The contrasting difference between the girls getting ready vs the guys is usually huge. One party spends most of the morning hurrying around applying makeup, getting things in order and making sure the guys are getting ready whilst at the same time the other party is having a great laugh with beers and lightly wondering what the girls are up to :p

So I did my first wedding yesterday... seriously tough work, although that may be because I slotted it in between covering LFW as well. The Fuji X-Pro 1 kept up pretty nicely too, although the battery life is still pretty bad compared to a DSLR. Here are a few shots that stood out for me:

I don't know why but these style of grey-ish blacks, well, not grey but they aren't inky either. It's really nice.

Most people Ive seen either crush them or cause them to look cloudy. Yet yours looks like something from the lines of movie post production.

Love this. Feels like one of those tv ad shots.

Don't know what it is but something fascinates me about this shot.

^Looking forward to a boaty wedding on Friday myself :D

GTRacer I like those BW ones the most, how many shots do you get from your Fuji per charge btw? I'm interested because a camera like that with a 35mm lens would be perfect for me as a walkabout backup camera in the future to keep around the neck with the 5D is in the backpack and I don't want to faff around getting it out.

Many thanks :)

I first saw them posted by a few photographers I follow on Facebook, reminded me of the look you usually see from the likes of Emily Soto (her more recent work hasn't really been to my tastes though sadly). I tried to get my own custom presets to a similar style but with something a bit more unique (I prefer less crush and a more cinematic/classic 70s/80s 35mm/slide look but could only get close to how I wanted it exactly.

Looked around for a while until I came across VSCO via a friend so bought their range and played around with almost all the retro film/slide presets they have produced. I found a few that produced results close to what I like then updated those and re-saved them as my own custom presets. Now I just apply them and balance the exposure and/or highlight to match per scene and it ends up exactly how I've wanted my work to look for ages.

I haven't used this process on all shoots yet though so it will be interesting to see how it works out over all seasons. If I'm happy then I don't think I will change this look when processing in colour and it seems to be going down really well with the feedback from clients.

Thanks, I guess it's a bit surreal that a bride is simply walking around King's Cross in her gown as if it's nothing!

Thanks dude, I'm not happy with the colour ones myself, need to tweak the colours a bit more. I filled a 16GB card on one battery (so about 600 shots), but I was mainly in OVF mode and only used the EVF when I was unsure about the degree of parallax I was getting or if I had to get a lower angle. Fuji are going to be releasing a 23/1.4 and 56/1.2 soon so I'm pretty happy with the system as a whole, especially once they get the XP2 out. I actually ended up have a short chat with another wedding photographer on my way out of the venue, he was looking at one for it's lightness since he hated having to bring his D3 around (complete with huge backpack of course).

I love this thread. You guys capture so much context and feeling in your shots, and with such understated creativity. Just love it. I wish I had that sort of eye!

Looks like the eyes were well lit to me. Sometimes a large light/bright room creates a massive but subtle catchlight that covers the entire eye and make the eyes iris look brighter. Of course you can photoshop the effect, but my money is on Rob hasn't.
