Picked up my new car this weekend........955hp V10 Audi RS6! (HP figure updated 08/10/22)

So, good news bad news (i.e. all change) -

Good(ish) - The ceramics seller dropped out which gave me some money to spend.
Bad - My new work contract took a slight pay hit so I've had to compromise on my spec list.

So instead of 900hp in spring I've got my car booked in to MRC in Dec for 800hp and 900hp will have to wait until late summer.

Just to keep me happy though I've fitted the 3in cat-back exhaust now - WOW!!!!! A much deeper sound than the stock with back-box removed, much smoother (less harsh), quieter at idle (good for my neighbours), the gear change "farts" are now all snappy/crackly explosions although, being non-resonated, it's a little droney (my biggest fear) at part throttle (hills etc) so I'll be adding Resonators

Now I've done it I wish it had been the very first thing I'd done now, it's that good. Fitting was a bit of a pain (needed to go back twice for very minor tweaks -still needs a final tweak) but it's a much better sound than messing around modifying the stock one.

To be fair the modded stock did sound better at idle-1500rpm (5-10mph) as the harsher sound was more noticeable buts as my new exhaust is modular, I can easily remove my back-boxes again by un-doing 1 clamp on each box but I can imagine that being stupidly loud.

Can't beat the effect a nice sounding exhaust has on a car, even if it gives zero performance gain, the noise makes you feel like you gained 100BHP.

It is why I've got an exhaust already on the plane on its way form USA for the Stang, will be fitted pretty much as soon as I get the car. :D

I've 1 litre, 2 cylinders and (at stock power) 30hp more than the newer model, which I think is the first time that a newer model's engine has been "lesser" than the previous model for Audi.

Unless something changes I don't think we'll ever see big V10 N/A-Turbo powered "normal" cars again, I'm surprised that V8's are still sticking around what with emissions being king nowadays.

Mercedes are still rocking proper V12 engines in their latest W222 S-Class, R231 SL-Class etc. Bentley have also continued the W12 configuration CGT

I'm not sure large engines are going anywhere for the time being :)

Has there ever been a 'normal' car with a V10? Lets say the likes of RS Audis and M BMWs don't count as they are very low volume compared to the regular series production models.

How is a w222 s-class any different to a Bentley continental, have you seen the price of the v12 models? :p

Because Bentley don't make 3L diesel cars and then squeeze a V12 in it :D

That is the point I seem to failing to get across when I say "normal" cars. It's not about cost, it's about taking a mass produced pre existing "normal" car (for MB I did say E Class) and then adding a big engine into it to make an RS/M/AMG etc rather than designing and building the car uniquely for the engine i.e. Bentley/Lambo/Ferrari etc.

Does that make any sense?

730bhp is a hoot in a six axle HGV, believe me, I can't begin to imagine what the op's car feels like!

Don't like like most Audis, this is most certainly an exceptional one to like.

I think the most normal cars with v10s were the S6, Toureg and Phaeton from around 2005ish (although the latter two were diesel).

didn't Idris Elba only get to 167 or something like in his ? he was trying to hit 200+ has to use a bentley in the end.

or was that different model?

It was the older C5 (4.2L V8 450hp) that Edris destroyed because he wouldn't listen. It's currently up for sale on eBay at £15k when it's now worth less than £7k (wrecked interior, wrecked gearbox, wrecked engine etc).

He'd have struggled to hit 200mph anyway, my older C5 was mapped to 500hp and it would just about make 195mph (GPS) but it needed a loooooong bit of road as 4th gear was so long.

However, I can say that my C6 will comfortably crack 200mph and, on a long enough stretch, will hit it's limited top speed of 217mph.
