Exactly that

I had to crop off the tip of the nose because they have a sheet of glass to stop people touching it which was reflecting a tonne of light and had a railing

i also had to crop the front bottom because the rest of the images were to high due to the angle of them taken

I guess it's just one of those things! this was purely an experiment though

That's how I learn basically :) Just trying stuff out and seeing what works and where I go wrong. It's annoying when you can't get the shot you want because there's something in the way!

A couple from RAFA Shoreham this weekend.

We didn't pay to go in this year, but rather just walked around along the river. With just a 200mm lens this makes a huge difference to the photos you take (a good 700 or 800 metres further away than on the airfield) and the weather was terrible on the Saturday - low cloud, grey sky and no sunlight. Still, that lent itself to a couple of moody aerobatic shots.

The weather was better today, but I didn't go out again.

The first shot seems better to me although I might have tried to get rid of that bit of yellowish smoke from the middle :)

I was up on the east hill today and yesterday and today was definitely better although there was still quite a lot of cloud.

Last year was similar on the Sunday and I did some moody more stylised shots then too with my processing so I suspect there will be a few of those!

Today was alright although there was no Vulcan! Since I'd already got a lot of half decent shots I decided to get more adventurous with my exposure length and tried some 1/90 and even 1/60 with some which is interesting at 560mm :D

I think they'd advertised that the Vulcan was Saturday only. A shame though, as it draws the crowds in and everyone loves seeing it, and hearing it too (does anyone else think that it sounds like a Star Wars Tie Fighter here?!)

I must admit, this airshow is testing my patience. I don't catch it every year, but the last couple of times I have the weather has been poor. During that time, the variety of displays has been slowly paired back and back. I can certainly still try and get some better shots than previous years, but the displays, when they happen, are just the same as previous years now.

Yeah the Vulcan is cool despite the fact it doesn't really do much other than look/sound cool through sheer size and loudness. The Vulcan had to cancel the one day it had booked last year due to a fuel leak and this year the Canadian Lancaster bomber had to cancel due to a failed engine so there's an element of bad luck going on here!

I did read somewhere that a couple of the main organisers who had been in charge for years stopped doing it a few years ago so I guess it's been a learning experience for a few people there! I've only been for this year's and last year's shows and there were definitely quite a few repeat visitors. It would be nice to have a little more variety next year.

As for the weather, there isn't much you can do about that :(

I definitely got a few keepers so once I'm done sorting and processing then I'll be uploading but I've spotted a couple of awesome shots already :D

Not posted in here for an age & been incredibly lax with getting out with the camera. Have a private collection of WW2 stuff including a pair of P-51's down the road so got out to them recently along with another local Heritage day & Clacton airshow to catch the Vulcan & Lancaster duo.

And Clacton, picked the right day for it although it did cloud over a bit later on in the day. Stayed sunny while the Vulcan & Lancasters displayed which was all I cared about!

Well here's the first shots from Shoreham! When you're up on the hill, you definitely have to pick your shots since most of the time the planes are too far to get anything decent but occasionally they pop by close enough.

This was the Strikemaster lifting off for the last display on Sunday and he stayed low after taking off which made for a nice flyby :)

Anyway, here's a few more shots. The first is a bit more normal and the other two weren't really intentional but I kinda like the way they've turned out in a silhouetted shot way. I was taking some longer exposure shots of prop planes to see what I could do and had it on TV mode so as the plane got rather close to the sun, the aperture narrowed as much as it could. This left all the dust and flies etc visible along with whatever was on my sensor and lens hehe. I've tried to clone out the worst but you can tell the difference between the sky stuff and the lens/sensor stuff by the blur.

Again I had to drop the exposure down but other than that I've just dropped the black all the way down and only boosted colours a little to get these weird shots.

More 'normal' shots to come later :D

More planes and more processing shenanigans! Both the same plane and the shots were probably taken within the same few seconds. I got rather excited when I saw it come right at me at a closer distance than I'd seen the previous day and when I saw the heat haze I knew it would make a good shot!

Love this lens :D

Planes Planes Planes!

I think I'm slightly addicted to orange silhouetted planes in the sky :|

One of the longer exposure shots that turned out nice :) Not perfect but not bad either for 1/90 on my first time on this new gimbal head :D

Well I guess it had to be expected! More planes

20 - The sky/background was just white anyway so I decided to throw the sliders around and I liked the way the prop blur looked like this

23 - 1/90 and it's sharp enough to see the tread pattern on the tyres :)

Please do not stop!

I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to acquire myself a new body next year, partly just because and also because my D5000 doesn't really like having the ISO upped. Still, loving the getting shot of my kit 55-200 VR & replacing it with a Tamron 70-300 VC. Had to visit the local airfield for their air day to get my monies worth..
