly always either covered in scaffolding or has a crane nearby.

It was my first day with my 70d so I had a bit of a walkaround. I ended up not too far from the house ready for the sunset as I thought this view would be decent.

These are all single exposures and I kinda wish I'd had my tripod for a few HDRs too. I've boosted the blacks/shadows on one shot to see what it's like. It's a bit noisy obviously but interesting to see what can be recovered.

Here's a few different shots :)

The first one is great, very dramatic and dynamic. Pitty about the people (I would be tempted to removed them).

Cheers D.P, thanks for the comments. I took a set of shot of this scene so I think I have some without the people. I picked this one to post as I felt the people gave it some scale.

I really like the second one, but I agree with DP, I would be tempted to remove the people in PS.

Thanks Genoma cheers for looking.

my favourite is the last one, lovely, fluid motion captured in the waves that are accented by the flow in the cloud cover.

Thanks for the comments shaggyd.

2nd photograph of 2013 :( just a quick grab shot during a coffee break - need to get my finger out as I've been asked to do a talk at Perth Camera Club next season.

Anyway, this is the Isle of May @200mm through the Haar on a fairly bleak afternoon. Preferred the 3:2 aspect ratio over a pano crop to enhance the sense of isolation, albeit introducing a lot of white space..

All shot on large format 5x4 velvia 50.

Heh - there's some good stuff in here! no putting anyone to shame!

I actually spent about 3 hours walking up and down the beach looking for EXACTLY the right patterns in the sand, so sad lol.

Just about to start shooting some landscape on my Sinar 5x4 ;)

Do you use ND grads ?

Stunning shots btw :D

aha! a fellow LF photographer, we're pretty rare these days 8)

Yes - I have a full set of Lee filters, they're a pain because each one is made to order but they're worth it, because they're the only filters (that I know about) which are totally neutral and don't introduce any casts.

I mostly use a 0.9 hard grad (3 stops) but sometimes I use a 0.9 AND a 0.3 to balance the exposure, Velvia 50 has such rubbish latitude.
